Thank you 100x over Most beautiful bird to watch thru out the spring and summer . I built two 18 apartment boxes . I enjoyed them for 11 years . Then for some odd reason they never returned . Maybe a storm wiped them out ??? A neighbor told me boys were shooting them with BB guns down by the creek ?? I never caught them doing that . Ive watched countless times on u tube , other enthusest doing their thing . I even took 2 huge oak trees down , for various reasons , maybe hoping to bring them back , but to no avail . Im 74+ yrs now and would give anything to have them again . I want to put up a ring of gourds and a couple small houses ?? Not wanting to invest with no results . I have fond memories during those yrs God blessed me and my family . Our 5 children still remember them as well . We have 12 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter They'll never get to view grandpa Ricki's martins 😪 If martins are in Heaven , lm signing up to care for them Keep up the good work so other's can enjoy . Blessings from Lyndon , Ky
Thank you for your comments Rick, I really appreciate them! I also lost my colony too, 10 days of cold temperatures with cold rain and heavy snow 5 years ago give them no chance to survive. I'm still hoping.... have a good day Carol Arcand
Rick, do you use predator guards baffles to keep off snakes and raccoons. I lost my colony in 2006, I didn't use them, I do now here in middle Tennessee. I when 15 years without them, then last year May 5th a male adult came in, week later female. Successfully raise two babies this year 2022 I have a pair also nesting.
@@jameslomenzo1139 No sir l didn't . Never had a problem with snakes that l know of . I'm going to on the pole lm buying , 12 vertical gourds with a ratchet raising unit . My fever is up .
@@ricknally8730 that's so great to hear you're getting back into it. They love gourds, I started hosting purple martins in 1994. I sure hope you get your colony back. Wonderful birds to have around.
I know that feeling . Next year l'll be ready for martin's . My fever's been up for a couple of year's . Had to get some tree trimming done . I'd love to take that big oak down , but my wife is having a fit . 😂 So as my neighbor . She's a free freak . I love in Lyndon , Ky . How about you . I visited a place yesterday about 7-8 miles from home. He's got 162 pair of martins . Most on gourds , an apartment too . That's 324 birds . What a sight . Music to my ears 😊 Im praying some find their way over to my place . Happy birding . I'm 75 , not sure how many more yrs are on the calendar for me . Im signing up to working with other's to build and erect purple martin house's 😉
I have been researching PM in preparation for building a 20 cavity nest box. I learned so, so much from this video. Thank you for posting it. Now to get building!
With their oaks , little bit at at a time . They don't need much like a barn swallow does . I'm going to spend money on a 12 gourd setup . Praying God will bless me again . I've lived in this house for 54 yrs , had birds for 11 years . Built 2 18 apartment houses . Had them tome of my life . Then one yr they never returned . Talk about broken hearted . Got my adrenaline flowing . Retired , trying to bring them back 🙏🙏. Not sure lm building one again or buying a unit of 12 gourds with a ratchet lifting and lowering pole .
Thank you 100x over

Great video !
How do they transport mud?
Tiny shovels
They also pick up mud with their mouth same as they do twigs, straw and grass for their nest
Thanks!
