Bob I think you owe Rob a thick ear for this one. The Holmes Wrecker could have become a "Home Wrecker" with all the dramas. You're a brave man Bob Willis.Cheers and well done!

Rob picked the right fella to send this one to. The Ford CL 9000 was ahead of it's time actually, with many new features and the Holmes wrecker body is a classic here in the U S. I am a retired truck driver (32 years) and a modeler for 50. I have a soft spot for the
"big rigs" and you did this one up just dandy !

Hey Bob....another impeccable restoration!!!! Probably one of the most complicated I've watched you do.
I sincerely admire your patience. You should be proud of this amazing accomplishment. It's a real beauty.
This Corgi, Holmes Wrecker was on my Christmas Wish List to Santa. But...regretfully...I never received one.
Of all Corgi models, this is one of my all-time favorites. It's truly a work of detailed craftsmanship.
THANKS for taking the challenge of restoring it & for providing all your skills to return this gem to its' former glory.
I'm praying you & those you love remain safe and healthy.
    Kindest regards, Ben
P.S. Don't forget to touch-up that small bit of red paint at the rear :- )

We recently took one of these apart... From our "hands-on" experience ..much easier way to take the cab apart is....by pulling off the small black badge on the front of the cab... The cab until...falls apart .. great job on this one as well...stay safe wife and yourself ...

Excellent work, Bob! I've got 3 of these Corgi Majors with the Ford H cab which I'm restoring - the Holmes Wrecker, the blue artic with the box trailer and the car transporter. I've found that you don't need to mess with the lug at the back of the the cab. When you take the 'diesel' badge out you can pull the front of the cab up and back so it clears the tab at the back. That's why yours fell apart when you took the badge out! Hope that helps anyone else who is restoring one of these.

Hahaha Bob! I've got one of these to do up. Actually one and a half. There is enough parts and pieces to make one good one. It should be fun, now you have showed me the way. I really like how you did the diamond plate on the back. That turned out great. On the subject of making windscreens. I went to the dollar store (pound shop) and got a clear plastic salad bowl. The plastic is the right thickness, you just have to find the right curve on the bowl to cut out. For flat glass, use a jewel case from a cd or dvd and cut that to fit. Maybe your Milli Vanilli cd or Rick Astley!

    • @BobWilliscorgi
      @BobWilliscorgi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes I’ve told people to use the cd transparent protection disc for making windscreens instead of buying them from model suppliers in my videos 👍

Lovely work Bob, I did the tractor unit one of these last year and that was a fiddle to do, but this really was a stunning restoration! You do realize that now you’ve said to steer clear of having a go at doing one of these, it’s going to have the opposite effect, I have been looking to get one to restore for some time, because I really love this wrecker for some reason, but they always go so damned expensive on eBay, that so far I haven’t got one! ( me being too tight I suppose😂😂).
You’ve really done yourself proud with this one though Bob, despite all the teething troubles, you carried on through and got it all sorted, well done mate😊👌👍
Hope your Mrs is doing ok, best wishes to you both, stay safe, Nick.

Presto chango, remove the lower section and you have a Ford "C" series tilt cab (top part). Except for removing the filler panel that covers where the front wheels would be it's the same medium duty truck that was very popular. All they did to make the heavier duty 8000 series was to join the "C" series cab atop another section.

The software i use is free to use its called Gimp. resizing no problem. I download pictures of the original boxes which i enhance using Gimp. I also make most of the decals i need using the same program. Takes a while getting the hang of it. Definitely worth the effort. Runs well on my laptop. Some webb sites try to charge you for it.
