You have gotten really good since the stealth heli video. I will have to try the 127s and tow. Explaining the hit box really helps! Still, it seems like the highest learning curve for helis, so thank you for putting out such great content and info!
Thanks for the compliment - I’ve worked hard on the Apache and it really paid off. I agree this is the hardest to learn, and I would love it if there was a machine gun for the pilot to help with air to air. Overall I think for me the Stealth is still the most deadly (as you saw on the vid from last month) but these are serious contenders! Do try the 127mm and TOW, it’s great!

Not sure if you know this or not (maybe it's intuitive for most people, but it wasn't for me) but when a jet is attacking you and you have 127 mm rockets, there is a little trick to aiming them. If the jet is coming at you from an above angle, aim the rockets above the jet. If it is coming up from below you, aim below the jet. The steeper the angle of the jet's attack (above or below) the more you aim above or below the jet

Uploading a older video to my other channel, I remembered something that might make your "mistake" regarding the uptime of the Apache munitions (not switching back to the 127 mm while the TOW is firing ), more forgivable. Depending on when you were first using the Apache TOW missile, the reticle used to be bugged. You could not switch back to the 127 mm and expect to hit reliably. That's because for the apache only (wasnt an issue for the Hokum), the impact zone for thr TOW was actually above the reticle, meaning you would have to aim a little below the target you wanted to hit. This means you would not be able to hit the tow while accurately firing the rockets, unless you had godlike reflexes to flick down just before the tow landed. Its not an issue anymore as it is now (mostly) fixed, but an interesting bit of trivia that might forgive your past mistake, again, depending on when you first started to use the apache Tow. Interestingly enough, the Apache tow reticle is STILL slightly bugged, and is not as accurate as the Hokkum. But for 90 percent of situations, its too insignificant to notice. You mainly notice it when you are trying to hit very narrow shots or shots from very long range.
Well I never knew that - I started playing Apache about 4 months ago. Not sure what the timeframe is for the glitch you mentioned? In any case it’s something to be mindful of today. I don’t think I’m a good enough player to have spotter the difference between Hokum and Apache…
@@timelessgamer_UK I'm not exactly sure when it was fixed. I stopped playing about 6 months ago, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't fixed by then. Once I got back it was fixed, so it could have been at any point before that. Same with the shadow nerf to all explosives

I would say find a way to mitigate the damage that the pilot can do but leave the gunner as is. I would really like to see some sort of a PIP for the missiles, mainly for long range air to air fights. What are your thoughts? Or do you have a video in the works to explain haha

👏👏👏 Congrats and welcome to the Attack chopper club! Lately I've been having moderate success with the Apache and Hokum, but most of the time I've been unfortunate enough to be paired up against really good Nightbird or Stealth choppers who focus me. If you aren't able to get two of those rockets to connect then it's over for you. That or I don't pay attention to the rail tank camping the enemy spawn. I'm really hoping that they do two things with the attack choppers, first they increase its maneuverability, currently it's very unwieldy, even the Hind's feel better to fly. And second, I would love some alternative choices for the passenger gun. The 30mm is great, but in past games then had a secondary weapon to use, like how the stealth passenger has the EMP grenade. Also it would be great if they had thermal optics for picking out those hard to see players. Great clips and tips here :)
Thanks a lot for the support as always, and I’m glad I’ve managed to get further down the path of the Apache pilot. Night birds are evil and usually when I see one, if I can’t get the first shot in I run to my back line. It’s a far safer bet to the let the wildcats deal with them than risk it. In terms of what I’d like to see I agree am with the improved agility, and I still hold that a low powered air to air cannon for the pilot would be great. In the Gunner seat and EMP as well as the 30mm would be fantastic & bring it to parity with the stealth chopper. I think something hot for the Apache could also be a second flare, that could really improve its odds. Overall though I’m glad I’ve unlocked this and have a new string to my bow of how to have fun after work :) Thanks again for all the support!
@@timelessgamer_UK think the gunner of the attack helicopter should absolutely have a secondary weapon. Perhaps a choice between a TV missile for more long range anti armor/anti air transport, or a barrage grenade launcher volley for additional anti infantry support. I think if they did that, in combination with significantly increasing the top speed (not maneuverability), the attack choppers would be in a much better place. There is no reason the super hind transport chopper (sorry "gunship") should be significantly faster than the attack helicopter. 😑. The shadow nerf to all explosive damage that occured a few months back also really hurt the attack chopper. Both the pilot's weapons, and more importantly, the gunner's 30 mm cannon are now noticably less effective against infantry than they used to be. They should also offer the option for ECM jammer for the attack heli, like they have in portal. Longer duration flares (at the cost of slower regen) could be very useful in a lot of situations. It would increase the survivability of the chopper on certain maps, as you would have more time to either stand and fight, or run for cover.
@@Jordblitz These are all solid suggestions and I really do agree on the speed. The secondary chair having an EMP would be nice too, or have the option to switch between Anti-Personnel and Anti-Armour rounds. A longer flare would be good, especially if we're not going to get more speed. All in all the skill bar for an Attack Heli pilot IMO is higher than any of the others, noting I have not yet made it to the Night Bird (mainly because I disliked being on the receiving end of them & they're just too easy to Lissile). It should have something to make it a bit more accessible like speed & extra utility.
@@timelessgamer_UK yes I agree lol. It's very stressful to be in the stealth heli or night bird, knowing you can be lized in one shot...... Although for console players like myself, the ability to splash damage infantry is very important, because it's very difficult to reliably get kills with the machine guns. I've gotten better recently, but it's still much more difficult than for PC players. At least on average of course. While an EMP for the gunner seat in the attack choppers would be fantastic, I feel like I would want Dice to get a little creative, and make the attack heli different than the stealth heli. Where the stealth heli uses more futuristic tech, the attack heli could be a damage machine. Idk, the emp would still be a very effective addition.

A true believer. @7:25 Also make sure your squad mates are fully alive before doing this. If they're dead and can spawn, they will spawn in as pilot and kill you both immediately. Took me 4 months of casual play to actually get to that level of Apache in this vid. You’ll get there, just keep picking it and the magic will happen. Have you tried the stealth chopper? Wow what a super informative and useful guide. I learned a lot and will certainly give this vehicle another try. Do you think the super hokum is worth switching off the 30mm for the 127mm rockets?
Thanks for the feedback, really glad you found it useful! Ok so here’s my take - the 30mm gives you the edge in air to air fights, but you lose the ability to do crazy “burst” damage the 127mm gives you paired with the TOW missile. The secret hot sauce to the Apache / Hokum is the ability to surge & completely overwhelm the health bar of any vehicle. A single 127mm connecting with a light aircraft will do 60% damage, two is a kill. Personally the advice I would give, and the advice I followed myself, is to invest in getting your eye in with the 127mm for air to air fights. Honestly whether you’ve got the 30mm or not if a Nightbird gets above you, you’re dead. Head to head or shooting down you’ve got a really good chance with the 127mm. I won’t lie to you - it took me a long time to find the secret to landing 127mm shots. I’ve tried to share what I learnt, and I wish you luck. If you invest the time, I think you’ll be a lot happier with the 127mm rockets.
Nice to see you growing, the Apache was the last attack Heli for me to get good in despite me playing from launch but one day in air superiority I couldn't get a nightbird (which I rule in) or a stealth Heli (which I don't quite rule but top tier ish) so I went for the Apache with the 127s and wow, fell in love it's great against everything and the only things I find extremely challenging to fight are good nightbird pilots and any moron in a wildcat. However I still learned from your video I usually use agms or sometimes air heatseekers if it's air superiority but I'm deffo gonna try the TOW now ggs dude so glad I subbed to you

Thanks as ever! This really wasn’t meant to be a guide as I don’t think I’m there yet with the Apache - it was more to show what’s possible after a bit of practice. Like many others I’ve always written them off as neglected / redundant after Season 1 and the Stealth Chopper’s arrival. However - I was wrong, and if Dice can rebalance things then game on, maybe they can make a comeback!

It is a lot harder than the others to get results with but once you get that “burst” approach down & get your eye in for the range, these things are bloody lethal. I’d still avoid an air to air fight if I could, but usually clipping a Nightbird is enough to make them run. Getting them to back off is a win in my book. Thanks for the kind words, I like making vids where I can showcase what regulars like me can do with the game - we don’t all have to be Silk getting 100 kill streaks. There’s an abundance of fun to be had at any level once you get the hang of them!
What are your tips for avoiding shoulder -fired rockets? I seem to remember being able to survive one hit but nowadays, that's my main source of death, second to little birds, then wildcats.
Truth is if a player pulls off a good shot with an unguided ‘dumb fire’ rocket, there’s nothing to be done. They cannot be intercepted and damn they’re fast. Players carrying them tend to be near objectives so don’t get too low over them. The other best defence is to always be moving. Try not to stop & turn right above populated areas, especially when low. Think that’s why Nightbirds get hit so often. I don’t believe a Nightbird or Stealth can survive an RPG / M5 hit but an Attack Chopper can. The little guys can survive a Stinger hit. On the Stealth, always have flare, don’t take repair. Last thing really is to just be prepared to back well away when you’re locked on to and forced to flare. It’s really annoying when Stingers are all over the place but that’s just how it is. Need to play hit & run / popping in and out of cover. Easier said than done sometimes! Hope that helped - no silver bullet I’m afraid and sometimes luck is just against you. Even an AI can M5 smash you from a mile away - it happens!!

You’re going to love the next vid - the Bolte is deeply underrated! If your D.Va needs to apologise to anyone it’s my Pharah. Might as well have “free kill” written on me. Rein just has my heart, he’s such a great character. I play Mei and 76 for DPS. I’m Plat / Gold / Gold. I don’t play competitive anymore as it stopped being fun (salty players & not a good place to be solo queuing). Now I really enjoy quick play and Mystery Heroes.
Bitter painful experience and a lot of trial and error! There's no HUD display or anything which will tell you you're at the point where your missiles will / will not converge, you just have to know... it's the same as with the Nightbird miniguns. Too close, and the bullets don't go where you think they will. A good trick if you're struggling is to go into single player mode and just fire off at a rock / building / anything to get your eye in on the range. Once you've got it, you've got it. What key-binds do you use to fly. I feel like im not maneuverable on mouse but imprecise on arrow keys. Also tried controller and that has been working but the aiming could be better...

Choppers bring a lot to the game and I think the skill to down them is pretty evenly matched with the skill to fly them. Lis is fantastic but she needs a lot of work and a strong pilot can dodge / build movement into their game and make it hard. The only time I feel truly guilty (as I showed in my last vid) is when I Rail gun one out of the sky from the other side of the map. There’s no way they could have known I was there. It just feels a bit… unfair. But I never regret a good Lis shot, or winning an air to air duel!

@@timelessgamer_UK do you have any advice for nightbird vs nightbird duels? I try to stay above but I often vs really good pilots and they just fly around below me trying to avoid me and I can never get a shot off. Then sometimes they just kill me from below and I don't know what to do.
Being completely honest I don’t have a lot for you re: Nightbird as I’ve not made it there yet. I do fly stealth & fight them occasionally though. It’s hard to advise someone how to fly but staying above them is best imo and with the night bird, the pilots are very vulnerable to 25mm machine gun fire. You can see me going after one in the air to air section of my Stealth video to see what I mean, drilling the pilot is a good strategy. I wish I had more for you - I tend to avoid nightbirds unless I’ve got the clear drop on them / a gunner alongside me. I usually only hunt them when playing Lis on foot. Sorry I don’t have more for you!!

Wildcats are the answer to choppers of any description, always dangerous and that’s the way it should be. A Heli left alone will absolutely melt, that’s why I rate Lis so highly. You may not be top of the score board but you’re the hero the team needs.
My biggest problem is being surprised by a nightbird or especially a stealth chopper. Any advice on landing tow missiles on aircraft facing you and pursuing you and you are in a losing battle? I've seen amazing players land crazy tow missiles on such small airborne targets and idk how they do it

Yeah they work but I find the problem is the Apache can’t hang around long enough to get the kill. It works with Stealth because you have the bombs then an AGM sees a tank off nicely, but hovering around for 2 or 3 AGMs is a big ask. I’m usually hard countered by then. Try out the TOW, it’s worth it!

I’m a massive fan of Dan’s channel and take a lot of inspiration from it. I like watching people who actually like the game & help me get better.
👏👏👏 Congrats and welcome to the Attack chopper club! Lately I've been having moderate success with the Apache and Hokum, but most of the time I've been unfortunate enough to be paired up against really good Nightbird or Stealth choppers who focus me. If you aren't able to get two of those rockets to connect then it's over for you. That or I don't pay attention to the rail tank camping the enemy spawn. I'm really hoping that they do two things with the attack choppers, first they increase its maneuverability, currently it's very unwieldy, even the Hind's feel better to fly. And second, I would love some alternative choices for the passenger gun. The 30mm is great, but in past games then had a secondary weapon to use, like how the stealth passenger has the EMP grenade. Also it would be great if they had thermal optics for picking out those hard to see players.

Thanks a lot for the support as always, and I’m glad I’ve managed to get further down the path of the Apache pilot. Night birds are evil and usually when I see one, if I can’t get the first shot in I run to my back line. It’s a far safer bet to the let the wildcats deal with them than risk it.
In terms of what I’d like to see I agree am with the improved agility, and I still hold that a low powered air to air cannon for the pilot would be great. In the Gunner seat and EMP as well as the 30mm would be fantastic & bring it to parity with the stealth chopper. I think something hot for the Apache could also be a second flare, that could really improve its odds.
Overall though I’m glad I’ve unlocked this and have a new string to my bow of how to have fun after work :)

@@timelessgamer_UK think the gunner of the attack helicopter should absolutely have a secondary weapon. Perhaps a choice between a TV missile for more long range anti armor/anti air transport, or a barrage grenade launcher volley for additional anti infantry support. I think if they did that, in combination with significantly increasing the top speed (not maneuverability), the attack choppers would be in a much better place.
There is no reason the super hind transport chopper (sorry "gunship") should be significantly faster than the attack helicopter. 😑.
The shadow nerf to all explosive damage that occured a few months back also really hurt the attack chopper. Both the pilot's weapons, and more importantly, the gunner's 30 mm cannon are now noticably less effective against infantry than they used to be.
They should also offer the option for ECM jammer for the attack heli, like they have in portal. Longer duration flares (at the cost of slower regen) could be very useful in a lot of situations. It would increase the survivability of the chopper on certain maps, as you would have more time to either stand and fight, or run for cover.
@@Jordblitz These are all solid suggestions and I really do agree on the speed. The secondary chair having an EMP would be nice too, or have the option to switch between Anti-Personnel and Anti-Armour rounds. A longer flare would be good, especially if we're not going to get more speed. All in all the skill bar for an Attack Heli pilot IMO is higher than any of the others, noting I have not yet made it to the Night Bird (mainly because I disliked being on the receiving end of them & they're just too easy to Lissile). It should have something to make it a bit more accessible like speed & extra utility.
@@timelessgamer_UK yes I agree lol. It's very stressful to be in the stealth heli or night bird, knowing you can be lized in one shot...... Although for console players like myself, the ability to splash damage infantry is very important, because it's very difficult to reliably get kills with the machine guns. I've gotten better recently, but it's still much more difficult than for PC players. At least on average of course.
While an EMP for the gunner seat in the attack choppers would be fantastic, I feel like I would want Dice to get a little creative, and make the attack heli different than the stealth heli. Where the stealth heli uses more futuristic tech, the attack heli could be a damage machine. Idk, the emp would still be a very effective addition.

@7:25 Also make sure your squad mates are fully alive before doing this. If they're dead and can spawn, they will spawn in as pilot and kill you both immediately. They won't jump out if they don't know what they're doing, they'll just kill you both.

Took me 4 months of casual play to actually get to that level of Apache in this vid. You’ll get there, just keep picking it and the magic will happen. Have you tried the stealth chopper? They play very differently. Night bird is different again - impressed with the variety in this category!

Ok so here’s my take - the 30mm gives you the edge in air to air fights, but you lose the ability to do crazy “burst” damage the 127mm gives you paired with the TOW missile. The secret hot sauce to the Apache / Hokum is the ability to surge & completely overwhelm the health bar of any vehicle. A single 127mm connecting with a light aircraft will do 60% damage, two is a kill. Personally the advice I would give, and the advice I followed myself, is to invest in getting your eye in with the 127mm for air to air fights. Honestly whether you’ve got the 30mm or not if a Nightbird gets above you, you’re dead. Head to head or shooting down you’ve got a really good chance with the 127mm.
I won’t lie to you - it took me a long time to find the secret to landing 127mm shots. I’ve tried to share what I learnt, and I wish you luck. If you invest the time, I think you’ll be a lot happier with the 127mm rockets.
Nice to see you growing, the Apache was the last attack Heli for me to get good in despite me playing from launch but one day in air superiority I couldn't get a nightbird (which I rule in) or a stealth Heli (which I don't quite rule but top tier ish) so I went for the Apache with the 127s and wow, fell in love it's great against everything and the only things I find extremely challenging to fight are good nightbird pilots and any moron in a wildcat. However I still learned from your video I usually use agms or sometimes air heatseekers if it's air superiority but I'm deffo gonna try the TOW now ggs dude so glad I subbed to you

Thanks as ever! This really wasn’t meant to be a guide as I don’t think I’m there yet with the Apache - it was more to show what’s possible after a bit of practice. Like many others I’ve always written them off as neglected / redundant after Season 1 and the Stealth Chopper’s arrival. However - I was wrong, and if Dice can rebalance things then game on, maybe they can make a comeback!

Mastering the Apache takes time and this is a great tutorial or class to learn from
It is a lot harder than the others to get results with but once you get that “burst” approach down & get your eye in for the range, these things are bloody lethal. I’d still avoid an air to air fight if I could, but usually clipping a Nightbird is enough to make them run. Getting them to back off is a win in my book. Thanks for the kind words, I like making vids where I can showcase what regulars like me can do with the game - we don’t all have to be Silk getting 100 kill streaks. There’s an abundance of fun to be had at any level once you get the hang of them!

What are your tips for avoiding shoulder -fired rockets? I seem to remember being able to survive one hit but nowadays, that's my main source of death, second to little birds, then wildcats.
Truth is if a player pulls off a good shot with an unguided ‘dumb fire’ rocket, there’s nothing to be done. They cannot be intercepted and damn they’re fast. See the opening of my vid here : th-cam.com/video/tZl36o9Llf8/w-d-xo.html
There’s a lot more hits lately I think because many people (‘myself included) wanted to play with the RPG. Players carrying them tend to be near objectives so don’t get too low over them. The other best defence is to always be moving. Try not to stop & turn right above populated areas, especially when low. Think that’s why Nightbirds get hit so often. I don’t believe a Nightbird or Stealth can survive an RPG / M5 hit but an Attack Chopper can. The little guys can survive a Stinger hit. On the Stealth, always have flare, don’t take repair.
Last thing really is to just be prepared to back well away when you’re locked on to and forced to flare. It’s really annoying when Stingers are all over the place but that’s just how it is. Need to play hit & run / popping in and out of cover. Easier said than done sometimes!
Hope that helped - no silver bullet I’m afraid and sometimes luck is just against you. Even an AI can M5 smash you from a mile away - it happens!!

I’m glad you’re liking this channel as well though! I really do enjoy BF2042 and whilst it’s not perfect I think it takes way too much heat. I really can’t think of a more entertaining, varied gameplay franchise as BF. I give a lot of credit to what the Devs have done since Season 1, and yeah - I really hope they continue to invest in it for Year 2.

I agree with all that, I like a lot of games that had a rough launch, like fallout:76 even haha. It's always a tough thing to shake, I think that's what killed battlefront 2 and bfV, I hope this game keeps getting supported too.

If your D.Va needs to apologise to anyone it’s my Pharah. Might as well have “free kill” written on me. Rein just has my heart, he’s such a great character. I play Mei and 76 for DPS. I’m Plat / Gold / Gold. I don’t play competitive anymore as it stopped being fun (salty players & not a good place to be solo queuing). Now I really enjoy quick play and Mystery Heroes.

Bitter painful experience and a lot of trial and error! There's no HUD display or anything which will tell you you're at the point where your missiles will / will not converge, you just have to know... it's the same as with the Nightbird miniguns. Too close, and the bullets don't go where you think they will. A good trick if you're struggling is to go into single player mode and just fire off at a rock / building / anything to get your eye in on the range. Once you've got it, you've got it.

You could also reorient the gun back to the front before you jump back to the pilot seat so you don't have to do it when you're under pressure.

What key-binds do you use to fly. I feel like im not maneuverable on mouse but imprecise on arrow keys. Also tried controller and that has been working but the aiming could be better...

Its always a sweet to get down an helicopter on BF. But i have respect for the good pilot because its very hard to be very good at it.
Choppers bring a lot to the game and I think the skill to down them is pretty evenly matched with the skill to fly them. Lis is fantastic but she needs a lot of work and a strong pilot can dodge / build movement into their game and make it hard. The only time I feel truly guilty (as I showed in my last vid) is when I Rail gun one out of the sky from the other side of the map. There’s no way they could have known I was there. It just feels a bit… unfair.
But I never regret a good Lis shot, or winning an air to air duel!

@@timelessgamer_UK do you have any advice for nightbird vs nightbird duels? I try to stay above but I often vs really good pilots and they just fly around below me trying to avoid me and I can never get a shot off. Then sometimes they just kill me from below and I don't know what to do.
Being completely honest I don’t have a lot for you re: Nightbird as I’ve not made it there yet. I do fly stealth & fight them occasionally though. It’s hard to advise someone how to fly but staying above them is best imo and with the night bird, the pilots are very vulnerable to 25mm machine gun fire. You can see me going after one in the air to air section of my Stealth video to see what I mean, drilling the pilot is a good strategy.
I wish I had more for you - I tend to avoid nightbirds unless I’ve got the clear drop on them / a gunner alongside me. I usually only hunt them when playing Lis on foot.

The one map with a cram makes me hate choppers bec it melts u and as for the wild cat in it's own catagory it's not that bad now that it's love
Wildcats are the answer to choppers of any description, always dangerous and that’s the way it should be. A Heli left alone will absolutely melt, that’s why I rate Lis so highly. You may not be top of the score board but you’re the hero the team needs.
My biggest problem is being surprised by a nightbird or especially a stealth chopper. Any advice on landing tow missiles on aircraft facing you and pursuing you and you are in a losing battle? I've seen amazing players land crazy tow missiles on such small airborne targets and idk how they do it

Yeah they work but I find the problem is the Apache can’t hang around long enough to get the kill. It works with Stealth because you have the bombs then an AGM sees a tank off nicely, but hovering around for 2 or 3 AGMs is a big ask. I’m usually hard countered by then. Try out the TOW, it’s worth it!
