    Just helped a friend paint her paneling...wish we would have come here first. The sanding is a great piece f info and primer would have worked wonders. It took us 3 das because we had to keep adding layers.
    Thanks!!

    Nice 👍 video, I have a small mobile home with wood paneling throughout on the bottom third section of the walls. It is scratched up in areas and just looks completely old/dated. Painting it will be a major improvement in terms of appearance. I like how your video was short, to the point, and easy to follow.

    Good vid and info!
    I've painted several mobile homes in my park, and some people are so cheap they don't want to pay for the priming step. Once a lady said, "Oh my friend said you don't need primer, the paint has primer in it..." Famous last words. So I went with her wishes, and before I finished the third room, three days later, you could see places they hit with furniture. Oh well, I did what they wanted... but never again. From then on, I told them what I would do and if they don't want it, I won't do the job.

    I found Bullseye 1 2 3 primer at Ace Hardware that specifies that it can be used directly on glossy paneling, as well as glossy paints and even tile(!!) with no prior sanding required. It's true. I can't scratch this stuff off my paneling at all. It's so good, wiping any drips or smudges off is mandatory as soon as you notice the spills.

    • @eternallyminded7

    I also have a mobile home, with the same paneled walls....ugh! I have painted them too, but I didn’t sand first. I used a paint with primer added, and it went on easily and had no problems adhering to the paneling. The biggest problem, to me, were the many grooves that paneling has; but it really was worth the effort! The walls look great! Yours look good, too ~ you did a wonderful job on your remodel!

    I have this same horrible paneling in my entire house. I used Kilz as well but unfortunately did not see this before hand. Just FYI to anyone watching - listen to him. lol I only sanded on areas that we were filling in nail holes and it wasn't a very strong sandpaper and then I used the cheapest color paint I could find. Scratching with your nails does nothing but if furniture bumps the wall we get black smudges. At this point I don't care anymore because painting is the bane of my existence but I certainly wish I had seen this earlier. lol!

    • @CWsMama7

    Re-painted 2 trailers, both came out designer beautiful.
    My technique was to wash really well first, using Colox Bleach cleaner. Trailers are DIRTY! And that takes off a bit of finish.
    Did not sand. I agree with The Wannabee Homesteader, it would be nicer, but it was more than I could handle.
    Painted on primer, and left it 48 hours (live in a wet area), and primer takes longer to dry than paint. It looked nothing like his one coat, lots of spaces, etc.
    So I put on a 2nd coat of primer, let dry another 48 hours. By then I had a nice base.
    So then I painted in a nice wall color, flat, no shine, neutral light beige/grey, which is the "in" color of the moment. Some call it Greige. Chose your color, but go for something modern...a "designer" color ideally, ha, ha.
    Found a painter who used his Sherwin Williams account to buy me 5 gallons for the price of 1 gallon retail, and paid him the difference to help paint.
    It looks fantastic.
    Chips aren't a problem, but trailers are small space living, and I think they take more maintenance to keep up.

      @concernedbuyer8253 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Omg thank u! I HATE sanding

    • @ChristopherJones16
      @ChristopherJones16 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@concernedbuyer8253 Before you jump the gun from one person's comment.. you may want to confirm their results... if they didnt sand then even the best primer wont stick onto a smooth surface too well.. eventually it will flake off especially if you hang stuff on the wall or if you bump up against it with something.. itll chip much easier.. I just painted faux wood shelving and the lightest rubbing up against it with another hard surface chipped the paint off without even trying. Sanding is crucial. It may look good and last a long time but pray you never bump up against it with something or itll flake right off and once it flakes off that spot will just get bigger.

    Hi. Have any of you guys tried using joint compound to cover over the paneling to get a smooth effect? In theory it adds considerable time to the project but it gets rid of the paneling look without boosting the cost greatly. My wife and I are getting ready to tackle that very project in our den and we decided to keep the paneling so as to have a better light weight anchor for pictures and paintings rather than drywall by itself. Any thoughts or opinions?
