  • Hey Guys!
    If you have seen my earlier Craft With Me videos, you have probably seen my Project Journal. This is something I made so I can keep track of all my projects….keeping samples and notes of each. I love doing this and adding new projects as I go. Some of you have requested a video of how I make mine. I am by no means a professional, but I want to share how I make mine from start to finish. Of course you add your own touch of decor and embellishments. I do show a small preview of how I add new projects to mine. I hope you enjoy and I hope this helps.
    Thanks so much for watching!

    Very good tutorial. I like to use an old phone book opened up to stab through my pages. I asked my son if he had an old phone book, he gave me a funny look and said, " do they still make those?" LOL, I guess I need to get mine out of storage if I want to make a journal.

      Hi Leslie! That’s so funny, I mentioned the phone book to my eldest daughter and she asked, “What’s a phone book?” LOL!! I wish I would’ve saved my phone books those would’ve been great to use the yellow pages as ephemera! You’re lucky you still have them!

    Looks great. I don’t mind binding. I made myself a book cradle and that helps a lot when piercing holes.

    Maggie...oh my goodness!! So much in such a short video (well average I guess, lol). First of all..that needle!!! Good gravy girl. You could sew yourself to the book, lol. Binding is my favorite part, just not on camera.
    Next, project journal, i have never heard of them. Donyou think of yours as an idea book?
    Thanks for sharing your creativity.

      Hi Lori, I like my huge needle. It gives me a better grip. I'm still getting used to the binding part.
      I use mine as a project journal, because I like to refer back to things I've already made and note all the dimensions for future reference. An idea book would be things you're thinking about making, mine is things I've already made on my channel. Thanks for watching Lori.

    Hi Maggie, I do my signatures the same way but my only tip for you I learned from Gayle Agostinelli how ever lg. Or small your book size is you use 3 times the length of your book is what your lenth of twine is and it works for me then im not wasting any of my thread. I use wax thread. Love it tho. I have the same paper. I simply love all your videos. Thanks for sharing. Would love to know what you look like.

    • @SunsetCrafts
      @SunsetCrafts  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Isabel, I've seen that trick before but for some reason it never works for me. So weird right? I also have wax thread that I use now too. Works great. Thanks for watching! I'm thinking about doing a Q&A maybe when I hit 20K subscribers. Thought that might be fun. :)

    Hi Maggie, I saw your video a while back where the project book made its entrance and was then excited to see this video however, I was hoping it would include setting up the background pages (decoration) upon which you then stick your sample projects onto. I'm more of a visual person and have scoured through hundreds of videos trying to find similar techniques/style but the rest of the world seems to be madly in love with color while I lean more towards grunge and neutrals. Seeing all that color or overly floral styles give me a mental block.
    Perhaps when you're due for your next project book you can show how you decorate the pages as well because from the small peek off the other video it seems your pages are already pre set up and you just select a page to add your project to. And if it's a la Tim Holtz style or supplies, that would be awesome because who doesn't love Tim Holtz! 😁

    • @SunsetCrafts
      @SunsetCrafts  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi H L, I’m so glad you enjoyed the making of my style of the project journal. To be honest, I actually don’t decorate the pages until I’m ready to add a new project to it. I like to decorate the layout to match the style of craft that’s going in. So all the pages are blank until then. I am thinking about making a new series on my channel making a hardcover journal from start to finish. Hopefully that will give you ideas on how to decorate your journal.
      Thank you so much for the suggestion. I appreciate you watching

    If you love everything in your journal, you may want to consider making a cover with a spine and a misprint binding?

    • @SunsetCrafts
      @SunsetCrafts  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Suzie, I actually haven’t used it in quite a while. If it does eventually get too big I will consider making a bigger cover for it. Thanks for watching

    The tool is called a rotary cutter. I use it to cut fabric to make quilts.
    Safety First: Always cut fabric/paper away from you--do not cut towards your body-Never cut back and forth as the blade could jump and cut your finger.😮❤😮

    • @SunsetCrafts

      Hi Katiejo, Yes I remembered what the tool was called, but for some reason my mind goes blank when recording. Lol. I appreciate the tip though.

    I really do want to know where you got that needle! I’ve ordered a few that describe themselves as ‘large eyed’, but they definitely were not!!

    Thank you for sharing your beautiful projects! I’m a new subscriber and really enjoying your content. Came here to mention use of rotary blade but see that others addressed it. I have seen several of your videos and noticed you don’t use a rotary blade paper cutter. I prefer it over a v-blade because it cuts clean edges and more pieces of paper. I love your project notebook. If you create others in the future, maybe score a wider spine to accommodate future page thickness and minimize the “crocodile mouth”.

    • @SunsetCrafts
      @SunsetCrafts  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the tips Rebeca. I’ll have to look into the rotary blade paper cutter. Any suggestions on which brand?

    • @rebecarod1475
      @rebecarod1475 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SunsetCrafts I have a few trimmers for different uses but I love my Carl 18” rotary (RT-218). It accommodates larger sheets of paper and has several specialty blades. For straight cuts I normally use the Carl 218N.

      Hi Brenda! You can definitely use this as a junk journal. Then others I make are practically the same thing just with a fancy cover. I’ve been debating whether to make a full junk journal on my channel but it would have to be in parts since it’s a process. Thanks for watching Brenda.

      @@SunsetCrafts thank you for always responding! I really do appreciate it! I’m watching a lot of the videos I haven’t watched before since I’m newish to your page. I’m always a little nervous to start a new craft project but once I get going I’m fine! Lol

      @brendafreeman522 No worries! I love hearing from everyone. I like having that open connection. I appreciate your support by watching my channel. It really means a lot. I think the beginnings of a project for anyone is a little nerve wrecking. That’s why I try to use my less favorite paper first to make samples before I use the good stuff. I don’t want it to go to waste. 😂

    Ok, not to complain or be negative, but I holding my breath from the time you started to use the rotary cutter until I couldn't watch anymore, I was sure you were going to cut yourself. Those are extremely sharp. Please when you are finished using it, slide the blade protector back.
