Larry bein' Larry - always great. Not too sure the band feels what's needed.... lack of dynamics, and wall of sound is not always the way to go. In the end it's all about ears
The sax section sounds strange. One of the two alto players is too loud in the mix and his intonation is very loose. Larry tries to calm the rhythm section down at the start of his solo to have more dynamic range to climb up towards the end. He´s always very particular about that. You can see it even in other videos where he plays together with Robben Ford and he gives the drummer Toss Panos signs to play lighter and repeats this three times until he is satisfied.
guitarelaxed i was wondering what he was motioning for! Aside from playing in pubs and smaller venues, I can't say i have a lot of experience with larger productions like this so i thought it could have been one of a number of things like his monitor or some other levels
