    My parents were married in Sacred Heart Church in 1965. I don't live in Galveston today . But I have so many childhood memories. My great grandparents settled there in 1902 . My mother and father were born there in the 1940's.
    Galveston will be my favorite home always . This reminded me of sitting on the Strand eating a poboy from the Old Emporium and people watching with my Papa . Good times .

      Yes a lot of people do say that Galveston has sort of a New Orleans or Louisiana vibe. I think it's because of the historic architecture plus the mild subtropical climate and the southern style food. Thanks for watching and please stay tuned for more tours around the world.

    looks like a fun summer spot

    • @ProjectGaiaTravel
      @ProjectGaiaTravel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi SG. Yes we were visiting in the middle of Winter (January), still had some things going on but is generally much more sleepy in the winter. Galveston gets very busy in the summer, particularly on the weekends. So we had the city to ourselves during this visit.

    Wow, my older brother back in the 90s helped paint the sea wall. It’s crazy how overtime the paint is there but fading 😢

      Hey Michael, Yea it is amazing the power of the erosion of the salty air. How great that he got to contribute to Galveston history though!

    I'm amazed you could make a 20 minute video about Galveston without talking about the 1900 hurricane and the grade raising project. Maybe within the context of the seawall (which didn't look very high to me)

      Thanks for watching and the input. Might make a video that dives further into the history of Galveston in the future.

      The video was deceptive, it is about a 15-20 drop from the seawall to the beach. There are stairs that have been built to get to the beach.

    Go in the summer the sidewalks will be packed and the streets will be gridlocked.

    • @ProjectGaiaTravel
      @ProjectGaiaTravel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bacopa68, Yes I was here in January and avoided almost all of the crowds. But summer is more lively, so I guess the best time of the year to visit is all really what you prefer. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!

    Looks like a fascinating city. I love the contrast from beach town to historic village. I am a history and architecture buff so this definitely looks like a destination I'd be interested in. Thanks for the video!

      Hi Jose,
      Yes it is definitely a city of contrasts and is perfect for the history/architecture buff plus beachgoers. The spring and summer are the best times to go.

    remember in the 1967 you could drive your vehicles down on the beach now the ocean is slowly reaching the seawall

    • @ProjectGaiaTravel
      @ProjectGaiaTravel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Felipe, very interesting. I know you can drive your car further down at some of the beaches further south. I had no idea you used to be able to drive on the beach adjacent to Galveston. Thanks for the input!

      my father would drive us in 67 down the various ramps you could park your vehicle set on the beaches miss those days

  • @shawnb4938
    @shawnb4938 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You have to pay to park aling the seawall, via an app.

      Hey Joey Nie. Yea it was pretty quiet when filming because it was a weekday and during the winter. However, during the summer weekends, especially when the cruise ships port, it gets much busier. Thanks for watching!

      😂 went there last year and loved it. Going back this summer. Had a ball on the strand, the beaches, the ferry, dolphins and wildlife. Tons of people and the university of Texas hospitle was first class when my husband got sick. It can be a bit crowded in the summer. 😊
