a few reasons I can see why this is happening:
1) roblox recommendation system is really geared towards the games that have alot of gamepasses, there is even a catagory for games with subscriptions.
2) the developers trying to keep up with the new weekly updates has been either, the best or worst choice they have made, as they have had to hire a lot of new devs to keep up with the constant updates.
3) new player grinding can be overwhelming at times, so below/paradoxium might add options for newer players to skip the grinding, personally I don't like giving new players a way to skip the grind, but it is a possibility as many towers are locked behind hours of gameplay, and a payed alternative can be bought alot if priced right
They should stop doing the weekly updates. The real reason why we were mad of the slow updates back then is because they mostly take 8 months to even a year to add. But all of them are usually not worth the wait because it's mostly just 1 singular mode with a new tower. While that's cool and all. But is it really worth waiting 8 months for that?

I hate that tds ended up like this but it’s not TDS’s fault since the roblox pay system is pretty bad and they have a big developer studio to pay so there really is no other option.
Yea back then only like 4-5 people with a few scripters, a modeller, a builder, a animatior, and a composer but now they have alot of people in the team so yea.
I agree with most of what was said, but this is a good point, roblox only puts the games that make the most money for them on the home page.
Which is why turning a roblox game into a business is generally a bad idea, even with the free servers. To get any profit, you have to sell out. If you want to make money off a game, using Unity and Steam would be far better. Roblox Games should strictly be hobby-based.
It's hard to earn enough money for living, if you are a Roblox game developer. In order to get money, you would like, your game must be Pet Simulator 99 and you must be Preston.
Let's say you were paid 100 robux. Roblox will take away some of this amount and then the rest of your robux are getting converted into real life money. Because Roblox's formula of converting robux sucks, you will barely get any money.
They made the ui so good that they cant pay for it
Like a year ago TDSs cartoony style was good and not overdone but now its just icky, I knew something weird was gonna happen when they made the windows in the military base rework
also the outline for the tds thumbnails look low quality asf and they just copy and paste, look at the solar eclipse event thumbnail (one where umbra and penumbras are in the center and there’s a bunch of her enemies) compared to the fallen thumbnail

I think tds has gotten a bit better than it was a year ago. Skin crates are now obtainable for free now. You used to only be able to get one deluxe crate for free a year ago so it’s progress
The TDS situation is crazy.
ngl the monetization for the game is really not that bad, its just cosmetics and other perks that arent necessary at all like vip or the spin wheel. you dont have to pay money to progress neither, since its relatively easy to just grind xp and currency for towers (tho hardcore grinding does take way too long but theyre most likely working to change that anyways so). there are some things that are paywalled that shouldnt (most notably being able to pick a specific map which is genuinely stupid that its exclusive to vip members or private servers, even fucking tb has that for free LMAOOO) but other than that the monetization is generally fine especially considering that there are now A LOT of devs to be paid. the real issue with the game is the gameplay, content, and presentation that all need huge improvement

tbh vip perks like picking maps or autksip are understandable because spending 350 robux for some premium crates and exp boost is just not worth and tempting.

Not only is it a cash grab, but I feel that it's lost a lot of it's charm. Surely I'm not the only person that has noticed, throughout the years, the style of TDS has changed. It's way more simplified. At least, that's how I feel about the zombies. I haven't played in quite a bit, because the game is getting stale, so I would know nothing about the towers.
the simple style is better on a non-realistic TD game. hell, I think cartoon style is exceptionally good on TD games specifically. if you slap it on some games, it just won't work
The design choice of the game has definitely shifted to attract a younger audience than it once was. It just looks like you're fighting against toys and figurines. The enemy designs went from interesting and detailed to one note simplified toys made of cheap plastic.

@@iRoosterr as much as I hate to say this, but a company still needs funds regardless of how rich they are. The devs cannot just get money from their own pockets, otherwise they'd leave Paradoxum (unless if they're passionate devs), but to be honest... To put my input here, updates should be bi-weekly or monthly, so that it takes less work and less funds... I mean I can certainly wait for updates, though I'm not sure if kids could do the same.

There is a difference between making a monetized game and making a game that is incredibly pay to win, such as being able to skip entire season passes, skip missions, skip grinding, go on a gambling wheel, and literally pay to revive yourself in the middle of a match.

I never really noticed because I’ve grinded over the years… this is tragic to see my fav Roblox game turn into this. TDS has always (for the most part) listened to community ideas, I really hope they pull through and don’t make some cheap ass event for Halloween or smth. They gotta pull quality content like 2021 Solar eclipse, Area 51, SFOTH, Frost invasion, mega servers, or even Lunar Overture, which in my opinion were all f2p friendly and fun. It’s really hard to balance p2p and f2p but it’s not impossible. At some point they did it perfectly in my opinion during 2022
Just because they need money doesn't mean they don't care about the game anymore.
The last major update was literally about revamping and improving Fallen mode, they still are pumping out quality updates.
If you're worried about the quality of future events, just take a look at past ones.
Krampus' Revenge, The Hunt and The Classic were really good events, the last two being made in less time due to Roblox's deadline.
The game is better than ever right now, they just need money and they gotta earn it somehow.
And you should not compare TDS with pet Sim 99 because pet Sim 99 all those game passes you cannot get without buying it with Robux. The game passes in TDS. You can get originally without game passes so my opinion tds is not a cash grab
exactly to me it’s sound like people are just angry because they had to grind and people who have the money didn’t. and pet sim 99 has no passion whatsoever and is actually a cash grab game.
I will say, at the very start when TDS was compared to PS99, yeah from a "first looks" stand-point, it can be taken as "very similar", but the thing that TDS makes clear if you look at few of the gamepasses, is that it's just a way you bypass the grind. Meaning it's advertising it as "it's possible to get this for free without any irl money spending." That's partially why I never really had the problem of seeing TDS make new gamepasses (like gatling gun). But, I will say some things they're doing aren't too great either. Like the game isn't necessarily "beginner friendly" nor is it "casual" for any real experience. If you want something like gatling gun, it's definitely more incentivized to buy it with robux, as F2P users will take a very long time grinding to level 175 plus an additional 35k coins. In some cases, TDS is fine, but in others, it's just as bad as PS99.
TLDR: The fact that TDS gives a free option for a lot of stuff is nice and all, but it's definitely "encouraging" people to spend a lot of money.
i dont really see a problem with gatling gun being as hard to get as it is because why would it not take a long time to buy what is one of the best and most op towers in the game?

The gatling gun argument is stupid using your logic all the best towers should be free gatling gun NEEDS to be grindy because of how good it is to begin with same with G crates and gem towers your getting what you worked for
Also gatling gun isn't incentivized literally all the level towers are buyable why are you only using gatling gun when you have a bunch of level towers like, pursuit, mortar, crook boss, turret, and merc base that you can actively buy
Also "not beginner friendly" now that is a bad argument when you can easily get crook boss and turret extremely easily like all the game modes are beatable without using gem towers or special towers
Yeah it def never encourages you, they recently buffed mode rewards and monetizations except the spinning wheel which was more of addition than a necessity was hidden away in ui and shop

this is honestly a good point to make but i dont realy see the issue with gamepasses here scince most stuff here is still entirely optional and you could just grind for most of these wich inst even that hard and some of it realy dosent matter like the skin packs, VIP, emotes
what i do have a problem is having the grind for coins and gems be kinda just terrible, hardcore is some of the least fun in TDS and its super outdated and grinding coins just takes too long
the core game itself its still fun to play in my opinion i dont have much to complain besides the grind that sucks especialy for golden towers along with hardcore towers
also to put into perspective here from what ive seen, even buying like a 3000 Robux gamespass is like just handing the whole dev team just 12 bucks (i could be very wrong here and this could be lower) scince roblox steals so much from the devs normaly so i can kinda understand the large amount of monetization given how roblox forces devs to kinda be overly greedy especialy if its a whole team of people
also the thing with thumbnails, i dont like them either but i think it realy is just kinda of a waste of money and time to make an amazing piece of art for something so small as a normal mode rebalance

180$ in EUA, im from Brazil. 180$ × 5 = R$900 reais in Brazil. Brazil's minimum wage is R$1,412 reais per month, that is, we earn R$7,39 reais per hour. Which means in Brazil we earn 1,48$ per hour. To buy all the gamepasses would take us 122 hours. 5 days and 2 hours (with 24 hours per day of work). We work 10 hours per day = 13 days of work. (Not to mention that we only receive the money between the end of the month and the beginning of the next month depending on the profession).
But... most of the gamepasses are simply for towers that can be obtained for free

The first thing I notice after coming back is to the gambling wheel, and then consumable and it makes me question the game afterwards I checkout Mako DJ and it's looking good and then I remembered that Gladiator game pass exists...what a way to make the first impression after months

adding something to the argument that the game lost it's charm, a major part in it is how just overdesigned and wacky most of the enemies look. there's a weird disconnect with the artstyle of the towers and the enemies, with a lot of the enemies having more joints than the regular r6 tower. another issue is that the game forces you into r15 despite every single tower being animated in r6, and the enemies that have more joints usually just have a second r6 arm slapped onto them to make it look longer.
most of the game's designs fall in a weird uncanny valley from trying to both have a military/edgy look, while also trying to appeal to kids with bright colors and whatnot.
Every single time they make a “clickbait” thumbnail, they appear on the daily selection of Roblox games
I understand why some people can say why Tds is slowly becoming a cash grab. The wheel and power ups are bad, same with that starter bundle. Also I had no idea they made you look at what vip does, begging you to buy it. But we still have to realize that at least they are not forcing players to gamble to unlock towers. Not naming any names. Also not even tdx, tb, tbz, and any tower defense game has escaped this hyper montization. the only tower defense game that has not fallen to pay for a ton if stuff are off Roblox. I still say robloxes payment is to blame for some of this. But the wheel, vip, and power ups are slowly ruining the game.
A lot of tds updates feel like they are just there to catch the attention of the playerbase, that already can hold their sttention for extended periods of time. Often times feeling a bit rushed, and sometimes new, for the sake of new.
I think if TDS was completely free without spending a single robux I think it would be a better game

I honestly agree. I've been playing TDS since Area 51, but just last year I started making TDS videos, and I've always loved it. At one point it was just so exciting having new content constantly come out for me to get my hands on, and it was a really fun time. But more recently, I haven't been having as much fun making them. The new content has been really bland, as most of it is just new skins and balance updates. Hell, the latest update was just Slasher going back on sale! In general, I've been playing TDS less, and finding less enjoyment playing it, to the point where I wonder: "Do I REALLY want to be a TDS TH-camr?" It's just not as fun. I'd rather make videos on games I genuinely enjoy, like ULTRAKILL or Pizza Tower or Pressure. Their dev team sure has gotten bigger, but it feels almost exploitative the way they are, releasing plushies and skins out the wazoo so die-hard TDS fans and content creators will buy it and make a quick bag. I really love this game, but I desperately hope that they get their act together soon.
All right warning this comments will spit some facts. TDs is not a cash grab the developers make only 30% on game passes hence why they made a subscription I thought we already covered that. Another thing below literally stated that the new ultimate skin took all hands on deck I don't think it's too much to ask that you have to pay robux. Lastly is TDS was really a cash grab they would do so much like increase the prices to everything make gem towers a premium currency make it just as hard to get gems like it is deluxe crates. The mako update was especially bad because (other than plushies) there were no skins that were completely impossible to get without robux, the deluxe crates still had ways to get a few of them. but then they hype up this new ultimate skin type just to reveal every time you open up your DJ skins you now see a button asking for 10 dollars in robux for a single skin.
Although I do have to disagree with what you said about the game mode reworks, they have added a lot to the game in that the normal game modes feel a lot less monotonous now and added reasons to use more towers in different ways. The game's balancing with towers right now also does feel like its in a decent place (not perfect but better than it has been before)

let's say they all make 100k a year (add extra for the lead devs and below)
that's at LEAST 3 million dollars they have to make every year to maintain the game. Remember, only the top thousand games even make 55k a year, so in order to surpass that by so far... they have to go pretty far into monetization

realistically though the majority of the game devs won't rely on a roblox game for 100% of their income, they most likely have some sort of part time/full time job

Usually I would try to defend TDS but you did make some valid points. Even if they did weekly updates with a decently large development team (good argument btw) they should definitely chill out with the spam of monetization. Although I respectfully disagree with your "content update" opinion. They SHOULD refine the main mechanics of game modes that haven't been changed in 4 years or add stuff they deleted in the past before adding new stuff. I would much rather want them to refine hardcore than them adding 3 towers in one update that will probably be unbalanced.

@@haiphanduy27 Below said there will be a new Void Reaver reskin in late 2024 so MAYBE there might be a rework and if it gets delayed to 2025 so be it. Would much rather get a hardcore rework being the last "refine" update of TDS

I would like to highlight the word: "options" in that sentence
I do think a lot of features that should be public are just paywalled. For example,
1. Choosing the map. This shouldn't be paywalled.
2. Community maps. It's really scummy these maps are paywalled at all, and you have to pay a SUBSCRIPTION.
3. Skins. Why, are deluxe crates, SO DIFFICULT TO GET. I KNOW THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE RARE, BUT THE WEEKLY CHALLENGES SHOULD SERIOUSLY GIVE US MORE DELUXE CRATES. It is SO INFURIATING, that DJ gets a WHOLE ENTIRE REWORK, and I'm still stuck with BASIC & MASQUERADE DJ. WHY CAN'T I JUST LISTEN TO PHOQUS'S MUSIC IN GAME!?! WHY ARE THEY PAYWALLING MUSIC?!?!?
Technically none of them are paywalled, you can just use other people's private servers to choose maps, and all crates have free ways to get
The first two are valid honestly, dexule crates, however, need much more time and money to make, so I believe it's fine since they need to make their money.

I suddenly remembered when I grinded TDS everyday, when it was the Area 51 event, how it was a silly, simple style that I loved. I missed those day where the simple gameplay loop and style, what has it become.
ps: I miss Enforcer, and the old event towers, man was it fun to get Shredder.

Oh man, tds is ruining itself with more updates. It was DONE FOR when they announced weekly updates. Now there are horribly balanced towers (Stares deeply at gatling gun), bugs, and just poor content. I wish they AT LEAST made monthly updates.
Gatling gunner is fine, this is the same tower if which if you transfer its coins to gems, it would cost more then accel, also this thing is meant to be better then engineer itself since it costs more then engineer in robux and it’s lvl 175 requirement also they are probably working on the Halloween event coming up, which is why they are not fixing bugs, I think after that they will start to fix it

@@louie-t2eDude without dank who is an extremely skilled player, I think this would take incredibly long for people to realize that, also it’s solo which gives you more money per wave and they are using really op towers like engi and Gatling, also again Gatling values more then accel, and is a lvl 175 tower, and hardcore is such an old mode that you can use and can’t use the argument I think for example, polluted wastelands 2 is harder to solo, but in multi player hardcore is harder,

You say that you don't like the fact that TDS uses old update. Me Idrc about the cashgrab considering you can grind the game easily. But something that annoys me is the fact that they always have to make an update that they took from an old clip/idea and coincidentally has to look like a feature from another game, like when they changed military base, it looked A LOT from the tower armored factory in TDX, which OFC they didn't copy and it's original, BUT WHY AFTER TDX RELEASES THEIR UPDATE? Like, they didn't copy, but it just lacks of originality and creativity. I would like of them to try to NOT accidently have an update similare to other games (I bet the pursuit update will look near identical or work the same way as the helicopter from tdx considering they just added it)

TDS is nearing what I call the "Final Destination" of any Roblox """experience""". It usually starts out good but as the team behind the game grows the pay demand increases (Roblox takes a ~60% cut from DevEx btw) and, if the player count doesn't grow enough to keep up with the larger dev team, ends up with the game having to churn out as much gambling, overpriced garbage, and flashy stuff as possible. In other words; corporate greed facilitating the spread of more corporate greed. I believe TDS can be redeemed at this stage though, TDS can either move to a better platform(like steam) or go further into the money pit and basically become "Color-Coded TV Static: The TD Game!".

Private servers became pointless because now you can play solo or play with friends through matchmaking, people barely use elevators now so the whole point of buying a private server in tds lost any sense, they could allow people to use spawn commands etc on private servers to at least make it worth it but they already announced such things will be behind a huge paywall in the future
Vip+ is kinda pointless and its not worth it, especially for the price you have to pay (we both live in poland so there are probably more countries where it looks the same or even worse and Vip+ is not a good deal for its price)
I can understand devs putting level towers as gamepasses but why they keep towers like engineer or gatling in the shop? Thats like putting accelerator as gamepass, especially when it comes to engi which is a really good early, mid and late game tower, this basically makes the game more p2w than it was

Tds has gotten so much worse, ever sense I stopped playing around the fallen rework. I don't think I'm going to play the hardcore rework as I feel TDS has lost its charm for me. Tbh, quitting tds is one of the best things to happen to me as I'm learning how to be a software engineer and working on robots. I want to work on my own tower defense game out of roblox, but I need to learn more. Had me for a good three years

I dont think tds would go bankrupt anytime soon lol below bought a sportcar like 3 years ago and tds 3 years ago dont even have this much of a gamepass or microtransaction and they still cook hard. Ex. Frost invasion, solar eclipse cus they take time to do stuff. Ya dont remember last year halloween? That was nightmare of a event they rushed the update, making bad decisions without asking the community EVENTHOUGH they got more money from gamepasses they added. Our point that were mad at rn is the point that tds cares more about money more than making the game less buggy and making it appeal to both new players and old players. I miss when tds were less buggy and have better performance 😢
Yeah, its getting kinda ridiculous with all the paid stuff they are adding. The amount of deluxe skins they are adding this year alone is kinda astonishing, which wouldnt be that bad as you could get most at any time, but then they also introduce (planned) limited time robux crate skins that pretty much introduced fomo into pretty much anyone who wants them, leading to players spending lots of robux because ofc its a chance you will even get that skin (most robux skins that were limited then went permanent from immense backlash). Then you have basically stuff like 4th of july (plural) skins and mako dj, which players believed to be free (4th of july because they arent making multiple skins paid only and mako dj since below said it was gonna be obtainable in a very unique way) and then both came out and they were robux only basically (in mako dj's case it was a huge letdown since we STILL dont have a dj skin that is always available to EVERYONE). Then there is also the case of tds just releasing way too many plushie skins that nobody asked for (for reference, golden minigunner, cowboy, and patient zero plushie skins were released in the time span of 2 MONTHS). Finally, there have been lots of updates that are mainly just for players willing to pay money such as the mako dj update where in that literally NOTHING NEW was added for f2p players.
Like i get you gotta pay your developers and stuff, but shoving monetization THIS HARD into players faces is just baffling imo.

Im more mad about the updates then being a cash grab game. The weekly updates are killing the game with more bugs and just horrible power creep (Gatling gun) like when will they actually focus entirely on one thing. Halloween event and pvp mode. (I love pvp mode)

I don't exactly agree with a few of these points.
The part about gamepasses seems a little silly, but this could just be me.
A majority of the tower gamepasses (turret, mortar, etc) aren't that bad as getting to level 75 isn't exactly the hardest thing to do in TDS, it's probably a lot faster than it used to be considering all the exp changes they did. The only gamepass that is an actual issue is the gatling gun because it's the only way to get FPS mode, yet it's locked behind either level 175 or 2080 robux (currently, don't come later saying "Erm, it's actually X amount of robux now!!!)
Also, the comparison to pet sim 99 is pretty bad since in pet sim 99, those gamepasses provide actual boosts that I assume you can't get normally (i've never played the game) while in TDS, there isn't a single gamepass locked tower unless you count event towers (which is somewhat fair but even then most event towers aren't that good.) The only thing you can't get normally is VIP, which only provides qol things (which should already be in the game) and a 25% boost to exp.
Credits/gems is kind of weak, the only time I think people will ever touch that tab is to buy gems for hardcore towers.
Devs need money, I have no clue how much money tds makes since I'm not a dev, but what I do know is how much robux can be dev x'd for. The (apparent) exchange rate is 105 USD for 30,000 robux.
I might be tweaking or be talking about something completely unrelated to the video.
What's funny about pet sim 99 is that there's eggs that cost about 400 robux and there's a pet that could be below 1% chance
