Industrial and lab grown diamonds actually aren't that expensive! I can't give you a cost estimate, because I'm not too familiar with the world of diamonds, but I know they're way cheaper to obtain.

I don’t think the diamond was real tbh, because you shouldn’t be able to break a diamond with a hammer, they’re super strong one of the strongest materials. Also i don’t know if you have ever seen the Overtime 1 of dude perfect, but they tested this and they weren’t able to break the diamond with a hammer :)

In the case of the rebar, It could also be the thickness of the material. Liquid Nitrogon only flash freezes stuff, and the cold doesn't sink in very far. For example if you drop a water balloon in. you can pull it back out peel of the balloon and crack the ice like an egg revealing a still liquid center.
It's a similar process to forging. If you quench a hot peice in water, the rapid cooling causes it to harden so fast that it can crack or break while if you do it in oil, it cools faster leaving it hard but not so hard that it can crack or shatter with the smallest hit.
The entire market around diamonds is a lie, anyway. There are enough diamonds kept on stockpile to last the jewelry market five years. Diamonds are carbon, they're just pretty to look at and that's why they're so "precious".

This would mean that at colder temperatures(still above DBTT), stainless steel would retain its ductile properties hence have greater shear strength than mild steel that may lose its ductile properties at the same temperature.
Things do not shatter when they are cold because they have water in them, I mean that has some effect but it's mostly just the fact that crystalline structures become less forgiving when the molecules in them have less kinetic energy (low temperature).

Well the reasoning behind is as you mentioned cooled material become more brittle, so steel that is already hardened will shatter more easily when cooled, like pad locks. Another reasoning is that regional rapid temperature differences can create micro cracks and weakening the material. But mostly extreme winter can cause damage to metal structure cause the dimensional shrinking that can cause cracking along side the welds. That is also why even when welding will be cheaper, bolts are used to give the structure bit flex, but most affected are objects made from cast iron. Maybe like if you shoot a pan with a bb gun it survive but cool it in nitrogen and it will shatter by the bb.
