    Personally I've found the burnisher very useful and have used it with watercolours and inks to create polished or metallic surfaces, like the boilers of steam locos. To say they are next to useless is a bit harsh, all artists have different styles, so inevitably it's not going to give what everyone wants.

    Oh that brick idea is wonderful. I picked up a burnisher yesterday thinking it was a white pencil (which, I suppose, it kind of is). Now I know what I can actually use it for!

    Thanks, this was really useful for a quick explanation on how to use them!
    Like a lot of other people here, the Blender is a lot more useful to me for my drawings, but I'm sure that Burnisher will come in handy some time!

    I really love the blender. Works extremely well on top of many different brands of pencil. The burnisher I'm not so fond of though as I'm not finding it quite soft enough. That's not to say that it isn't a good product (which it will be depending on your style), but for my purposes it would be good to have a softer, more waxy product to accompany the current one.

    I purchased this pack for working with colored pencils in high-end adult coloring books. I like to use the burnisher to cover the parts of the picture that I've colored in, and then I can easily add a colored background using pastels without interfering with the color of the work underneath. You can see this technique illustrated here: th-cam.com/video/-nMTlb6qduY/w-d-xo.html

    I really want to like Derwent stuff, because they are british, but most of their stuff isn't very good. Their pencils are extremly well made, but the artsist and studio compared to prisma are hard and scratchy, I know the new stuff is supposed to be better thou like Coloursoft.The same is true of the burnisher/blender, they are next to useless I am guessing that's why you can only buy them as a set of 2 each so they can get shut of them.

    • @mariajames408
      @mariajames408 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wrong. Am a mature but have found both pencils do work and do improve the pictures. The blender is useful for smoothing out pencil lines and blending colours and the burnisher gives a sheen on picture. And they are sold singly it's just cheaper to buy the pack of two.

    I have to say that I do not like the blender as it puts a shiny surface on the paper which has a white tine & makes it impossible to colour in with pastels to hide it!!! I'll stick to a cabochon thanks.

    What is the difference between your blender pencils and a paper stub for blending?

    • @derwent
      @derwent  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Linda, our Blender Pens are alcohol-based, whereas the paper stubs are made of paper. The paper stubs are best for pencils like pastel, as they have a dusty texture. The blender pens can be used for those pencils that are tougher to blend. Hope that helps. Best, Derwent

    Dommage que Derwent n'est pas prit une personne sachant dessiner!! Car la les coups de crayons partent dans tout les sens, ça déborde même, les ombres ne sont pas bonnes et concernant l'emplacement des couleurs et le choix ce n'est pas bon! De ce fait le rendu n'est pas joli, cela ne met pas du tout en valeur le produit des crayons derwent que ce soit pour le blender comme pour le burnisher.......!!! Dommage!

      So? She doesn’t have to, let’s not forget art is a form of free individual expression. If everyone did things the “right” way it would be a boring world indeed. Perhaps if her goal was photorealism that would be a great tip, but judging by the sketch (which was clearly just a quick one to demonstrate so this doesn’t really matter regardless) I don’t think that’s what she was going for.
