Scott picks up the bass line whenever it’s needed. And he starts out pretty low on the Sound of Silence.
Besides Matt's deliciously velvet voice, this video also features his playful personality. You can see the twinkle in his eye, that beautiful smile, and his wicked fun-loving nature in every frame. Just another example of PTX picking the right person for the job and supporting them while they shine. Great reaction, DTV! Christmas smiles in the middle of July wildfires here in BC, Canada... love it.

I think Matt was born to sing this song. And that background by Mitch and Kirstin just super, Scott`s bass like always great when bass is singing - earlier Avi and Matt now. It is masterpiece.

Like I said, you can't sleep on any of them. Matt is a star, Kevin is outstanding, Scott sounds like bass is his natural range. Mitch's ick and Kirstin's dramatic hand to the forehead makes me laugh every time.
They smashed this one out of the park. Everyone's vocals were superb, but Matt killed it.
Matt gets his first full-song lead...and KNOCKS IT OUT OF THE PARK!! I absolutely LOVE this track! Scott always does the bass when Avi or Matt take the lead. There's a behind the scenes video for this one that's a fun watch.
This was the one that fully converted me to Matt as a bona fide Pentatonix member, enabling me to finally let go of Avi. It showcases how Matt is NOT simply a 'replacement Avi' (as if ANYONE could ever do that!) but brings his own, unique flavour to the group - and that flavour, while it's not the same as Avi, is just as brilliant.

Matt kills it! If you want another Christmas in July, check out their version of 12 days of Christmas. I've seen many reactors that commented they couldn't stand hearing that song anymore but PTX brought it back to life and they love their version, it's sick, def check it out! Pretty please with a cherry 🍒 on top?! Lol

Thank you, was coming here to say this. I lost count of reactors saying that they hate the 12 days of Christmas, until they heard the PTX version. I've lost count of how many songs that I haven't liked, until I heard the PTX version. And it's been said many times, PTX doesn't cover a song, they upgrade it.

The first song I picked up on Scott's bass was Hallelujah. When Avi is singing Scott does a killer job of bass in it. Scott's range is sick! And yes, Matt really shines in this one and every other song he's in.

This version of You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch came out in 2019, too late for the 2018 animated film The Grinch, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, but the movie soundtrack does feature Pentatonix' rendition of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. It's very cleverly integrated into the early part of the film.
You seemed surprise that Scott was singing bass but the truth is that he's always done bass when Avi or Matt sang solo. He's done it on Hallelujah (live where you can see Scott actually doing it) or on their video (where you can't see Scott doing it) and now here or on their video the Sound of Silence. He's got a very wide range. They are all talented to the max. They put aCapella on the map and every cover they do, they enhance them.
I love how much fun Matt had making this video.
I think one of their songs is in The Grinch movie. I think it's God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, which is great too, though I haven't seen the movie, so I'm only going on second hand knowledge.

This is the first time I have thought the performer was able to sound like the original artist, Thurl Ravensctoft (also the original Tony the Tiger). I adore the original and this is only about a half step down from the original. Matt did an amazing job, and all the emotions he portrays.
Want a metal version? Try Small Town Titans' version of Mr. Grinch. It went viral a few years ago and launched this rock group. You've never heard it like this before - killer vocals, sneaky, bluesy ... you won't see it coming!

Christmas time we just put on PTX and let it roll for about 5 hours without repeat, that's the X-mas music they have out lol. Oh Dude!! Try their version of "Oh Come All Ye Faithful"..you'll never see that song the same again!! This was fun!! subbed.
You don't have to call them 'background vocals' if it makes you uncomfortable to say it. Call them "Accompaniment" since that's the role they are playing.
If you're gonna do more PTX, I recommend "My Favorite Things" and "12 Days of Christmas" which both have amazing arrangements.

I, for example, after some time easily accept Matt as the most shiny and bright personality, owner of an exceptional voice, who perfectly matches all other PTX members. From all their songs I would really love to see you react to DANCE OF THE SUGAR PLUM FAIRY (with Avi - their second Grammy)), MAD WORLD, AMAZING GRACE, WHEN THE PARTY'S OVER, SING, LITTLE DRUMMER BOY ... and hundreds more. :))) Cheers!

PTX slayed this. This song, Sound of Silence and New Rules x Are You That Somebody sold me on Matt. Not sure Avi could’ve pulled this off as well as Matt did and I love Avi, but his voice is too pretty for this. My guess is Scott probably would’ve taken the lead. Matt was amazing and I think we haven’t yet heard everything he can do. Looking forward to the holiday season…you haven’t heard Christmas music until PTX covers it.

Oh, if you think this is good, you have GOT to hear the VoicePlay version. I mean, sure, PTX nails the vocals as always, but so does VP, and VP's arrangement is just overwhelmingly better, at least ten times more creative and interesting.
