Aaron, Thx so much for your valuable info over the years. Can you please answer a question: if your WPE was zero can they still do clawbacks against you, as Im getting threatening letters from NY law firm?
The original document a few months ago where some people’s WPE was zero was a mistake. It meant you accepted the custody settlement but stretto screwed up. If your true WPE is zero, then email celsiuslitigationadmin@m3-partners.com

I was planning on processing the ponzi tax losses when I file next year for 2024 since we didn't get distributions until well into 2024? Is there any reason I shouldn't wait until the end of the 2024 tax season to file?

Good evening. I received distribution in BTC and ETH on my Coinbase account, but the amount is much lower than the amount on my Celsius account. Tell me why the amount is different and whether there will be other rounds of funding?
People are getting like 20-30% of what it shows in their Celsius account.

Good question. I’d say over $10k is probably worth it. Depending on how complicated your taxes are, how many years they have to reconcile to get up to date, it could take maybe 3-5 hours (just my guess).

Automatic if your claim was over I think $9,333. I don’t know if they’ve sent people the rest of the crypto yet. My guess is that’s happening in waves.

Hi Aaron, thank you so much for the update. I am from Australia. I created a Coinbase account with the same personal information as the one in Celsius. However, I kept getting emails saying that my account information can’t match up with the one in Celsius. So I haven’t received anything yet. Would they post a cheque to my Australia address at the end? Many thanks again.
I'm afraid this is only for creditors outside the convenience class, isn't it?
Lots of CC creditors didn’t get their payments too, so this would apply to them.
Is it bad I didn’t deduct losses in this years tax filings? I assumed next year (2025) would be the first year, as the loss wasn’t realized until spring of 2024.
Laura said that those taking capital losses will do them next year (2024 taxes). Those who have a specific situation where it makes more sense to take the Ponzi loss have to do it this year, since it’s the year after Mashinsky was indicted.

@@abennett I already received 2 separate distributions. First one was was in ETH with the stock, the second was in ETH and BTC, but based on the cascade distribution excel, that is from what I had in earn. I'm still missing what I had in as collateral for my own loan.

I was originally assigned to the Celsius Convenience Class but became eligible for the automatic transfer over to the Earn Class because my claim amount above $9333. I just received new claim codes in the last few days for the identical amount that I was due according to the Convenience Class. I was expecting the full amount based on the new Earn class.
Questions:
1. Is this what others in my situation are experiencing?
2. Should I exercise these new claim codes expecting to get additional codes in the future or wait?

Hey. So most people will take capital losses next year. Some fall into a category that may benefit from Ponzi losses which have to be taken this year.
My tax interviews with Laura go over it. But you can still take write offs next year.
ok AAron, i am still wondering why Celcius refund us back only 52% ? They promised 100% if BTC target to 57K $ but we had the strict minimum ?? that was a real robbery !! after being refunded by coinbase is that all we can expect ?? my first btc as well was bought in 2015 less than 100$ !!
You’ll get back more over the next few years but maybe 15% more.

Yes! For Ponzi, it has to be done this year. But for capital, you can claim those losses next year.

Hi Aaron. Sorry for disturbing you. I'm one of the Celsius Victim. I had been receiving email from Celsius saying that they try to wire transfer the fund to me but fail. Did anyone from your group facing this? This is the 2nd time fail for me. using 2 different bank. But both my bank mention they never receive any wire transfer notification at all.

Because many received a payout from Celcius this year, they can take their tax deductions for next year.
Correct. Most will take deductions next year. Some should do it this year if doing the Ponzi deduction makes the most sense for their financial situation though.
My taxes were so complicated with Celsius bankruptcy, and owning a big, small business, my corporate CPA was unable to help me. So I'm o the wait list for Crypto Tax Girl, who is pro with crypto taxes and the bankruptcy. She said late summer as the wait list for her is so long.
