  • Pursuing a music career and going after your dreams isn't for everyone. The roller coaster of emotions that we can experience as we're trying to grow a fan base can be a little overwhelming on occasion and down right depressing at times. Learning how to do music full time takes an understanding of how to properly grow and scale your music based brand and business. In this video I talk with my team about how growth actually works and how to deal with the ups and downs of social media.

    Adam actually walks the talk. A year ago I started watching Adam, he had 10k subs and for a long while it was like that, I used to think that educational videos on how to make it into edm can't be a sustainable career, cause how many producers are there?! A year later I stand corrected, this guy has 170k subs and I feel like he can hit a million subs that too in another year! This just shows how important it is to have a regular posting schedule. I'm inspired.

    Currently taking a 2 week break after facing some burn out after going hard for 6 months! I have been really pleased with my progress, releasing a couple of singles and working on my marketing, increasing my followers etc. But after my last release, I started suffering headaches, irritability, and mental health started to decline. I couldnt create, the pressure was killing me. You need to take breaks. You need to have a balance to keep your creative cup full. Without it you'll burn out. It's a marathon, not a sprint. Look after yourselves :)

    Check this out. I, as a creator, once allowed myself to be concerned about what others thought or how they responded to the work that I did. I believe I became THE ARTIST when peoples opinions and responses became immaterial to my authenticity. I realized that if it was validation I was seeking, my creative run would be short. The world is full of fickle followers of trends. I separated myself and just made art and gave it away. I still do. And that's the difference between a person with talent as opposed to a creative person. Artist's always work regardless of who's watching. Talent is often abandoned if it doesn't pay a certain return after investing in it. There are a billion great song's that will never ever be heard and that won't stop the artist's who make those great song's. This is my opinion...

    I create music, first and foremost, for myself; it has always been my "therapy"...my way of communicating _me_ to the rest of the world. Beyond that, while I've dreamed of everything from being a rich and famous musician to merely paying my bills with music, I've also always had a "real job"...which admittedly makes "breaking into" the Music Industry harder, due to time constraints. All that being said, I think Danny nailed my perspective. It's certainly nice to see big numbers in the Like and/or Subscribe column, and it's easy to grow frustrated...or simply jealous...when other people's (maybe not as good) content is outperforming our own; HOWEVER, as long as my Like and/or Subscribe numbers are above _zero,_ I'm reaching somebody.
    My job will allow me to retire...with full pension...at age 55; for a Blues musician, that's barely adolescence! As long as I keep the fire lit...even if only on a low simmer...then, when I'm finally ready to make a move, the space will already be warm. Obviously this isn't the best approach for a career in music, but it works for my purposes...at least, for now. Of course, if the "right" person happens to stumble upon my music and show interest, I'll certainly follow that to it's best possible conclusion, but if I never "make it" as a musician, I'll know I'm in the company of countless other great musicians who _also_ didn't make it...for any number of reasons. This may seem like a bit of a defeatist attitude, but I'm a, "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, and be thankful for _anything_ good," kind of guy.

    Great video as always but please don't do this driving videos too frequently, we would like to have Adam Ivy for many many years more! Be careful man!! Okay, now seriously, its good advice. I have this brand that is just starting and I'm building a very small following, but there's a following that wasn't there before, so I'm happy with that. Some days people engage a lot, as you say: there's 50 people there in a good day, then there are just 20. And I'm learning not to worry too much about that and just keep working, wich is the main thing. In my country there's an old saying that goes "no todos los días son domingo" ("not everyday is a Sunday") wich means you just can't expect to win everytime. You have to just live with that if you don't want to give up three days after starting.

    I try to have a similar mindset about our TH-cam channel. I don’t think it makes sense to stress over daily numbers, so much as daily or weekly. I also don’t care about the metrics I can’t control, instead I look at watch time. I can make longer videos, better videos and more videos; to increase watch time. Not much I can do to increase likes

  • @zavain
    @zavain 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree with what you said and its is something that everyone in the business needs to hear. Its not the short term goals that matter its the long term affect you want. Looking back on my career when I was younger just getting started I looked at what was happening at the moment and never looked at what I had done. As far as looking forward never did it, but when I was 23 someone said, "look at your shows and the people in them. Yes you have the people coming, but always remember that there may be a show you do that only 1 to 5 people show up at. When that happens give the same show as if there were 1,000 people watching. Because its not the 1,000s of fans that can destroy your career it is one. I thought about what he said and its true. If you give a good show to 1,000 and the next show you have 1 person and you don't give them the same show you just lost a fan. do that enough times and you start to loss it all. Fans are the reason we are able to go out and do what we do." I hate it when I see singer go off on fans because they are destroying their career. Now I am not saying that I have never nor that I wont do that in the future because there are times when you need to stand for what is right, but to do it because you are having a bad day that is not a good thing to do.

    I always tell myself "memento mori" whenever something good or bad happens, which translates to "remember that I will die". It's not to be morbid or anything..it just helps me remain balanced. When things are't going so great, it reminds me to not be so hard on myself. When great things happen, it pulls me back down to earth so I can keep a level head. Great video Adam!

    I have always kept my chin up because I am totally prepared to fail, everything I release is designed to withstand the ages and the test of time. It is important to remember that nothing matters anyway because we are all going to die and that fame is just an illusion to give us a false sense of purpose. Would I feel happy with money and fame? No!!!! I would be miserable probably more than I am now because my misery is public knowledge. Maybe rather than seeing yourself as not good enough, maybe you should consider yourself lucky to be free to do what you want without expectations preventing you from experimenting or just having fun with life. Just loosen up would you??? I think I would be happiest if I could change the hearts of people with my music and open their eyes to an aspect of life they might have not seen before. You can also do this just as well with a youtube comment. Everything we do only matters for the experience we have in life and past that it no longer matters. Just have some fucking fun before you die and stop being so bogged down by these assholes.

    Sometimes it is very frustrating, but you have to be confident and especially patient. I am easily disencouraged if some content I really believe in, gets less impressions than some other stuff I care less about. So I came to the conclusion that it does not matter at all, you can not always do the perfect thing for everyone, so just keep on and DONT GIVE UP, always when you are staying true to yourself, you are gaining more and more REAL FANS and REAL FOLLOWERS who believe in you and your vision and not some fake people, and then you will get the authentic reward you wish.
