    Hey everyone! It has been almost half a year since I originally released this video. I just want to say thanks for all of the support. Also, the information about how often we gain UPT is slowly becoming outdated here towards the end of 2021 as many sites are starting to pick up the new UPT Pilot where we gain UPT each shift. I’d highly recommend checking out newer videos after this one as yes this one still holds true, but with how quickly everything changes at Amazon, it is getting more and more outdated. Thank you!
    FAQ:
    Q: What is water-spider?
    A: The definition of a water spider depends on department because a lot of departments have water spiders but for my specific department (inbound, stow) water spiders spend their day pallet jacking pallets around and feeding the work from those pallets to the stowers. It also includes throwing away the stower’s boxes and putting their used totes in the right place. It is probably the most active position in the FC that will lead to the best workout and most steps of anyone in the facility

    • @monicaokungbowa4246
      @monicaokungbowa4246 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Water spider in outbound shipping is the most walking in the whole facility. You are wrapping giant pallets and then putting the shipping labels on and move it to its spot. You can also be a water spider by moving the smaller packages pallets to their spot. You have to make the cardboard boxes and make them active too.
      There is also CPT who put the containers on the actual truck.

Just grab a scanner and go. they just cut you loose in a million square foot warehouse. My only advice is : don't overdo your breaks. If there's one thing they get sad about, it's time off task. I am soooo glad I found this video !! I am a newbie there I just joined amazon a couple days ago and it takes some time getting used to. I was so surprised how short training was and I felt like the videos given to me from their training like I wish I had more time practicing and memorizing. But mostly guys, ask. Alooooot. Of. Questions. From everyone around you. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. A lot of the times I was stuck and it felt like everyone was competing w each other and so I felt this pressure to do better but no. Everyone is in it the same. All we want to do is get the job done get your salary and move on. Or for some it could be a lifetime job. Just one last thing, apply for amazon knowing that you do aloooot of physical and mental work (mostly physical). For the most part good luck to y’all ✨

    I'm getting ready to start my 3rd week at Amazon and I have no problem hitting 220 pieces an HR with a tak time of around 11 sec. It's not as hard as people say. You are right you do get a majority of bigs. Just keep a few toats of smalls to feed the small bins a few pieces and you'll be good.

    • @C11
      @C11  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I struggle a lot with the rates. If I’m picking I’m able to do much better but yeah I’m pretty much always missing the rates in stow, I swear I get like 90% mediums and 10% smalls and it makes it soooo hard to meet the rates. When I get smalls the rates are easy to reach though, but again, I pretty much never do lol

    • @dianne8340
      @dianne8340 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Where I work most of the bins are packed, therefore it is difficult to stow. I am able to stay in the middle of the pack and other days I am ahead of the pack. It depends on the freight.
      I used to do ICQA. Now I do stow, pack and infrequently water spider and transport.
      Great tip is to be careful with that UPT. PTO is a toss up. I use PTO here and there. It is easy to put a vacation request in 24 to 48 hours in advance during non restricted dates.

    • @jason4275
      @jason4275 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      My issue is, I have no idea how many pieces I'm stowing, I try to work as fast as possible, but it would be nice if the PDA computers they give us, would show how many packages I'm scanning, plus that 11 seconds only applies to small packages, it don't mean shit when your have oversize boxes 40-60 pounds back and fourth, plus sometimes you have to go get water, so you don't pass out, I'm not working myself to passes out, I will walk off and get my water, when I get my paycheck I will get a nice clear bottle of water with a clip on.

    • @TSBilliards86
      @TSBilliards86 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Standing I'm used to, I've worked two warehouse jobs at once sometimes 16hr days so that doesn't bother me BUT u are wearing steel toe shoes which makes it different and as far as management it's a way to talk to and treat people and I'm the one to walk out before u fire me if u come off nasty.

    Another tip for the "lazy people" wanting time off, take VTO. It's usually available for every shift except the busy season. For me, the worst job is working the Non Con line. It's nothing but non stop chaos trying to keep up with the flow and neatly stacking packages on pallets.

    Manager here, in my personal experience, not all of this applies to every site, but generally speaking it holds true. The stuff about your time off is super true. Save that time for when you really need it. But the water spider stuff could be different at another site. For example, my site’s waterspiders love it and everyone is dying to do it. Also, Depending on how high performing the site is, having a high takt time or low rate could end up resulting in a write up much more easily than at an underperforming site. There really isn’t a way to know until you’re in it. If your site is pushing quality rather than productivity, you actually could end up being encouraged to slow down in order to prevent errors.

    Great video thanks. I am thinking about working at Amazon. I have a few questions. How do you get a hold of your manager while you are working at your post on the floor? Is it easy to find someone if you have a question? Are you allowed to have water/food on the floor with you? If so, is there a close by spot to refill your water bottle? Are there many bathrooms throughout the warehouse that are close to the post you are at (less than a five minute walk so it won't register as TOT or are the restrooms a long walk to get to )? My final question is if there is a bad snow storm or ice storm coming how is Amazon with you calling out if the roads are bad?
    I'm going to watch your other Amazon videos as well.
    Thanks.

    Worked there almost a year, ended up quitting. The benefits were nice, but it wasn’t worth it for the amount of pshyical activity I was doing just to get 1200 every 2 weeks. The fulfillment center I worked on was a recently built one too. Did inbound, outbound, picked, packed, loaded trucks, did everything. But the small 30 mins break, getting yelled at for sitting just for a little, the nagging managers who could care less, ya I didn’t last.
    Got my real estate license and I make way more then I ever did over there, barely doing psyical activity, and will not be going back to a warehouse ever in my life

I was always in the top of the board and they kept pushing me to go faster and faster until I just couldn't go anymore. My body wore down got walking pneumonia and they let me go. They don't give a shit lol. And if you get let go don't worry about it. It's just Amazon. Onto the next best thing. That last tip was on point though. They always asked me to water spider or float and help everyone out, I was in Re-bin (Which was my favorite) and they basically just use you up if you say yes to everything.

    • @C11
      @C11  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      What is water spider and problem solving

    • @C11
      @C11  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Water spider is essentially refilling all of the work for stowers and cleaning up the cardboard boxes after stowers. You spend most of the day operating pallet jacks, lifting boxes constantly, & pushing large cardboard containers called “gaylords” that are filled with all of the smaller cardboard boxes stowers finished using. Problem solve is exactly what it says, they solve problems. Sometimes items come in unscannable, missing, damaged, or with the labels missing; problem solvers are there to fix that. They walk around with a laptop on a cart and solve problems all day

  • @Whoo711
    @Whoo711 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I was at an FC for a while, and I *never* Water Spidered
    ...except for one day when, during Prime Week, they pulled me OFF AFE Induct- try as I might, I *could not* get my rate ANYWHERE NEAR fucking 1200 UPH (wtf? 1200... good lord), esp. given the fact that my arms were still a bit sore from 2 previous days' straight of inducting (not to mention that the gloves, in all honesty, don't really help, oftentimes, imo). The 3rd day that week (3rd day inducting ever), after JUST TWO HOURS of inducting, they pulled me off.
    And that was when my water-spidering nightmare began. From about 9-12:55 or so, I basically replaced a shit-ton of empty boxes in the various spots for each packer's table. HATED IT
    Plus... to be quite honest, the guy training me was NEUROTIC as all hell. Like, instead of just filling it up w/ plenty of boxes but not TOO TIGHTLY, he kept pushing me to OVERFILL IT AND MAKE THE BOXES TIGHT. I'm thinking, "WHY?? It's just a few boxes more, and it inconveniences the packers! Goddamn..."
    Needless to say, after almost 2 months during that 'stint' at Amazon, I left and quit after break was over. Said "fuck it". Realized what a mistake I had made transferring to Sort Flow, and, for a while, my ONLY TWO options would be either to Water Spider again
    or Induct again, neither of which was remotely appealing or even tolerable
    I mean, I would've liked to at least TRY rebin, but... I probably would've had to wait at least a month or so before even getting the option. Def. *did not* wanna pack, though
    ...only to come back in January, as a picker. Then transferred back to Dock. Luckily, Dock's a lot more laid-back (usually), but palletizing is BORING AF. Branched-out, though, my 3rd time at Amazon, to induct (way better than AFE's, by far), did more fluid loading and learned Trans.
    ...then I made the stupid mistake of transferring to the RT shift on Dock. *sigh* because that shift had way less people, I was pretty-much 'stuck' doing NOTHING BUT PALLETIZING.
    I really-wanted to try to transfer to Count
    ...but, tbh, after the last week of May, I realized, "I can't fucking do this anymore!" Even 3 12's of nothing-but-palletizing is so mentally and physically draining, even w/ a fair amount of caffeine and painkiller
    Not to mention that people on RT shift ARE EVEN WORSE at palletizing than the 10-hour front-half! Jfc
    Needless to say, I never did or asked or got asked to do WS in Dock. fuck that

    I start February the 2nd and I use a cane and I've been told that they'll make accommodations for me has anyone at any of their facilities in the warehouse seen anybody else with a cane and what kind of accommodation they may make for them? I'm getting really worried although I talk to the accommodation team and they told me don't worry about it they have people that work there that have to use canes and wheelchairs. Any information would sure help ease my mind

    What is the "waterspider"? I am starting to work at Amazon in the UK this week and I need to know :P

    • @C11
      @C11  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The definition of a water spider depends on department because a lot of departments have water spiders but for my specific department (inbound, stow) water spiders spend their day pallet jacking pallets around and feeding the work from those pallets to the stowers. It also includes throwing away the stower’s boxes and putting their used totes in the right place. It is probably the most active position in the FC that will lead to the best workout and most steps of anyone in the facility

    • @aamihome
      @aamihome 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In outbound a water spider is someone who refills boxes and dunage(the air bubbles bags used for keeping items in packages from breaking) for packers. They run around a lot. It’s not a easy job
