- ➳ The infamous question, "what dog is right for me?" Well let's see if the Australian Shepherd/ Mini Australian Shepherd/ Mini American Shepherd is right for you!
I give a brief story about myself so that maybe you can relate to the lifestyle that I live and better match up with this breed. As I have always said, I am not a trainer, and I am not here to tell you to not get a dog or to get a dog. I just hope that you do your part in doing the research so you know that you can give your pup their best life.

I have a 2 year old mini aussie and it's the best decision I've ever made. They're by far the most intelligent dogs I've ever seen or been around. Her love for my wife and I is unreal
They are the best. Loyal, loving, and very pleasing! So smart. I had to spell walk and eventually she recognized that. She recognized my kids names, and they would play hide and she would seek them....she was the best. She is gone, my red merle, but I truly loved her.

Your videos, Frankie and Joey, are always so wonderful. You have fantastic storytelling skills, Joey. I loved how you stated you have to let a working dog do more than work. They need mental stimulation.
I often hear so many statements from people, who say they want a Samoyed to cuddle with. I giggled when you said that if you’re looking for that, a Mini-Aussie isn’t the right breed. My Yeti, is the exact same way. He barks, because he wants to play, use his brain, work. When you try to cuddle him, he squirms out faster than a greasy pig.
I really love your channel! Love everything you do with it, Joey. Love the awareness you’re bringing to your breed and the needed education for potential owners of working breed dogs. Working breeds, are wonderful and they take owners willing to do what’s best for their pups.
Say hi to Frankie. Give him a good ear and belly rub. once he’s exhausted from all the playtime and mental stimulation.

I've said it before but it was your channel that helped cement the idea in my head that I needed one of these dogs too. They are NOT for everyone! I grew up with German Shepherds and have had a couple of Golden Retrievers too. Yes, they are all dogs, but there is definitely a difference between breeds, even of relatively the same size. My girl, Penny, goes to work with me every day. A GSD would likely be too big to take where she goes routinely, and my Goldens were great, loyal and loving dogs, but didn't have the energy level and drive that I needed to feel "engaged". If you have the time, patience and energy levels for an Aussie, they are an awesome breed.

Joe, I care about you! I watch ALL your videos I have a 1 year old and am so grateful that you have helped reinforce the lessons I have studied. He has a best bud, a 4 year old Golden Retriever. I have a half acre backyard and an enormous walking trail leading to an open field. Been watching Cesar Milan and continue to train Petey. Reps and new tasks always stimulates him and playtime can involve chasing a golf frisbee rather then jumping too high at this young age. I am getting another mini next month from a great breeder Spanky who because of you I will also call him Spanks. Thank you Joe and am proud of you and so grateful for you videos!
I hadn't heard of Australian Shepherds until I met my sweet little Sam. He's an 8 month old full size Aussie and I adore him. We moved from Ottawa to PEI several years ago. I bet Frankie and Indie would love to explore the Island! Thanks so much for all your beautiful posts, I am learning quite a bit 💖 Stay healthy and safe.
We were actually planning on going to the east coast with the dogs last summer but the pandemic was standing in our way. One day we will make it out there!

I just recently found your channel after wanting to do more research into Australian Shepherds. I will be looking into getting one in 1-2 years when I have moved into my own place. I can't help but do all the research I can. Your videos and seeing how you interact with Frankie through training and daily life has been a great help to getting a better understanding into this breed.
They are great, but they do need a lot of stimulation. Brain games are your friend invest in some puzzle toys or kongs. I freeze his breakfast in a kong and it gives him something to do while I drink coffee and wake up. Then we do training and a walk after Im human again lol
@@mythirlmaiden Thanks for your advice! I'm a high energy person and love their energy. I've started prepping for early morning wake ups to get my future aussie exercise in the morning. I lived with a border collie for two weeks and it was amazing to see the high intelligence in person.

This is fantastic. Our little Zoe is the best thing to happen to us. Always looking to do something useful. Hugging while we get upset waiting for our elevator which takes too long is her newest job ;) and always catching all the balls all the time!!!

As someone who yearns to get a dog in the future. I'm a junior in college and commuting from home, my parents won't allow me to get a dog. I find your videos inspiring, motivational, and just makes me want one even more. BTW, I ideally would get a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. I only wish your videos were longer.

Hi Joey! I just got my mini aussie and love your channel! Can you talk more about "jobs" and maybe give us some ideas for how to change it up day by day? I love walking and running and playing with my Maggie but would love some more ideas to keep her stimulated
Aussies are great, I got mine on january 1st of this year and he's been a joy. He always wants to work and please and is incredibly loyal to me. You are right that they arent a breed for those not willing to work with them, Im not as active a person and my job takes me out of the house but he gets tons of brain games daily with several training sessions to work his mind and a long walk or hike daily for his body but if I didn't do that and work to keep him occupied he would tear apart the house Im sure. They definitely arent for everyone.

Great video. We are in Wisconsin so its reassuring that others brave the cold and snow for outings. We have an 8mo female GSP and have been considering getting another dog and thought a mini aussie may be a good fit since they can be active together. But....I'm not sure if it would be too much for me to handle with both haha. Meanwhile still considering it...love the breed.

I like Aussies and Golden retrievers. I will definitely get a Aussie when I get older because I think a Golden Retriever fits my life style more. I will probably get a Golden retriever in a couple of months.
can you give me some ideas of what jobs i can do for my aussie? I do walk him up to 2 hours a day, ( dog park included, ) play fetch with him for 30 minutes or more a day at home, i also do small bits of training here and there, but do you think more is needed? What do you do when you have to work at the computer for 3-4 hours? any reccomendations? I am spending so much time with my dog atm that i am hardly getting time to myself to do the study that i need to do without feeling guilty i am not giving my dog enough attention.

Honestly, he loves filming! Everytime i get the camera out, he gets ready. He loves frisbee and he loves going and running errands with me and getting groceries and sending out mail

How i can get one ??
Do you take Frankie on runs? If so, how far can he run? I read that Mini's can only do about 2-3 km. Is this your experience?
The max we have ever done is 8km and he seems fine but I only do that if we are trail running, on grass or on snow.
Is Frankie cuddle and affectionate because my Aussie has never cuddled with me and enjoys sleeping alone?
Frankie loves his alone time! He only cuddles if he is just entirely exhausted
