I love how the acharwala is so confident about things he is not very well clued into. Those things are not true olives, but fruits common to South Asia, called "Ceylon olives" (Jalpai in Bengali and Assamese, they are sour and used to make Indian-style pickles). True olives (zeytoon), from which you get olive oil is a completely different species -- they are extremely bitter, so are impossible to eat unless pickled in brine and/or vinegar.
You should come Jodhpur and try mirchibada , chaturbhuj ke gulab jamun and ROSE BADAM ladoo, chutiye ki chakki and many more things........................

Olive pickle are best in vinegar or salt brine. Not in masala..
