Conrad def has a good point about people in poker only really being interested in things they have a shot at. People care about bracelets because there’s a buy in level for everyone to obtain one. The regular player does not have a reasonable path to play a year long leader board based around 3.5ks and above.
Yep and it's not just that you can win a bracket and a lot of different buy in levels. You just have to get lucky once. Brackets are a great marketing gimmick. To win POY you basically have to dedicate your life to tournaments which doesn't appeal to too many people.
On the topic of marketing in poker, and why people need incentive to care about these points races. The target audience are mostly busy with their own poker experiences; the hype/drama of a points race isn't interesting to them since they're experiencing their own form of "drama" & "excitement" within poker. Back in the day I remember myself and a lot of friends were almost certain there would eventually be big (non poker industry) sponsors coming in and running a league/circuit type format for players that were sponsored. Similar to Nascar. We can't expect for the (poker) market to behave the same way as professional/college sports. Sports enthusiasts just can't compete in any meaningful way that will benefit them in a monetary way or in terms of industry popularity. Anyone with $5k-10k can buy into a tournament, bink it, and gain widespread popularity within the community or beyond. This is why we'll never see big sponsorships in poker, and big business has no interest. IMO this is a good thing... we wouldn't see great podcasts like this being successful; these opportunities would be taken away by ESPN and other huge media companies.

I’m here for the rumblings in the Jewel of the South, don’t you worry LaTortoise.
What is Berkey on that the average player can play a $10k, 99% of players cannot afford that buy in.
Of course intuition can make money in poker in 2025. That's totally different than being a top tier player.

Brad Wilson is a fucking god! he dominated Lando and could probably beat anyone in the world head on!!!!
