Thank you for this. My schedule is so busy, I work long nights and sleep very few hours. This makes up for all of it. A glass of wine or a joint and I can go for a couple hours listening to these beautiful pieces of art. Thank you again, you don’t know how much my mental health needs this. ❤️🤝

Can't believe I'm listening to this History of London just for the entertainment of it! I'm not even living in London (though I have in the past), nor am I British! It's just that interesting and very well read!

@ 11:26 Besant writes that, 'the Cornish (dialect) of the Brithonic tongue "is now extinct." '
Perhaps "extinct" was being used differently, or he was locked away in his ivory tower of Academe--- but I'm pretty sure there were native Cornish speakers a hundred and fifty years ago.

I'm sure I remember reading that the last native-born speaker of the Cornish language died in the 1790s.

Brutus is famous in a little town in south devon , called totnes ,, he is known to have killed giants just outside of the town and is also known in cornwall , he later went on to become and be known to be the founder of london , the first real king , sadly the powers to be dont tell you about the real history of britain , only the version they want you to know.

It's a baroque and seemingly exotic facade over a seedy dump of a place and expensive a right tourist trap to boot.
      Paris is better.

The narrator sounds like a train station announcer, fortunately Ms Golding is not as bad as the usual standard of Librivox narrators but still it's far too monotone to take in the information without zoning out as if you're listening to a robotic voice giving the shipping forecast. The In Our Time podcasts are better in terms of keeping the listeners attention but lack content at times.

I love her softly lilting voice and precise RP enunciation. particularly for a subject like the capital of the British Empire and its Origins. Yes I suppose if you listen for hours that you could be lulled into a peaceful slumber because of the smoothness and steadiness of the delivery but that's by no means a fault! I wouldn't want someone screaming or putting in unnecessary dramatic components in what is essentially a very long history lesson. And as an American by birth I would not want to hear this read by a nasally Midwesterner nor twangy Southerner nor especially a broguish northeasterner. This Posh British accent is absolutely perfect for this subject.

Ever since I pitched my telly these audiobooks have replaced golf or soccer as background for my Sunday afternoon naps. Pretty soon I'm going to know the complete history of everything.
