"It May Look Like a Walnut" was my mom's favorite episode. And that's probably one of the most well remembered. But "The Ghost of A. Chantz" has always been my favorite by a mile. I've always loved the "spooky haunted house" comedy episodes of TV shows. And this is one of the best ever done. They don't make Television like this anymore. 🤧
I was just the wrong age for that kind of thing. These and "Uhne Utz" gave me nightmares when I was a kid. And don't get me started on The Twilight Zone. The problem was that I wasn't old enough yet to understand that these things weren't real, just old enough to know that they _weren't right._ So when Sally was looking straight at me with that expression, I practically dove under the rug.
I also love the “spooky” episodes of old TV shows- and there were many of them! Seemed like every popular show back in the 60s and 70’s had at least one spooky episode! 😮
@@falcychead8198.....the invaders used to scare me as a kid. Ironic as we ended up having a real landed ufo experience (still do have related happenings).
@@garyfrancis6193 You really know how to suck the fun out of something, don't you. Yes, I'm aware that "favourite" is a superlative and does not need a modifier, but in a casual remark, one is permitted such little lapses. Used this way, it constitutes more hyperbole than factual statement. How sad, Gary, to spend your time correcting the grammar of strangers on the internet, particularly in areas where it is wholly irrelevant. Now, would you like to get into it over whether my first sentence is an actual question, therefore requiring a question mark, or if it is rhetorical and may use a period?
This episode scared the hell out of me when I saw it in syndication as a little kid. My mother kept telling me it was funny, but I didn't think there was anything funny about that "ghost" appearing in mirrors and the like.
As a kid I thought the walnut episode was freaky because it was so much like the horror and sci-fi of the same era and I'd seen way too many of those. This one I could kinda tell they were being set up.
I remember this episode from when I was a kid in the 60s, 😊. What a treat. The fireplace wood guy has NO wristwatch though at about 7:33 when he checks his watch for the time LOL. It's funny too how Laura mentions Rob stealing bed pillows in the middle of the night. They slept in twin beds. That I remember well. TY for uploading. Nice memories
My favorite episode. So much so that I know most lines by heart. This show carried me through the bereavement of my mom. Simple, kind, generous, funny and all around wholesome. Best cast ever.
This is one of my fave eps. It's a good mystery for first timers. I watched this show new, as a kid. What was never explained was what was the ghostly face Laura saw in the mirror, and what horror did Rose Marie see while outside the bedroom she shared with Laura. I always wondered why Dick van Dyke tripped over the ottoman at the start of the eps.Didnt he see that big thing and also know it was there? How can Rob and Laura hog pillows and blankets when they each have a twin bed?
A clever play on Candid Camera; 'Sneaky Camera.' Back in the 1950s and 1960s, we were taught that there are no such things as ghosts! The only people who actually believed that were the ones who hadn't yet seen one. 😱 *BOO*
Definitely in my top five all time episodes. But there's one little glitch. When Laura tells Buddy "to be careful because Rob kicks the covers off" and Rob tells Sally "if she steals a pillow just take it back", I've never understood how they supposedly knew this since the two of them slept in separate twin beds for the entire series. So no one would have been kicking covers off of anyone and no one would've been stealing pillows.
One of my faves. Unfortunately we will never know Rosemarie’s comments on it. During the film archives interview about the show she mentioned it twice as if she was eager to tell some story about it. The stupid interviewer never caught that and just keep ignorantly asking questions over her and she never got a chance to say what she wanted to about this episode. She passed on in 2017 so we will never know.
This was a funny one, except for Sally’s face (viewed from our perspective, it looks a bit fake) and Mel’s knee high socks in black, no less! There were many scary movies during the 80s, unlike this! Still, after 60+ yrs, it’s still a favorite series of mine. I wasn’t even born yet.
9:11 is yet another timeline inconsistency. If they only worked together for 5 years- how were they ALL together when Laura announced her pregnancy with Ritchie- who, by this timeline is likely 10 years old.
Fun but kind of corny. When Sally is seeing the bad whatever she's got her mouth wide open in terror. You telling me she wouldn't have been screaming and fighting those who were trying to take her? Love the show though. Would have been great to have been in the live audience. I suppose they were told to believe they could see the face of the man in the mirror.....While filming it would not have been there.

It takes a classical education and creative thinking to write like this!! And without f bombs!!

Agree and I also like “ The Great Petrie Fortune”.
Favourite is an extreme adjective that can’t be modified as there can be only one favourite.it’s like saying “most best”.
@garyfrancis6193 Give it a rest. It's a colloquialism.
This episode makes me happy if I'm sad or if I'm worrying about something 😊.
This is the best episode of Mel finally getting the BEST of Buddy! Yippee....
"This couch was open!" always cracks me up! Perfect comedic timing.
They had a decent script writer for this episode, apparently. Nobody delivered any ad libbed lines, obviously.
The comment by Sally, " so what time do we feed the walls?" Just makes me laugh every time!
Ok, this was the funniest episode of the whole series!!
One of the best episodes.
By far one of the funniest episodes I still laugh hysterically every time

One of my many favorites! My favorite sitcom ever. Their chemistry was classic. I still laugh after seeing some of these episodes dozens of times!!
My Number 1 most favorite episode of the entire series
This is my favorite episode. Second one is when Laura and Millie are home alone overnight!!!!
So nice to “connect” with others who loved this show. My favs as well.
@@ontheprairie Same here!! my 2 favorites as well!

Thank you I forgot about that one haha it’s so good too
Second favorite episode. Milton Parsons, the Caretaker, is a wonderful character actor. Thank you for posting this!
I remember watching this as a kid and it scared the crap out of me!
🙄
Hoped you wiped it up
I know! I still don't watch this one cuz it scaws me 😆
One of the best episodes
The comic timing of these shows is so good. Very talented actors. I grew up watching these shows.
Richard Deacon (Mel Cooley) wearing shorts and knee socks. Perfect. All he needed was sock garters. 😄
Totally the best episode so far and I actually got scared even if I knew it's a comedy, that face was terrifying and very funny too.
"Look at that, a man-eating bed!". My absolute all-time favorite DVD Show episode.
60's tv was the best!
Awesome 👌 cool loved that one 😎 great show thanks
MTM America's Sweetheart ! She sure was , what a doll she was.

This is really the only episode I remember from when I was kid, born in 61and watched many other episodes on oldies stations. Great to see it again!
@@debrahelmlinger6256 It is a great episode to remember👍 You have great taste in old TV memories from our mid century childhoods. :)
That was deliberately meant to be "funny"....checking a nonexistent watch for the time. You didn't point out anything anyone else missed.
Actually I missed the watch and I’m sure that at least one other person in the universe missed it as well. I appreciate his comment
This is my favorite episode by far!
I enjoyed that particular show and always will 🎉😅
One of my favorite episodes I leve Sallys question What time do we feed the walls Just so funny
my fave episode ..I love spooky episodes esp. on the classic tv shows
Top 10 best episodes 😉
This is one of my favorite episodes up Dick Van Dyke. I was just wishing I could watch it again and then I was lucky enough to find it.❤❤❤❤
This episode scared me as a little kid.
Now it's fun to watch it again w/o wetting my pants.😅
My favorite episode by far
Laura and Rob talk like they sleep in the same bed when they’re telling buddy and Sally about stealing pillows in kickingcovers off
good point
Love this show
My favorite episode. So much so that I know most lines by heart. This show carried me through the bereavement of my mom. Simple, kind, generous, funny and all around wholesome. Best cast ever.
Ok…I think I found another favorite 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
best one yet
One of my favorite episodes
I uses to live in a haunted house where a man kill himself . You could actually hear him walking up the stairs
Omg!! 😱
BULL! There is no such thing as "ghosts," nor of "haunted" buildings of any kind.
If that happened today, my landlord would double the rent!
How can they steal each other's pillows? Or take the covers off when they have twin beds? 😂
This show is a riot 😂😂
I love this episode 😂 this is about the fourth time ive watched it.
I like Mel's more relaxed attitude in this one 😊
This was a Very Funny episode 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is my favorite episode. I watch it over and over. It's so funny 😅
Actually scarier than many B films of the same time period.
I stayed in a mountaintop cabin and as I went in I thought of this episode. The place reminded me of it. Sure enough it was haunted.
They had some great horror sketches. LOL

The ghostly face was the camera man, so creepy looking through.
This is my favorite episode of all time especially the haunted cabin

So great.
watching several times so hysterical
12:52 “Ghost got up and left” 😂

May be that this was the first episode after her husband died, May 27, 1964 and this was filmed August 11.
I think she died.
@@HansDelbruck53 OMG, she was already dead and she was a ghost when they filmed this!!
@@falcychead8198 My point was that she died. She didn't "pass".
I can’t stand incompetent interviewers. 😑 SMH
If Richie rubs his face during the intro (as with this intro),Rob trips over the footstool.
I heared when Dick Van Dyke triped during the intro....that was a accident....it was so funny they kept it in the intro.
can't stop laughing each time I see this episode

Buddy? ...Sally? ...Mama!
There's a seam showing at 16:30, you can see the cable used to operate the lamp on cue, held down with gaffer's tape.

it was spooky and funny at same time.
Sally: “Vincent?” 😂

Laura really needs a refresher on her karate training.

Just realized Buddy said “we’ve been working together 5 years…” to Sally, but it’s really been 10!
