My mom was born in raised some in Dodge City back in the 1920's. She was born on "Front Street" (or, was it called "Frontier Street"?). I kidded people over the years that she knew "Matt Dillon" of the "Gunsmoke" radio and TV series...but, seriously, she had some good early memories of the famous Kansas town.

I use to haul crude oil and stayed in dodge. I loved it to.
I was in jail in Gainesville, Texas with a kid from Dodge City. He broke into a pharmacy in Gainesville and stole a bunch of pain pills smh. He was a bit of an idiot. I wonder if he's still in prison?

These podcasts give my old eyes welcome relief. I Lived my youth in the border war area of Missouri and Kansas. Thank so very much for pumping life into the old west.
Bat Masterson was the coolest.and the real deal. Unlike many Wild West figures, most of the stories about him are true.He survived the Wild West and moved to NYC, He got a job as a sports writer on the "New York Telegraph". He died of a heart attack at his desk, writing his sports column. He used to go to pawn shops in NYC to buy old COLT Peacemakers. He would carve notches in the handles and sell them to gullible New Yorkers for extra cash He would pass the old guns off as the gun he used to "tame" Dodge City. Too funny.

This is great. Excellent detail. Excellent storytelling. The only thing this thing lacks is maybe some documentations. Some photographs of some of these old settlements and stuff might be handy. And more interesting.. otherwise it's just talking books. Which is okay. It's just nobody wants to sit there and stare at the screen
Wonderful network. I've just discovered it today and decided to subscribe and listen to Episode 1. Meticulous attention to historical fact and detailed authenticity. Very professionally done. Narration is superb.
I started rewatching the old western series Tombstone Territories, Legend of Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson and to hear the real stories of the day and the men whom legends were made while taming the west and I will say the old series give an idea what it could really have been like in the day. Really enjoy your series.

It were Billy, 'cause Willie played bass git-fiddle in a blues band. And them hippies in that Fred Zeppelin, they took some of his music and made it theirs.

I don't believe it was possible to get that many individuals of those tribes together for any length of time. I firmly believe the estimates were exaggerated.

When you read about how the army sent out in essence buffalo safaris for the wealthy completely supplied with every amenity saying "every buffalo killed is an Indian gone" it's amazing we have any buffalo...or Indians in America!
You realize that our military does nothing on its own but only at the behest of the president and elected officials, your bias against the army is horrible
How about..he was known as an Indian fighter but killed his first white man in Sweetwater does that sound better ??
Earp was a crook and in his late days a rampant liar who cared for nothing but his own gain.
I have read the town of mobeetee,TX. translated from Kiowa means buffalo dung.
You failed to mention that another famous man of the time, Temple Houston, a new attorney and son of Sam Houston, was defense counsel for Batt Masterson following the killing of the “soldier” all occurring at Sweetwater, later in 1879 changed to Mobeetie, Texas, where Houston became the District Attorney.

I know the creators of this channel put a lot of time and effort into making it look and sound as professional as it does but unfortunately in the case of this video they took it too far, the music is atrocious and more than that it’s distracting, especially when using ear buds to listen, all I can hear is some random electric guitar and every minute or so someone rocks out on the drums real quick, wash, rinse and repeat, im interested in this topic and usually enjoy this type of podcast but I gave up right now at 8 minutes..I hope for everyone that continues ahead that it gets better for y’all’s sake ✌🏻

Dodge City is upstream from Fort Dodge
I wondered who else would catch the mistake. Now just by a strange coincidence, the old Republic of Texas boundary line betwixt Indian Territory and Texas ran from Red River due north to the Arkansas River on the 100°00'00" meridian. And when Buffaler City was renamed Dodge City,it just happened to be on the north side.
The Compromise of 1850 had Texas relinquish all the land north of 36°30'00 N.and draw the present boundary lines. Plus their debt of 10 million samolains was cancelled.
I wound'nt have given up that land!

You said Bat killed his first man in Sweetwater, I guess you don't consider Indians as men. You tell it as Kit Carson was a hero, yet, "Kit Carson charged with genocide of the Navajos." has rang for 135 years. I understand that history is not written by the dead but by the victor.
Its insane that so many were remembered during these days.. most of us alive today will be forgotten long before 150 years from now. And they lived during a time when record keeping wasn't what it is today.
That's because these people "made" a name for themselves. It's harder to do today with 8 billion people in the world and with technology that took over the world so not many live in the real world anymore, everyone lives in the internet matrix world
