In San diego homeless is biggest growing industry to the point the colleges now have classes on starting your own non profit to assist homeless. Of course the way that works is government gives you a couple million to work with, your the ceo at 200k, then you buy some socks underwear and bottles of water to hand put, then you throw a dinner at a fancy reception in Vegas or nyc olwith other non profits enjoy that vacation, then you give 700k to other non profits, who also give 790k k to your non profit, everyone passes the money around and 1 dollar of every 100 bucks goes to a homeless person

I live in a small van (transit connect) in the UK and some big van dwellers think im crazy.
All of the vehicles have something i'll add to my own setup, so thankyou for the video and to those who featured!
For anyone who doesn't understand the minset: it's about living *from* the vehicle and exploring, not living *in* it.

I love these videos, I took my first stay in a rented Prius recently, and the first night was so scary, but the second...I got it. First night sucked because I was all alone in the back section of a Walmart lot. The second night, I was in a 24 hour fitness place, with lots of traffic, and clearly several other vehicle dwellers; a Highlander with a sunshade, a couple white vans, and even an 80s rv! And the place was part of a big sprawling shopping complex, so it felt a lot more like I was able to blend in. I also had my Dollar Tree black shower curtain liner up on the parking lot side of the car, with the road side of the car open with just the limo tints. It felt like a normal room, instead of a little glass box.
I slept for 12 hours that second night lol. I woke up feeling amazing - the AC was set just right, I was very comfortable on the (admittedly not at all ideal) air mattress and sleeping bag, and...I don't know, it just felt right. And it felt so much better being in a safe place with other people. Clearly it was a safe spot because I'm pretty sure I was so exhausted from getting barely 3 hours the night before, that I left my headlights on!
Even with idling the whole night, I averaged 40mpg that trip, only 20 worse than using it only as a car.
I'm now looking for my own Prius so I can go cross country, with my dog. I remember when my guy was alive and strong, years ago, he would have probably beheaded anyone who broke my window, if I let him. I now see how people handle this lifestyle. The first night was frightening but once the cherry is popped, it stays that way I guess.
It also helped that it was a very new Prius, 2020, in a nice color with limo tints. It looked VERY much like a normal car while it was parked, which made me feel a lot safer too.
I'm rambling but thanks for making these videos and giving me the courage and the inspiration to go out and try it. I'm going to see if I can get my sedan to a place where it's livable for days at a time for trips, until I can get a newer Prius.

On balance, I think it is best to only have one seat for a solo camper in a car. Seats take up a lot of volume and weight for very little return, and it is better for fuel economy and safety if you keep a low centre of gravity and well within the safety limits for weight. Some station wagons have really good flat surfaces which are excellent for a bed base, but cars, not so much. So if most of your junk is under the bed, or in foot wells it is a lot safer because of less possibility of stuff flying around when you have to do an emergency stop. But obviously I am not dictating what people should do. If it suits you, it suits you.
Obviously, you have to have the basic necessities of life: a comfortable bed, cooking, storage and somewhere to wash and go to the bathroom in the car, if only for emergencies, and occasionally, we all have them.
For more "luxury" items, it is nice to have a "living room/office" area, and it makes sense, in such a small volume, to have it relatively uncluttered to give the impression of roominess. And at least dual purpose for almost everything. Obviously access to gyms mean showers, etc, which can often be available for daily routines.
If given the choice, I would do aluminium framing rather than using wood. It is stronger for less weight, but obviously not easy to do on a very limited budget. But if it is going to be your permanent home, then it is probably worth the investment if you can make it happen.
A portable fridge is a "must" luxury item. A cool drink or fresh produce can put more variety and taste into a diet. Long life milk, dry foods or cans can get pretty "old" quickly, and can make things seem a bit more like survival than thriving. At least for me. "Raw" foods are much cheaper than most processed foods, even with cooking taken into account.
I am an omnivore, but there are good vegan burger "meats' out there, and add some cool fresh salad [lettuce, tomato, cucumber, etc] is really quick to prepare, and can be a good healthy feed.
Organisation is everything, IMHO. Getting frustrated by having to move things around, wasting time looking for a misplaced item can get old very quickly, and can distract from fully enjoying your time on the road or camping.

All of these folks have risen to the challenge of "how am I going to do this?" with creativity & ingenuity.
The platform w/storage underneath (the mini van?) is sorta' classic, and the design I adopted for my SUV. I sleep inside mine only if it's a 1 nighter - it's a pain to do so. I did not factor in how much of a pain in the rear rearranging everything was going to be. I need to downsize some things and reorg.

So many great gadgets and ideas. I've scaled down from a campervan to a car and then a tent. Looking to buy a new car to live in soon. A small SUV is plenty big enough for me and will take me where big rigs and slow vans just can't go. I just want to be out in nature but also be able to get back out again 😆 I don't really want to drag a whole house everywhere I go.

One thing I haven't seen that I think is a good idea is those awnings that can become an 8'x8' room for extra space when people are camping out for 14 days. When mom passes and I can travel for the winter I think the extra room would be great to keep my DIY electric recumbent trike, the porta potty, the 12volt compressor fridge so my little van would have less stuff in it. I am disabled with a spinal cord injury so setting something up like this for a weekend might be a bit much... but for 14 days I think it would be worth it.

I love seeing people succeed through living in their car. Seeing that inspiring before and after, the strategic faint or retreat to a car life or van life in order to regroup and achieve or surpass their goals. Mom and I are minivanning today... Lot of the AirBnb treadmill at one of our several hundred summer homes now, taking in the gorgeous scenery. Meaning she is getting all the attention and supervision she needs right now while I can gradually build my entertainment business clientele without financial stress. Having a different set of snow-capped mountains in the background of every shot can't do anything but help my marketing and positioning as a touring stage hypnotist, which helps me explain to my prospects why the urgency and scarcity in my offer is real. Because I'm following the weather by necessity, I'll only be available in a certain area for a short amount of time. Since people know what a snowbird is, what a tour is, because I can always have a different and interesting background in all of my videos, I've got an amazing element of fascination for my ongoing marketing campaigns.

I like the Prius and Tesla because they can be heated and cooled during sleeping.
I have to go to the bathroom a couple of times during the night. No doubt an instructional video could be done on various strategies.
    That for the ideas.

I always love your videos! I like the more detailed videos better though. I have a dozen more questions that weren't answered for each of those vehicles. 😆 Any chance you could put a reference to a single video for each of those vehicles in the drop box? So so so many questions!

I drove a taxi and I came up with ways to go to the bathroom. It’s doable.

I really liked "45-50 mpg". Very rarely does anyone report their gas mileage, unless they are proud of it.
