    isn't it ironic that data science was used to predict that data science would be an up and coming career path.

      Zach, you need to learn how to recognise hype in the reporting of AI findings and pay attention to the details.
      Machine learning research is full of hype in the way it is reported to and by the media. Ignore the New Scientist article and go straight to the source and you will see this is very unlikely that this research is even a stepping stone towards the goal of self-writing code.
      It isn't even the first time people have claimed to have self-writing algorithms, google constructive hyper-heuristics. When you look at the detail you realise it's a very weak claim.

    Thanks for the video. Your videos are very insightful. Learning about the recent scandals by Cambridge Analytica, data science and big data can be a scary thing. You're right that it's easy to collect data, but what you DO with it is the most interesting part. Also, may I suggest a minor tweak in your setup? - to use a few shades darker on the color of your shirt and the monitor wallpaper? The contrast is sometimes harsh and distracting. Thank you!

    • @wfe06
      @wfe06 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am also a mechanical engineer, and also looking to switch to the data science field. So far I've gathered that the best option is to do a Master's degree from a top school in the US. Programming is probably not your strong suit so you should focus on schools that emphasize on the math/statistics more than the coding part, that way you're building on your strength.

    • @nk71995
      @nk71995 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Wahid El Chaar Iam doing Masters in systems engineering, will that be helpful. Because there are statistics stuffs in my course. After completing systems I have to find a way to switch to data science. BTW thanks for your reply Sir.

    • @wfe06
      @wfe06 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      naren kesavan Jobs in the data science market require a decent understanding of programming, business, statistics, and math. As a mechanical engineer, your math and statistics skills are more than sufficient for the job. However, most mechanical engineers take introductory courses in programming plus some numerical computing algorithms; this means you need to gain some knowledge and experience in programming so you can make the cut. My advice is to pursue another Master's degree in data science, data analytics, or machine learning... Most programs require extensive work on real-life capstone projects and internships, which will give you the experience you need. This should fill in the gaps and help you to become a successful data scientist.

      The three big aspects of a data scientist are mathematics, computer science, and business knowledge. Your managerial/business skills will get you into data analysis but eventually you'll need to study in the two other fields if you want to become a data scientist. For example, I'm doing a bachelors in administration and affairs and will major in mathematics and B.I. After that I plan on doing masters degree in computer science.
