John Heald DEFINITELY was not listening. Glad I NEVER sail Carnival. And, Yes, the cruise lines should absolutely alert anyone wanting to reserve a quad, that it's available only for groups of 4. That was shady what they did. I hope those folks got a refund. If the Voyager of The Seas, was in a U.S. port, and attempted to board, or leave without running water, the port authorities should deny it. Do they even have to ensure they are seaworthy, before they leave a port?? I would hope so, Jason.
I liked and subscribed, so I am onboard, let's go! As per losing the corner cabin because they wanted to sell it to 4 passengers is bad form. Celebrity as an example will not even sell it to you if you are only 2 people. Don't dangle the carrot and then pull it away. Me, I would have cancelled and never go back to them. Too many lines out there want my business and I will give it to them instead. That's just me.
I would be livid if my cabin was given away with fine print they should and could have warned me about. Terrible customer service, a deal breaker for me.
On-board announcements… I think Celebrity and P&O have it about right. You hear from the Bridge at noon and the captain might provide an update later, whilst you hear from the cruise director a couple of times a day. I do also appreciate the wildlife announcements, so to speak. Celebrity Silhouette alerted passengers to a pod of whales being insight of the ship whereas Britannia did the same with dolphins. Have a great trip in Alaska BTW!
Have a fantastic time on your Alaskan cruise! I absolutely wouldn't want to be on a ship without running water, just a health hazard. Holland America should have absolutely let the customer or PVP know of the change, or as you said just don't allow only 2 people to reserve that stateroom.
Now I’ve never sailed with them myself and call me naive, but I didn’t expect such an underhanded move by Holland America. And they didn’t even have the common decency to notify the passengers of the change, so that’s another customer service failing. If the multigenerational group had been split up on the ship as a result they may have chosen not to continue with the cruise at all. It shouldn’t be too much to ask for companies to be open about these policies. If the cabin/balcony is a little bigger than simply adjust the price accordingly., Don’t pull the rug from under people.
Not having running water on a ship is ridiculous! If you have no running water in an office building, you're sending people home! That sounds like to me a bait and switch! I agree with you, Jayson, don't sell to 2 people! Make it make sense!
Constant announcements are totally annoying and completely unnecessary! As you stated, everyone has the app on their phone. Plus, most cruise lines still have some type of daily agenda delivered to each cabin. I feel it’s the passengers’ personal responsibility to research daily activities; they aren’t first graders. Just my opinion.
Hi Jayson. 1-3 announcements a day is plenty unless an emergency comes up. It DOES get annoying every hour and I certainly don’t need them in my cabin, again, unless an emergency. The water thing not an issue but they should have made an announcement about THAT! 😅🎉
No Running and NO COMUTATION ?!! Pretty much Unreal ... We dd take a Cabin Upgrade once on HAL and it was nice BUT out on the Balcony was a BIG LIFE BOAT .... No upgrades for Us again ...Sometimes They do get a LITTLE TALKIE ... And Cruise ON !!!
No announcements for me unless it’s an emergency, other than you already have the schedule of everything that is happening in your phone app or the paper schedule they leave in the stateroom.
We had heavy sewer gas in our cabin on the MSC Mervaglia, in yacht club no less....Something about emptying out the system caused it...I wonder what the health consequences of breathing sewer gas in a confined area are??! They probably had water shut off while refilling the tanks, but yeah, they should have held off on boarding.
Announcements regarding changes in destination, bad weather, mechanical issue affecting ship's normal operation should be announced in-cabin...when in cabin, we always open the door to hear what usually is an unecessary announcement.
I don’t like all the announcements either. It’s annoying. Push notifications are plenty sufficient. Perhaps a morning announcement from the cruise director with highlights of the day’s activities and then a goodnight salutation from the captain at the end of the evening would be great. I can’t believe Royal let the passengers board with no running water. There should be a fine for a health and safety violation. And lastly the cabin switch thing would be infuriating! I agree that when booking, they shouldn’t sell a quad cabin to a party of 2 if that’s their policy. Maybe open those cabins up to any party size a week before if not sold.
If I have a speaker in my bedroom giving out useless announcements, I'm clipping a speaker wire. Based on how often their shops break they'll never know it was me.
Announcements: Yes and No. Does the app work without Internet. Most folks don't pay for the WiFi. So announcements are necessary. But I'd hate to be woken up by in cabin announcements unless it's about arrival departure.
Don't you have any laws for customer protection? Burying something important like this (cabin taken away) in the term and conditions would be deemed "surprising" and therefore illegal in the EU. I mean, a cruise line could try, but it would not hold up in court.
Ships are designed to be booked to maximum occupancy. Obviously I’m not going to expect to book 2 people in a cabin for 4 and then expect the cruise line to turn away more business.
9 Big Tipping Mistakes NOT to Make on a Cruise. -----> th-cam.com/video/GGLJuvnJpCQ/w-d-xo.html
I would want any emergency announcements piped into the cabin
Would not have allowed passengers on board until water was restored! health and safety concerns!

No running water... cruise does not allow passengers in until...public health...

They should have given them their money back after changing their cabins. To me that is a crime.
No. It’s not a crime.
I love hearing the announcements. I'm not checking my app all the time. Not in the cabin
Have a fantastic time on your Alaskan cruise!

Likewise, I cannot believe that a solid cruise line like Holland America could do this.
We're going on our first cruise next Monday on the Celebrity Reflection. Channels like yours have been SO helpful in getting us prepped. Thanks!
Same
I don't see how you can legally let people on a ship with no running water.
maritime laws are a lot different
It is illegal to operate a restaurant without running water, it should be illegal to allow passengers on a ship!
Not having running water on a ship is ridiculous! If you have no running water in an office building, you're sending people home!
That sounds like to me a bait and switch! I agree with you, Jayson, don't sell to 2 people! Make it make sense!
No announcements in the cabin…reminds me of the ‘old flashing light specials’ at K-Mart. Very disturbing in this day and time.
Only emergencies or special events like Northern lights in cabin!
Make you check a box agreeing to loose cabin possibly

I sure hope the ship does keep the bingo announcements. That’s the only thing I listen for.🎉
🤦🏻♀️ when did I turn into my mother?
😂😂😂
Announcements are necessary. You miss important info otherwise.
Inre the quad, why don't they just charge what they want for it? If a couple wants it bad enough, they'll pay.
Incredibly annoying
Anything can happen when you travel or you cruise. And, yes, read the contract. It's buyer beware.
I agree with you. I don’t need announcements all day long. Especially early in the morning.
Lol... I can never understand what they are saying in the announcements
Yes like the announcement, never carry phone around with me.
Why would they let them on the ship? I just can't believe it.
The announcements are okay. My husband and I don't care one way or another.
Cut down on non essential announcements. Especially not in the cabins!
I’m kinda over cruise line greed. No future cruises booked and no plans to do so.
I am going on an Alaska Cruise also.
If I have a speaker in my bedroom giving out useless announcements, I'm clipping a speaker wire. Based on how often their shops break they'll never know it was me.
Have a great cruise.

Will NEVER book on Holland America now that I know about their shady practices! Thanks for the heads-up!
Don't you have any laws for customer protection?
Burying something important like this (cabin taken away) in the term and conditions would be deemed "surprising" and therefore illegal in the EU.
I mean, a cruise line could try, but it would not hold up in court.
Yes we had toilets not working on half the ship Celebrity Solstice on our last cruise. Lasted over an hour.
Ships are designed to be booked to maximum occupancy. Obviously I’m not going to expect to book 2 people in a cabin for 4 and then expect the cruise line to turn away more business.
When we were on Disney we couldn't even understand or hear the announcements plainly. It was annoying
As a Canadian I find cruising to expensive my last cruise was 2022 and know they are just nicking and diming you
I don’t mind the announcements as long as the voice isn’t annoying.
I vote for only security announcements. The rest can stop.
I would rather have the announcements in my cabin. I have to get up and go open the door to hear the announcements.
I don’t carry my phone when I am on the cruise ship, it is nice to here the announcements
Have a great cruise to Alaska.
Onboard announcement and onboard credit!
