  • My bike overheated for the first time today and it just shut off. My best guess is that the coolant was spraying everywhere from overheating but im not 100%.... now it runs fine at speed but any time I'm at a light or idling it overheats to over 240 very quickly.. could this be a coolant issue? what is your best guess/ what do you think I should check out first? Thanks so much for any input! Still a rookie at the mechanical end of motorcycles!

    Guys. It’s a cooling system. The more heat the more pressure it gets. If the coolant broke out like that, there is surely something wrong with the coolant flowing system, that the coolant cannot passes through quick enough so it breaks out. Firstly you better check the cooling fan if it works properly, if it doesnt solve, you better check your radiator if its in good condition, take it out and runs water through it (the radiator could get stuck over time), if still doesnt work, check the coolant Valve, try to clean it and make sure its the right valve for you model (dont use car’s valve, its different pressure). Dont give up on your motorcycle, i know its frustrating, ive tried trouble shooting, and now its work.

      @@RHINO777 Check your radiator to see if it needs cleaning, could be clogged up. Also check your fan to make sure it's turning on at the correct temp. Hope that helps!

    changing your coolant to water and water wetter is one of the best things that ive done to my bike. Also take the 30 mins to wire a fan to a switch ( super simple). Probably one of the best things you can do (I have not figured out how im going to do it yet) is to mount a front fan to the radiator to a switch, which will simulate air cooled movement on the radiator.

    I have a Hyosung GD250N , I just bought it second hand and while I was riding it on the second day the coolant was coming out of the overflow and spilled along the bike and on the road. I think this problem may be unique to Hyosung motorcyles. To be on the safe side I have decided to order a brand new radiator assembly.
    Safe riding :)

  • @Jason5267

    It's getting too hot probably because it's running lean, maybe you put a new exhaust on recently? Mine has same issue because there's a hole in the exhaust so it's way more free flowing than it should be. Same thing happened to ninja 250 I had, though no leaks, it would get very hot. Dirty coolant/water boils more easily at lower temperatures than clean water/coolant mix, or pure clean water, that's why changing coolant or water will temporarily fix or alleviate the issue. If your exhaust is too free flowing you need a new fuel map, mine needs the hole patched up

  • @locopyro13
    @locopyro13 11 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Like others have said, it seems like your fan. If the bike runs at normal temps while riding (even when you are getting on the throttle) then that would mean your radiator is working and the coolant is flowing. When you come to an idle or stop at a light, air isn't flowing over the radiator, so there would be a radiator fan that would kick on to force air over the radiator.
    Could be a fuse, switch, or motor that is messing up your fan. Whats the year/make/model?

      Guys, I need help too!!! :/ Sry for bad english...
      I boght my bike in 2018, second hand, its a 2003 FZS 1000. It is overheating, at least, the red light kicks in while its idleing. Sometimes it is 2-5 minutes (from cold start) sometimes its 10. If i'm on full throttle, over 200 and 250km/h, no problem, but in the city at the red light, it starts to overheat. I took part on a motorcycle parade (show) where we rode through the city in 15-30 km/h for at least 30-40 minutes, but I did not have any leak, the overheating light was on. Sometimes I revved the bike to the limiter, nothing happened. As far as I know, I dont have coolant in my engine oil, and no oil in the coolant. I used the bike in the summer, it starts, no leaks, seems works fine. I have changed oil and coolant 2 times, levels are Ok. The bike got new spark plugs, and the carburettor got a new repair kit, at the mechanic (at least the mechanic said he changed it and set it). Valve-gap is measured, its okay, the pump seems it works, I remowed the cap, it pushes the water. Fan is working. I didnt see white smoke from the exhaust yet.
      However...I found out that there is no thermostate in the bike, someone remowed it, I will buy one. The coolant was dirty when I changed it first.
      What the hell can be the cause of this?
      +1 The servo motor (i dont know how to say) of the exup valve is bad, the valve is always fully open, I get the number 7 failure code (exup valve working bad) sometimes, but it happens rarely.
      , but the servo motor is connected. This means the flush from the exhaust is easier now.
      Any ideas???
      Please help!

      @J Zeus I have the same bike GSX-R600K3 and same problem. I have replaced all coolant hoses, radiator, radiator caps. coolant, flushed the engine each time I changed anything. Also have tried three different thermostats. Fan thermo switch was also replaced. Took the head off and had that check and came back as aok. Bought second hand engine and still coolant pushes out overflow bottle, so that fixed nothing. Have now bought another bike so I can pull the gixxer to bits over winter and get everything checked, again.

    Try the water pump or the o ring in the pump itself.. It' s just a minor issue...ride safe

  • @Subaruby34
    @Subaruby34 11 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hey bro, does your exhaust smell sweet? If so you may have a blown head gasket, Also have you replaced your coolant lately? theyre could have been an air pocket in the coolant that burst as it cycled causing the over heat and coolant spray, if you have no check engine light on you wont have bad temp sensors so the best bet is to take the rad cap off fill it then run it for 20 min with the rad cap off and see if it sprays coolant or still over heats,

    Sorry, max character count reached, part 2/2.
    If you don't see any obvious signs of leaking, refill with a jug of 50% distilled water / 50% green coolant that you have premixed. Buy a gallon of distilled and just drink half of it. Makes the perfect container.
