Bird is used in the West Country I,e Somerset just as a greeting tp someone you know, for example you could say "Alright my bird", which is not actually asking if your alright..... its basically saying "Hello...how are you?"
That's the first I've heard of "bird" in the 14 years of living in Bristol/Somerset. I would probably say "luvver" or "love" is a more common variant. Ie "alright my luvver". Actually one of the weirdest things for me to encounter moving to Cider land was the use of "to" at the end of sentences to denote location. "where's that to?" Or "where be he to?". Followed by the use of "won" instead of "beat". "we beat the other team" becomes "we won 'em". The West country is an odd place, at least to me, a North Yorkshireman.
Hi Lena! If it wasn't for you ,I wouldn't know what Markette was. It's not a big thing in Scotland and neither is Cheerleading, that's not to say It doesn't exist ,just very few schools do it. A friend of mine's daughter did Baton Twirling and represented Scotland in International competition but her poor Dad had to work 7 days per week to afford to send his Wife and Daughter to the comps! 😢 This vid was in my feed but there's not much of this interesting to me as I'm an old man so I probably won't watch any other stuff. Best of Luck, and I hope you all land successfull dance roles! 👊✌️
haha thanks for reaching out David! that's so cool! yeah Markettes is the name of our team but the sport is called drill team! its a big thing in the US along with cheerleading! baton twirling isnt super huge here, however it looks so fun and interesting!! best of luck to you and her! 🩷🩷
