One major oversight that no one seems to be talking about is Anthony Barry, Tuchel’s assistant. Ireland tried-and unfortunately from my perspective failed-to secure him. Barry is a rising star in coaching, having learned under Tuchel and worked with Roberto Martinez on both Belgium's and Portugal's coaching teams. Now, he's joined under Tuchel, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up as Southgate’s long-term successor. This is a brilliant move by the FA.
Nobody rated Southgate before he took the job and we came as close as we ever did since 1966. To be fair he was lucky with draws etc. but at the same time it does show it doesn't necessarily need to be the 'winning' foreign manager. Both Potter and Howe are improvements on Southgate on paper, so why not one of them?
