  • Botanical and plant-based inkmaking are in my latest online course and you can find it here:
    kelly-s-school...
    This course covers an array of ink-making basics: how to make four plant-based inks: walnut hull, tea, avocado pits, and yellow or purple onion skins. This is followed by a section with ideas about how to use your homemade botanical inks in a variety of techniques including abstracts (today's TH-cam video!), mark making with materials foraged in nature, and mixed media ink essentials.
    I have made the price of this course low ($15 USD) in order to make it available to more viewers in all budgets. I also hope that you will enroll as a way of supporting this channel and its free content.
    Please let me know if you have any questions about ink making or about using ink in any of the abstract techniques in today's post.

      Hey hey, Robyn. I hope you make beautiful stuff. I am so in love with the yellow onion ink. It is crazy rich and like copper mustard and can be used straight or put in a wash. I am using it to learn to make portraits in ink - not very good ones but I am playing around with them anyway. 😁😁

    Love these abstract ink paintings. Also love the inks. Wish I had watched the video on how to make these inks.

    The ink colors are beautiful and you have given us lots of ways to use them. You are right the big ones are good enough to frame. Thanks! Again for a Great video.

      Thank you, Nola. I am bit behind on posting videos as husband got Covid and thankfully he has recovered but there were about ten days of some serious nursing and not much else got done. Back now! Kelly 🌷🌼🌻

      @@BookandPaperArts Sorry to hear about hubby. Covid is a nasty thing. I am a longhauler, had it Jan 2021 and still have side affects. My short term memory is terrible, still have significant hair loss, and often times I feel exhausted. Hope your husband makes a full recovery ❤️‍🩹.

      @@NolaTheAlamoChiliQueen Oh no! This sounds awful. Is there some treatment or help for the long version? (Actually the symptoms sound like my post-menopausal state but more so.) I hope you are able to sit or lie when you are exhausted and read or sketch, even just doodling. Take good care of yourself. Kelly

    Kelly, every one of these inky drop pieces are so fun! Love the differences in browns. The round earlier ones you did first, reminded me of the view, looking through a microscope! I will check out the info about this class below. Thanks so much for all of your insight and knowledge.

    Loved it, Kelly! I use the alcohol technique a lot, but it’s always so nice to see how other artists do it and I love the colours you used, they look like gemstones 💎✨. Great video with great ideas! Thanks for sharing 💙💛❤️💜💗🧡💚♥️🖤

    Lovely inks and techniques! Very inspiring! You mention you are using smooth paper…is it mixed media paper or hot press watercolor or something else?

    • @BookandPaperArts
      @BookandPaperArts  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Robin, I am using a hot press watercolour paper but it will work with a mixed media paper, too. Probably not a sketchpad weight, thought. Any paper you have that stands up to liquid media will be fine.

    Great video and presentation of your reasons for not doing a patreon Kelly! Can you use beets to make ink? My hubby thought he was planting radishes this year but nope...those are beets! Lol

    • @BookandPaperArts
      @BookandPaperArts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Laurie. I haven't tried but it is my understanding that beets (weirdly) don't work great because the colour is not colourfast. Believe me the chemistry behind all this is curious and interesting, what I know of it. How about making an old-fashioned borscht (doesn't have to be sweet - I have had some that are quite savoury) and freeze? Or give away in cute jars as gifts? Kelly

      Hiya, Cheryl. The thing is I shut down my online classes for the new year to make time for making original art but kept the journal course due to demand. BUT - I am going to be teaching the inks in upcoming TH-cam videos so stay tuned (I'll try to nudge you as and when).

      @@BookandPaperArts hey Kelly - I just now saw this reply…(6/15/24). I’m so happy to know you’ll be resurrecting these ink techniques in tutorial form. I’m happy to pay for a class too, I’m sure you’ll think what I’m about to say is bizarre…..but…..I love your handwriting in your journals. The way you form your “g” s. Love it. Self taught ? Technique?? Can I learn how to hand letter like you do ?? It’s something I’d love to be able to do…..😘
