- The Dead Angle at Kennesaw Mountain was the site of a brutal and futile Union assault during on June 27, 1864. Part of General William T. Sherman’s campaign to break through Confederate defenses, the attack targeted a salient in the Confederate line where defenders had constructed overlapping fields of fire. As Union troops advanced across open ground, they were met with devastating artillery and musket fire, suffering heavy casualties. Despite their determination and repeated attempts to breach the position, the Union forces were pinned down and eventually forced to retreat, leaving the slope littered with their dead and wounded. The failed assault became a tragic symbol of the ferocity of the fighting at Kennesaw Mountain and underscored the high cost of Sherman’s campaign through Georgia. We will explore this action utilizing two first hand accounts.

Brilliant production!
Thank you!!
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Top notch.
Thanks! I appreciate you watching!
Outstanding video. The narration makes you feel like you were actually there!
Great to hear! Thanks for watching as always Mark!
I happened upon the dead angle by accident last year while driving through the beautiful park. I was so moved that I went again and brought some friends.
The breastworks that remain, along with my home state of TN’s artillery platform facing the dense woods is absolutely chilling.
It’s an extremely powerful area. It’s hard to imagine a place so peaceful today was the site of terrible carnage. Thanks for watching.
Excellent video my friend. Really enjoyed the pop up within the maps. Your presentation stood out with the use of the personal stories from men from both sides of the battle at the Dead Angle .
Appreciate the kind words! I enjoy sharing personal stories from those who fought in these battles. It really helps bring these battlefields to life.
Great job, and very informative
Thanks! Appreciate that.
Excellent video production and content. Thanks for your hard work on this. Have been there many times. The 11th TN held the right of the angle beside the 1st/27th TN. My book Forward My Brave Boys about the 11th TN gives additional 1st hand accounts that you might find interesting. Again, excellent presentation.
I’ll check out your book! I’m always looking for more firsthand accounts. I really appreciate you watching and for the kind words.
The modern, actual photos added to the animated map were priceless. I listened to the audiobook of Sam Watkins 2x, company aytch, or side show of the big show. Great piece
I’m happy to hear that. It’s something new I tired. His accounts are very vivid and powerful. Helps provide additional insight. Thanks for watching as always.
I've spent many hours walking along by the trench works there. Sitting on the bench in front of the Illinois monument. Roaming the trails behind the field beyond it. Just imagining what that time must have been like. Wondering what was going through the minds of the men here as they prepared for the battle. So peaceful, now.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. It is a powerful area to reflect on. It’s almost eerily peaceful now when you think about what unfolded there. Thanks for watching.
Excellent video
Appreciate that and thanks for watching.
My ancestor Elihu Clevenger was at Kennesaw Mountain. First Infantry Regiment Union Volunteers of East Tennessee.
Thanks for watching and for sharing your family’s story.
Top-rate production. I was fortunate enough to visit here once. Unfortunately, because of the distance between Illinois and Georgia, I have not returned but I intend to this summer.
@@davidwilhelm3431 thank you. I really appreciate you watching. Hope you get to go back.
My wife’s ancestor was there’ my own ancestors Illinois unit was there on the opposite side. We live a few minutes away from the dead angle. I have been there a few times
