Thank you so much for explaining where to line up the edge of the paper with the measuring lines. I have so much trouble with this, never knowing whether to be on the line or next to the line. I have both the Tim Holtz and the Friskars and I was measuring them the same way. Trying to, accurately, cut 1” squares has been a nightmare. This video has been so helpful. 👏🏽💜
I have had some trouble with the fiskars cutting straight, this helps alot! I also have noticed on mine at least I have to have the cutter setting completely flat if not it will not cut the paper straight. I am so going to try using sticky notes when I am mass cutting thank you so much for the tip!
I'm so happy you found this helpful! When I started making notepads I ran into issues until I troubleshooted and landed on this solution! Have fun making your booklet ☺️
I've been using the exact same model FISKARS cutter featured in your video, and I never knew that you could click the orange-colored retainer away from the cutting assembly and tilt the cutting assembly away from the cutting table. I just looked at the packaging for this cutter that identifies all of its features, and that feature was not identified. Thanks for showing me how this feature works. I was always having trouble fishing or blowing the scraps away from the cutting assembly. Now I just lift the cutting assembly.
I watched this a couple of days ago, and it didn't work. I watched it again today, and your comment about pages not being the right size caught my attention. Light bulb! So I tried everything again, cutting off the small extra length, and I did a much better job the second time. Thank you for sharing!
You are a lifesaver!!! I have a ton of scrap paper that I want to trim down and use in a happy planner mini, but all of them are coming out different sizes. 😩 I am totally trying again tomorrow using your trick!! Thank you so much! 😊
Amanda this video was so helpful. I always struggle with cutting card bases. I have a trimmer like your first one. I had no idea some paper is bigger either. I should make some today so that they are ready... TFS Big Hugs!!!!!
What a FANTASTIC video!! Just an awesome tip. I’ve noticed on a couple of my fiskars trimmers that the top edge, where the top of the paper butts up against, isn’t always straight. So I have to adjust my paper to keep it straight on the measurement line. I’ve noticed paper is sometimes not exact too, so I measure it before I cut & then try to adjust my cutting position to make it even. Your way is MUCH better!! I will be using this trick for sure. Thank you!!!
This was brilliant. Thank you. Most useful video I’ve watched in a LONG time. Thanks from a lady who always has crooked paper. Will be using your method. Once my sticky notes are in place, can I leave them there forever and just always use them to butt up against? Obviously until they get worn out and then I would use a new one. Make sense?
+D I'm so happy this was helpful for you!! I think that if you wanted to keep the sticky notes on the cutter permanently it would work..but maybe try the full sheet stickies to keep it more secure for a longer period of time. I would also make sure your tape on top is really burnished down well so it doesnt decide to peel up! However, I will say I haven't tried keeping it on there for more than one cutting session (lol), so I cant guarantee how long it would actually stay put. I'd say as long as you double check that it hasn't shifted since the last time you used it (and cut a test piece), then I think it'd work! If it does start shifting you can just peel off the bottom sticky note and go from there. Something else to take into consideration is that over time it could potentiality leave an adhesive residue where the notes and tape are. Whew, this was a long reply! I hope it makes sense and answers your question! Again, I haven't tried this, but if I were to this is what I'd do!! Happy trimming 😊💖
Wow so simple thank you so much for this technique I’m definitely going to use it. I want to start making cash envelopes and I cannot get The card stock uniform for the life of me. I was even going to return the circuit joy and purchase one that will cut everything uniform. Now I’m going keep my circle joy so I can make my labels and use your technique. Great video thanks so much🙏
That’s amazing. I had a good friend that passed but he was a computer person. He used to say all the time that when I had trouble with my computer, it’s them, not us causing the problem. Hence the fact the card stock was not right, out of the package!
Thank you! It seems so simple. I have both style cutters. The guillotine one I thought would be easier, but I’d still end up with a few hairs off and it would drive me nuts. It seems I didn’t understand how to line up my paper correctly 😅

Great tips! Had I known this when I started card crafts a year ago, I wouldn't have driven myself crazy wondering why my cuts were off all the time.
Glad this helps! I thought for so long that I just measure right 😂
