this is shockingly convincing and im now accepting it as canon tbh. i wanted to add that maybe another explanation for the changes in appearence between atlanteans and "squidwards" could be evolution. After being left in the ocean without the aid of technology their bodies couldve adopted a morphology that facilitates subaquatic life (referring to the tentacles). But the religious explanation is also very possible
I’m going to point out that they could very well have tentacles as they are wearing gloves and shoes to cover up their hands and feet. Following SpongeBob’s cartoon logic, these could actually look like humanoid limbs while actually being tentacles.
i think it's more likely that the atlanteans' descendants just evolved to have tentacles rather than fingered limbs. at 3:27, you can see they clearly have regular hands and such, so the same probably goes for their legs as well.
The fact that there are Squidward-like statues close to the war elephant in the ancient Atlantis paintings 7:51 as some kind of worshipping kinda proves all of this to me

While this makes sense I'd postulate a different possibility: Divergent evolution. I think rather than extreme degrees of body modification, it's more likely that the two species simply evolved separately-- likely due to differing environmental factors. And as for the bubble thing, it could be the exact opposite-- not that they were shunned for disliking the bubble, but that they dislike bubbles because they remind them (at their base evolutionary level) of a superior version of themselves.
This video is really well done and well narrated! In my headcanon I've always thought that the octopuses in the show could've had a lot of history. They seems really different from the other species that are more animalistic. You forgot to mention the cephalopod lodge that doesn't looks like a sect or something esoteric, but a place where the cephalopods learn their traditions and rituals. In fact I've never felt that could've been a dangerous place for Squidward, he had a lot of respect and was one of the highest members. Tentacles Acres was a more modern version of Atlantis, the Cephalopod Lodge is more traditional. Also it's really strange that everyone of the octopuses likes the clarinet, interpretative dance and loves to paint themselves. The reason could be that are their traditions. About Squilliam, it seems the only one of their society that is so rich and recognized by everyone. I guess he had some sort of noble origins. As we could assume by his surname: Fancyson III. I can't believe that this guy became rich jus by himself. Surely is skilled, but he already had this wealth, he just become richer. Maybe his ancestor was a king that for some reasons was exiled or left Atlantis because he didn't agree with the actual leader. He knows about that and his rivalry with Squidward could be explained that he wanted to be treated as a king and our stubborn friend couldn't believe that or doesn't accept that. Maybe Squidward has noble origins too and is the only one that knows that, but no one would accept a self proclaimed king. And most of all a real king as Squilliam, as I already mentioned. Anyway he often likes to represent himself as a king. Well... anyway I think he could a good king! 😁 I imagine Squilliam more like king Julien from Madagascar! 😂
Fantastic video, I’m genuinely thinking Spongebob is one of the greatest shows of all time (maybe i’m late on that, idk). Which how much subtext there is in this series that *just so happens* to align with logical conclusions, I can’t help but feel it’s on purpose.
Honestly even if it wasn’t full on modification, Squidward walks upright and it wouldn’tbe hard to assume that ancestors of his would see their tentacles fuse into actual legs. But I think you are right. The great disagreement about the bubble caused a splintering.
@@TravisWilson-r3w I don’t agree with you opinion either, you say A lot of people are “religious” just for watching this. In turn does it make you religious commenting on sooooooo many of these.

It's dependent on how you speak, so for a lot of people the word "strengths" would be the longest monosyllabic word
To add to this theory, look at the color of neptune and squidward. its very similar. I think the split was actually one of pride. The atlanteans in current times worship neptune while the squids worship themselves. The art they make is " in their gods image" while the squids make art in their own image. It's closer a relation to heaven and hell. The sin of pride being their downfall and atlantens giving up their earthly form to achieve something greater than themselves.
oh, and on bubble blowing being in his genes, it was only when he was finally able to put his pride aside (out of spite mind you), and blow a bubble that he finally was able to become a talented clarinet player.
i feel like they probably weren't exiled but they left on their own not to say that this isnt the most coherent and concise theory about spongebob ive ever heard though
Very fun video, Great theory, I can totally see the writers setting this up and having a good time with it, the ancient ones from the painting look way to much like the “ squids” But I think squidward is pretty happy surrounded by his friends he genuinely cares for, but doesn’t want to admit that.
At 11:06 it’s almost as the robot arm was designed to welcome a guest who was there before and the irony that it was done with a robot arm showed that the technological advancements were so ahead they can use a robot arm as a greeting tool
Unwanted theory: From the basis of this, it could be that Squidward's ilk might be accurately described as an admixture of native populations of terrastrial squid and the alien Atlantean 'colonizers'. Notice, how despite being really similar to the Atlanteans, Squidward's people seem fit very well (albeit in lower social positions) with oceanic society and with them being similar enough with the Bikini Bottom residents in such a way that they are not as jarring as their less modern (as in more ancient, not necessarily unadvanced) ancestors are.
as a person who sat down and watched this whole entire video, i can confirm that this is the most rediculous video ive ever watched in my whole entire life
Was there ever any reference to Sandy trying to locate the city again? It seems like something she would do. Either to show off the discovered city to her fellow scientists or to advance her technology through observation.
To my knowledge she doesn’t, but maybe her inventions are based on Atlantean technology. For example, she built a shrink ray so SpongeBob and Patrick can explore inside Squidward’s body, which is very similar to the Atlantean’s shrinking device.
Or...... maybe it's an inconsistent kids show? Trying to form theories and using episodes produced long after the writers stopped caring and the show ONLY exists for Nick to milk it, kinda makes any and all theories just fall apart. It's like if people tried to do characters studies of Family Guy characters based on modern episodes.

I totally believe it. The atlantian character model is so bizarre with so many unacknowledged details but which had to have some imagined reason by the show makers. It looks like they took squidward, gave him a nose job, lip injections, and human limbs in a robot jumpsuit

And as for the bubble thing, it could be the exact opposite-- not that they were shunned for disliking the bubble, but that they dislike bubbles because they remind them (at their base evolutionary level) of a superior version of themselves.
I wish we could get an official answer from the creators about this theory
They did. They said squidward is a octopus but squidward sounds better than Octoward
I love your sppngebob theories so much! Instant sub
Glad you like them!
I didn’t expect much but wow!! That’s a damn solid theory!
This was absolutely incredible.
you’re very underrated, this was a W theory btw great work!! ^^
Glad you think so!
Honestly even if it wasn’t full on modification, Squidward walks upright and it wouldn’tbe hard to assume that ancestors of his would see their tentacles fuse into actual legs.
But I think you are right. The great disagreement about the bubble caused a splintering.
Instant sub. Your name "Squirreled" is golden.
Why does all of this guy's videos have to be so convincing...
I have completely accepted this as Canon because of how well thought out it is and how much sense it makes.
Your acceptance isn't reality
Also it doesn't make sense just because you're religious
@@TravisWilson-r3w I don’t agree with you opinion either, you say A lot of people are “religious” just for watching this. In turn does it make you religious commenting on sooooooo many of these.
@@TravisWilson-r3w an neither is yours
@TravisWilson-r3w Yes it does. It makes perfect sense. And plus I'm not religious...
Almost makes me wish the series actually had consistent lore for this to matter.
I like the cyclops part you said. Hope you will make a theory about why there are so mann mosters in Bikini bottom.
when a troll arguement gets too real
. i love your writing skills, this theory is pretty much fullproof
This went from amusingly silly, to convincingly depressing quite seamlessly
Squilliam really balling with the Squidward paintings on the wall as a merman in his house 2:36
Squidward is an octopus. The creators have said he's an octopus, and Squidward has said this on a couple of occasions as well.
The wealthy non-Squidwards are also completely unscrupulous while Squidwards species like to preserve their culture and unity
This is so weird it makes sense
Love that your channel name is the longest monosyllabic word in english (in american pronunciation of course)
it's not monosyllabic even in american english though relled is it's own syllable
@@wildstarfish3786 in American English, it is usually pronounced like "skworld", being one syllable. Some people do pronounce it with two, like you said, as in "skwih relled" (in the majority of UK dialects and accents it is pronounced like that with two), but in my accent it's just one. It's dependent on how you speak, so for a lot of people the word "strengths" would be the longest monosyllabic word
This was a great video!! I can't wait to see more from you!
Thanks! I’m excited to make more for you.
Can’t believe I’m this deeply invested in SpongeBob lore .
They're not the same color
@@jujijumanfalse
@M.N_2_3.there are none just because losers try to shove religious beliefs into anything and everything
@@TravisWilson-r3whe said very similar not the same
this is literally the best video ever
i feel like they probably weren't exiled but they left on their own
not to say that this isnt the most coherent and concise theory about spongebob ive ever heard though
That is another possibility.
Great job!
Squidward always look much weirder and humanoid than the other characters!
It explains him feeling different than the other fish!
In the episode, "Patrick the game" Squidward says that he is an octopus. So yeah.
Squidwards house looks more like the Atlantians than himself.
That's a brilliant theory! Love it!
Very fun video, Great theory, I can totally see the writers setting this up and having a good time with it, the ancient ones from the painting look way to much like the “ squids” But I think squidward is pretty happy surrounded by his friends he genuinely cares for, but doesn’t want to admit that.
Keep posting these types of videos with those thumbnails. You gonna blowup 💪🔥
Notice, how despite being really similar to the Atlanteans, Squidward's people seem fit very well (albeit in lower social positions) with oceanic society and with them being similar enough with the Bikini Bottom residents in such a way that they are not as jarring as their less modern (as in more ancient, not necessarily unadvanced) ancestors are.
as a person who sat down and watched this whole entire video, i can confirm that this is the most rediculous video ive ever watched in my whole entire life
Why is this voiced ovee by one of squidwards family.
Squidward Black Sun makes more sense now. We will find Squidborea. 🤫⚡⚡
The show artist have definitely said he’s an octopus. He just has 6 legs to make his character look less busy
Tbh, I never really even bothered learning much of any of the lore of SpongeBob because a lot of the time nothing made sense at all lmao.
Squidward literally calls himself an octopus in one of the episodes
After watching some of your videos. 7/10 squidward voice
Good point. I haven't seen a lot past season 4 so I was curious on if they brought it back.
This would make sense except squidward is confirmed to be a octopus
rick and morty pfft, i love squidward atlantean theory now
Or...... maybe it's an inconsistent kids show?
Trying to form theories and using episodes produced long after the writers stopped caring and the show ONLY exists for Nick to milk it, kinda makes any and all theories just fall apart.
It's like if people tried to do characters studies of Family Guy characters based on modern episodes.
Has anyone seen the movie called vivarium? That’s what tentacle acres reminds me off for those who have not seen id recommend either looking up clips on here or watching the full movie you can possibly find it on Netflix depending on what region you’re from ik North America has it on Netflix, but seriously give it a watch so you can see what I mean!
I totally believe it. The atlantian character model is so bizarre with so many unacknowledged details but which had to have some imagined reason by the show makers. It looks like they took squidward, gave him a nose job, lip injections, and human limbs in a robot jumpsuit
This is an absolutely amazing theory.
