Hidden Waterways featuring Mal Edwards song 'Harry the Tar'

This is Mal Edwards MBE. Shrewsbury born and bred he has spent his whole life living and working on the canal. He was the last lengthsman to work the Newport and Shrewsbury canals in the 1960s. Now retired he writes songs about the 'cut' and the lives of the working boatmen. This is Mal performing a beautiful rendition of his song 'Harry the Tar' from his album ‘The Cut’
Hidden Waterways is a project focusing on uncovering people’s memories and community history linked to the Shrewsbury & Newport canal and using creativity to share their stories. Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and in partnership with ArtShack, Virtual Shropshire, Shrewsbury & Newport Canals Trust and Friends of the Flaxmill Maltings.
