About Sanford And Son: The highest-rated half-hour series in NBC history at the time, Sanford and Son stars Redd Foxx as the cantankerous sexagenarian Fred Sanford and Demond Wilson as his son Lamont, also his business partner in the family junk-dealing business. To prevent his son from leaving home, and bent on having things his own way in general, Fred often calls upon such ruses as fake heart attacks or phony back ailments. Lamont usually sees through these subterfuges, but because he loves his father, he lets him think he's getting his way.

You must not have been around in the '70s. The show was extremely popular, most of the time it was on, number two, close behind number one (All in the Family) and at number Three. Also, Redd Fox did standup and made more than 50 popular comedy albums.

Little known fact: The argument between Fred and Ester at the jail cell was all ad-lib. They both thought what was on the script was not what the two of them would say at that time.
That is an AMAZING fact. That was one of the funniest dialogs between them. "I didn't put no stain on yo family, yo family stained when I met y all."
To think, we've never seen Rita Lawson, Rollo's mom as much as she was mentioned!

The difference in the shows of today is Redd Foxx made it look natural. It was like it was real and not a show. And it was truly done live in front of an audience. Not a laugh track. Show was way ahead of its time. Came out in 1972.. 50 years ago and still stands up today.
