We're not born strong. We _become_ strong.
Just like all the good qualities of man, strength is developed through growth and perseverance.
If you're a child and you're weak, there's nothing wrong with it. But if you go through puberty and into adulthood without getting rid of said weakness, then yes, you should feel ashamed.

I think this is the core truth of Catholicism, and all of Western history, for that matter; in fact, it's the core truth of Darwinism to some degree. The fact you are alive, proves that you are stronger than all that tried to kill you. You can see this core message in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, for example. Both extremely Catholic works, with the general theme being: fight on, even when you think you're going to lose, because you never truly know the future (technically, it's a sin to despair, and to admit defeat is despair, as it implies that you know the future and how things will turn out, but you never do), and you never truly know just how strong you are or could be.

    Frodo : I can't do this, Sam.
    Sam : I know.
It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy. How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened. But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo : What are we holding on to, Sam?
Sam : That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.

I was always taught you have to do things right the first time and that there are no second chances. Failure was never seen as something to learn from, but as shameful and proof of inferiority to those who succeed. That there was no reason to bother doing anything when there are others around you who are more talented or more experienced, as they will always be favored.
I grew up surrounded by people both at school and at home who drilled this mindset into me day in and day out. It led me to develop crippling depression, a sense of worthlessness, and thoughts of suicide on a monthly basis. Only very recently have I started hearing this kind of mindset. I am clawing tooth and nail to get myself out of this mental hole that I have been put in. It’s so easy to slip back down to the bottom, and it hurts so much to land back into that dark dark place. Each time I get back to climbing however, I go slightly higher than last time. I’m still not out yet, and I have a long way to go. However, I will persevere.

"the problem is the perspective of 'this happened to me'... helpless and fruitless"
Many people face many problems that they factually did not cause. You want them to pretend like reality doesn't exist?
"no matter how shitty your parents are, someone else has or much worse"
That's the worst Tu quoque I've heard since:
"And you are lynching Negroes" (Russian: "А у вас негров линчуют", A u vas negrov linchuyut) and the later "And you are hanging blacks" are catchphrases satirizing Soviet propaganda's response to American criticisms of its human rights violations. Use of the phrases like these, exemplifying the tu quoque tactic, was an attempt to deflect criticism of the Soviet Union by referring to racial discrimination and lynching in the United States".
      en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/And_you_are_lynching_Negroes
So person A doesn't have problems because person B has more problems? Again, did you realize this was stupid before you pressed send or after?
"if you wanna sit around and blaim the WORLD for YOUR PROBLEMS"
[Appeal to motive and framing emotive language]... Just because you value stoicism doesn't make it "good".
      "wallowing in self pity"
You're literally calling the act of talking about your problems "wallowing". Are you serious? Stop victim blaming people for literally having problems. peter jordanson makes no sense in this video and you make even less sense trying to defend what he said. You don't have the right to determine whose issues are valid and who doesn't deserve the right to acknowledge them. You're not the fucking gatekeeper of emotions. And understanding problems is an essential step to dealing with them.

Receiving input from people with different experiences and viewpoints.
Introducing subconscious thoughts to the conscious.
Did you know that people actually pay money to SPEAK with psychologists because they helps them solve their problems? You know what doesn't help? Telling people to "get tougher".
"but it needs to quickly move past that and into a place..."
No, problems don't work like that. There is no "thing" to be done that can undo or end most people's problems. And when they are working on their problems, they are going to continue to talk about them.
"you can't control the outside world, so why focus on it"

No it's not, because you're already starting with the assumption that acknowledging your problems are "weak".
Now that you mention it, next time my friend tells me about their anxiety, I'll just tell them to get over it and stop having anxiety. When my lesbian friend is upset about how her religious parents treat her, I'll just mean over and say "stop talking about it and solve it by divorcing your family and moving to a different state. Problem solved"
I wonder how many speeches jordanson has given to poor inner city youths about how they should just "get over their problems by being tough".
      Unreal.
Many problems in life do not have solutions. And most of the other ones are not easily solvable.
"the only thing that any of us can truly do in this world is work on improving ourselves and our situation"
Ya, if you only care about yourself and think that you can decide what a person's value is, then sure.

I was watching this anime called Attack On Titan. In a recent episode, there’s a flashback between two characters showing them when they were school children. One of the kids keeps getting bullied, so the other one tells him “they’re just going keep attacking you unless you fight back. Aren’t you tired of losing?”
In response, the first kid says “I’m not losing... because I don’t run.”
I loved that line. Even if you can’t fight back, even if you’re outnumbered, outclassed, and have no hope of winning (which is absolutely true when we’re pitted against Mother Nature), you can still show up and weather the storm. They can break your body and even your heart, but if they can’t break your spirit, you will never lose.
Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning is one of the greatest testaments to the strength of the human spirit, and a great example of the scene above.
“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms-to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” - Viktor Frankl

Not sure what you mean by "normalizing" depression. You can't really expect people with depression to just "get over it" and work hard to overcome their symptoms, because one of the symptoms is thinking you don't deserve that happiness in the first place. Depression isn't just a disorder, it's one that locks you into itself. People with depression need actual help (someone to motivate them to see a therapist, take anti-depressants, etc), not someone to tell them they're doing it wrong.

To take ownership and say "this situation is partly my fault and I will make it better, OR even though this situation is NOT my fault, I will make it better." Suffering, sadness, and misfortune WILL come for you. The question is how do you respond?

Coming to grips with reality, what is most important on planet earth, and the fact that what I thought was most important was incorrect, was difficult.

I fell into bad habits and making excuses for my shortcomings instead of trying to overcome those obstacles in front of me. I am 24 now, paralyzed from the chest down at the age of 22, it has taking me about a year and a half to regain my mentality and remember who I am. I am not saying that I want to be who I was as a young teenager. I am saying that who I am now is a product of who I could’ve been, not who I recently have been. “It’s not okay to be a loser.” Yes, I agree. But what makes someone a loser? I don’t think chasing wealth, material possessions, or titles like MD and PHD in order to feel better about yourself and better than other people makes you a winner. Doing your own thing on your own terms makes you a winner. Even if it means being broke or financially uncomfortable for a period of time. Blindly following society’s generic script and idea of what success is doesn’t make you a success just because you’re good at it.

There's being tough and then there's running headfirst into a woodchipper. Deciding not to do the latter isn't a sign of weakness, it's a sign of staying alive. That's the point we are at now in 2021 I believe.

In my experience, most things that appear to be "too hard" or "impossible", so you're even afraid to think about it let alone do something, are way more possible if you put all your strength in it. My best example, finding a (good) job: I didn't have much hope, felt desperate, I was afraid to even go to a interview because i feared I will fail. But soon I've managed to get some confidence and strength. I went to my first interview: FAIL, second: FAIL, every time I failed I didn't really feel so bad, this was a shocking discovery :) Yeah, I failed, I know why I failed, improve that part and try again. Few more fails followed, and then BAM, you're HIRED! :D Best day ever. I still work at the same company around 6.5 years now. Amazing what you can do if you accept failure and keep improving. I kept that attitude and life is great, I feel like there is nothing that can stop me. And I was a loser once, think about it.

Man, this is great. When I first discovered Jordan Peterson, I could not comprehend what in the world he was saying and that was more of a reflection of my incompetence than his explanations. I have now taken it upon myself to spend a considerable amount of time studying Jordan Peterson and have come to understand much of his work. (I still have lots to go) However, integrating art with his words is a honestly a masterpiece and allows the viewer to become way more engaged than just a lecture or podcast format. Awesome stuff.

I hope people don't confuse fear with weakness. Its ok to be scared - or it wouldn't be hard. Bravery to face adversity and yourself despite the fear. Most importantly be compassionate to yourself through facing these fears - be your best ally.

I don’t agree that because something is “a human concept” it doesn’t exist.
Does gravity exist? Does evolution exist?
Both of the above examples are NOT “absolute Truths”. This means that they are “human concepts” or “models”. They don’t perfectly represent reality.
They’re still facts, but they are not “absolute Truths”.
If it sounds confusing, you aren’t alone.
Scientists today don’t ever say “our facts are scientific Truths.” They say “our facts best represent the data we’re presented”.
Evolution is a fact that is more proven than General Relativity.
Every scientific fact has a percentage for its success rate.
Evolution’s is so high, along with gravity, that it’s extremely hard to dispute it’s validity and experimental efficacy.

It's funny, when I told people I was making a Jordan Peterson animation, I received mixed reactions. Some folks were overjoyed and others thought it was a big mistake. The media intentionally misrepresents Jordan Peterson, but when I actually watched some of his unedited lectures, I found a lot of meaning in his ideas. I'm curious to know what do you think of Jordan?
