      Brilliant video.
      Can you explain tension in the set up, before takeaway.
      I am using your method, but sometimes I feel that, left arm straight, weight forwards, left arm tucked in.
      I feel I am getting a bit locked up before take away.
      Thinking of this and that.
      Can you explain the feel before take away, please.

    Thank you Tom. You have made the golf swing simple for me lol. Your online course is worth more than gold to a ex baseball player that had a hard time with the game. Im still scoring in the mid 100 ( 100-115 } but its now becasue of going OB or the short game. Even my friends say i will be a problem in the next 3 months! road to 80 is in sight !!!!

    Your videos are awesome for the weekend warriors who are seeking a consistent repeatable golf swing. However, the golf industry profits off millions of golfers chasing a complex contradictory multilayered swing that convinces you new equipment and a different ball will solve your problems. Obviously simplicity is the answer, confusion is the money maker. Keep the great information coming⛳️

      @steveglica7109 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Exactly, all those new hi-tech clubs that claim a straighter ball flight and/or golf balls that offer straighter ball flight and higher spin....while most of us amateur weekend golfers, lose at least one of those hi-tech golf balls per round and maybe exchanging with a less expensive ball or one that was recently found!

      Unfortunately, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎
      I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity and simplicity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction!
      And as for Weekend Warriors, well yes - they do comprise a large part of this audience. But here's the thing - in actuality, this body-friendly, powerful, low-maintenance swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top.
      Thanks for your message and support!!

    Man, I’m so glad I found this system. So much more consistency. Better contact across the board. I used to be almost obsessed with swing plane and dropping it to the inside. I never even think about that stuff now. This flat out works!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You had me at "system", Doug, because that is exactly what it is: a robust swing *_system_* rooted in geometry and physics, modeled on empirical data from the game's best, and designed to create consistent, powerful, low-maintenance ball striking machines! If something goes awry, the system has the answer. Want to curve it one way or the other? The system has the recipe for doing so. Flight it high or low? Consult the system. Compare and contrast that to a swing built upon a random compilation of fixes, patches, and band-aids. In other words, do we prefer solid rock or constantly shifting sand for the foundation of our game? 😎
      Anyway, that is *AWESOME!* I’m very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play.

    Tommy, I love the name of your swing method, concepts you call the 'Will Swing' as opposed to what so many of us amateur golfers have been taught, the 'When Swing', which has kept us in that treadmill you described as a hope that the swing I was taught by some teaching pro will get the ball flight results that he claims I should achieve but it is a rarity if at all.
    This spring when the temps get warmer, I will head out to an empty field nearby or the golf range and try to perform the 'Will Swing'....sounds more simple to follow than all the instruction books I have ever read and lessons that I or my golfing friends have taken over all our years of playing, and that is approximately 50yrs for each of us! Thanks so much for explaining and demonstrating a golf swing method that involves logical reasoning combined with the laws of geometry and physics.

    Hi Tom, as always, another good video on the "will" swing. I have been following you for over a year now and been working on the swing you teach. My wedges are getting pretty good with contact and direction. However, still struggling with the other clubs, particularly the lower clubs. I have two questions I am hoping you can provide tip(s) for. 1) In keeping my left arm straight, my forearm gets sore after awhile in the round. Likely too stiff at address. 2) My left hand wants to naturally open the club face during the take away. I can see two knuckles in the grip. Tips or thoughts on being too stiff in the left arm and what drill/practice I can do to work on keeping the left hand quiet or straight? Thank you.... Dean

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Dean,
      1) The lead arm is the radius of our swing circle, and as such if we desire ball striking consistency we should endeavor to preserve our radius from address to post-impact. Our lead arm should hang down relatively straight without any "forcing" at address. From there, as long as we have a proper setup which is supportive of an unrestricted motion we ought to be able to maintain the same level of straightness - not stiff or tense - that we started with.
      2) Ideally, we should simply "allow" the hand and wrist actions to happen without forcing anything. In other words, if we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper wrist and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power.
      And while I certainly have other videos that address these topics, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

    Another good video
    Couple ideas for videos that maybe others like me have a huge problem with.
    1st - limited flexibility. Need a way to connect shoulder with what rest of body is doing. I feel like my upper turns more than I do with my hips and core and then swing isn't connected.
    Related to above:
    2nd - when I get to the top of backswing, I "lose" connection (maybe mentally) with the club and have no clue where I'm at anymore. Also thinking the grip that I have may be an issue even though I try to grip correctly.
    Bonus idea for a video - all you golfer have elbows facing out. Mine often face each other. When working on them facing out, I can't figure out the swing and it just feels disconnected and need a better understanding!
    Ok I'll stop.
    Love these videos and perspective.
    I have found other videos that say things different than you to be good. And I find your content good.
    I am just lost :).
    Keep them coming!

      I appreciate your suggestions, Jay, and I actually do have content addressing those various topics. However, I strongly suggest my online school to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my TH-cam content.
      You may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, *_range of motion limitations,_* back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power source, and it also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Restricting this action can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the lower back, lead knee, and the hip joints as the hips will "want" to move laterally and turn through into the finish but will be fighting the body in the process.
      Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. The value in terms of what you get for the low price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. (By the way, I am presently offering a FREE 7-day trial membership in my online school if you are interested in giving it a "test drive". Here is a link where you can learn more: school.saguto.golf/c/free-7-day-trial?post_login_redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fschool.saguto.golf%2Fc%2Ffree-7-day-trial%2Fdrop-9-shots-and-gain-14-yards-in-12-months.)

    I have been working on this on the range for a month or so. Played in a scramble yesterday and hit a handfull of solid shots. It is hard to clear your mind when on the course, but I love it when that “ball first” contact happens or when my driver goes dead straight. I feel,like I have to get really flat to stay on my left side…….

      Glad you enjoyed it, Al!
      When folks say the "tried my way and it doesn't work", I am always intrigued because beyond being modeled on empirical data from the game's greatest ball strikers, the variable-free, body-friendly, powerful system I teach is rooted in physics and geometry, and those laws apply to the entire universe! 😎 As such, their lament usually means that either or both of the following apply: 1) They "tried" it without properly learning it, and/or 2) They are battling deeply ingrained, stubborn "ghosts of swings past" that take more time and patience to extricate then they are willing to devote.
      Now, for those who truly wish to get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, sequential platform, I strongly suggest my online school. It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. The school is where you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more.

    If I focus on shoulders on the downswing, I tend to have a few pulls. Keeping my weight on the left leg and starting my downswing by driving up with my left leg works better for me and keeps me turning through the shot. The other thing I focus on is locking my right arm in close to my rib cage.

      I've taught that and others as well, Brett, and your comment is precisely why I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my TH-cam content. I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Kristian, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!
      Ultimately, your answer lies in ball flight laws. Clubface angle relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. From there you can then do some reverse engineering to identify and neutralize the cause of a sideways shot. So for a straight push the club face is open to the target and square to an in-to-out path at impact, and for an overdraw the face is generally closed to an overly shallowed path.
      For a golfer who was previously prone to steepness, the exaggerated feel of actively swinging out to the ball may be necessary at first to overcome that tendency. However, once the steep downswing path has been successfully eliminated, the golfer needs to begin dialing back that contrived move lest they encounter the types of issues you are dealing with from an overly shallowed path (i.e.: too much of a good thing...😎)
      Additional potential causes include something as simple as the ball position being too far back at address, or there may be other factors involved such as a conscious or subconscious handsy manipulation, improper wrist action, and more.
      While there is certainly content on my channel that addresses the various causes, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

    I imagine the club as a ball at the end of a rope. I'm throwing the club behind me instead of picking it up and moving my wrists to change the direction. I'm gripping the club so it doesn't get tossed behind me. When it finally gets to the top of the swing, I shift my weight to throw the club back to the ball by pushing my weight into the lead foot. Takes a lot of thinking out of the swing and keeps it consistent throughout your clubset. Instead of drawing the circle with your wrists, you're using the momentum of the club flying away from you to draw the circle.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I like what you are doing! Ideally, we should simply "allow" the hand and wrist actions to happen without forcing anything.
      Thanks for sharing your feels and keep up the great work!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Paul,
      We first need to be aware that camera angles can greatly skew the viewer's perspective on ball position. That aside, while this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape. (By the way, I strongly suggest using alignment sticks when monitoring ball position - one on the foot line, a second one parallel to the first to mark the target line, and a third perpendicular to these to show ball position - as our side-on view from above tends to skew our perspective of the actual location of the ball relative to our stance.)

    For anyone that reads this comment, what I would say is dont get too much weight forward (it causes shanks), try to keep the lead leg bent consistently (dont bend down too much), and most importantly hold your right arm into your body on the back swing (it gives more control of the face). This is without doubt the only way you should swing a club. I feel like a total jerk because I got led astray by the weight shifters and had to come back to the source to fix an ugly, ugly swing....

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Good advice, Phil, and welcome back to "the dark side", where the spoils of "conventional" instruction - chronic inconsistency, physical pain, and endless frustration - yield to the fruits of body-friendly enjoyment of this great game for a lifetime. 😎
      As for your comment about not getting to much weight forward, it's all a matter of how you accomplish that. If it's done while keeping the swing center intact then there ought not be any issue. What I don't want to see is the upper torso and head moving targetward at any time prior to impact as that would signify improper execution and a resulting drift in center and low point. To correctly set ourselves for this, we address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs). We then gradually experience more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. The result is a centered, stress-free, flowing motion back and through, and a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing.
      By the way, with regard to receiving swing information from different sources, please be careful in navigating the muddied, overly-complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction. That is not a dig against any other teachers out there. It's simply best to commit to a system - whether it be this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance method or another - put your blinders on, and stick to it. And if the system I teach appeals to you or at the very least stokes your curiosity, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Not at all, Paul. We grip the club with the face square to the target at the "zero point", which is even with the lead shoulder. We then set our hands in their stock position - even with the inside of the lead thigh, and simply place the clubface behind the ball without any manipulations. If the ball position is behind the hands - as it typically is - then this will result in the face naturally opening a slight amount without any twisting or turning of the hands, thereby setting us up for a powerful push-draw ball flight.

      Sounds like there's a bit too much going on there for me to offer an accurate diagnosis without actually seeing your swing. Does your setup facilitate an unrestricted hip and shoulder turn? Are you presetting your arm structure/orientation and connection points, and are you correctly maintaining them throughout the motion? Are you controlling the swing with the shoulders or are you contriving some type of hand and/or wrist action?
      When you say that you are trying to follow my lessons, it is critical to understand that this channel's episodes - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of the school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.
      And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that is delivering the referenced results.
      Beyond that, I do offer a swing video analysis service which enables me to put my eyes on your swing, diagnose any issues, and provide a corrective action plan if applicable. It is also excellent for maintenance purposes to ensure that you are progressing properly. Here is a link where you can learn more about this option: saguto.golf/lessons

    Tom, this is not my first comment to your excellent videos. When analysing your explanations, one could believe the golf swing is really that simple. Now comes the however: actually, it is not that simple! The reason is that the original center of the circle in the set-up position is NOT achieved again when hitting the ball (even if the head is kept at its place) due to the remarkable weight shift, the strongly open hips, the slightly open shoulders, and the forward shaft lean.
    Especially amazing for me is how you are able to keep the left arm straight from the beginning of the swing until long after hitting the ball. Can you teach us how to do this? I can keep the arm straight up to the end of the backswing but then always get a bending of the arm immediately after starting the downswing. Please, tell me (us) how to switch this off!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Golf is indeed a very difficult sport, Bernhard. But if we can simplify the swing so as not to rely on timing, exceptional hand-eye coordination, and/or micromanaging "positions" - _and we can_ - then we will be able to achieve consistently great results without having to continuously work so hard. In other words, if we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. In doing so we are minimizing variables, and that enables us to then construct our own ball striking machine.
      While there is certainly content on my channel that addresses the topics you mentioned, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lessons and drills, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

I give all credit where it is due - including Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett for analyzing and interpreting the science, and to those who preceded them with their empirical observations of the game's best ball strikers and all their subsequent chalkboard number-crunching. I just do my best to take what they have built and convey it in my own simplified teaching style, and as a result thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives through my online school's step-by-step lessons and drills, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Daniel,
      Your shanks can be the result of one or more of a variety of actions: 1) You may be too steep on the downswing and thereby exposing the hosel to the ball; 2) Conversely, your downswing path may be too in to out; 3) You may be rolling the face open or snatching the club inside with the hands in the takeaway; 4) Your wrists may not be hinging properly (which is often the case when a golfer tries to manufacture or force the hinge rather than just allowing it to happen); 5) You are setting up with the ball positioned at the heel of the club; 6) You are losing your pre-established relationship with the ball (i.e.: a deficiency in the Tilt component); 7) You are not completing your shoulder turn in the backswing; 8) More... What I'm getting at is that there are a number of potential causes, and without actually seeing your swing it's impossible for me to identify the culprit behind those hosel rockets.
      FYI, there are entire sections of my online school dedicated to resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues. Have you looked into it? You know as a ‘concept’ I really enjoy the whole golf thing. Hit the small ball down a lovely stretch of woods, and then on pretty green scoot the ball into a little hole. Fun. But I can say from my first lesson a pro at a local course, who quickly became bored with my lack of skill, it was just a bunch of cock your wrists - unload your wrists - stay open or shallow or … just a lot of golf jibberish. And then on TH-cam I can find 10 videos saying do and another 10 saying never do that. Keep it low - cock your wrists under your belt - senior swing (I’m 68). I have kayaked open ocean - canoed rivers - climbed rock faces - played tennis - etc. The basic golf swing is just the most crazy thing I’ve tried. I like your videos but I’m just going to have to lay low until the temps get above 50deg in March.

      Silly concept, greatest game on earth!
      When things do warm up.....
      1) For a really good starting point to get you on the proper path towards constructing a low-maintenance, consistent, powerful ball striking machine, here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker": go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews
      2) There is no "senior swing" in the SagutoGolf world; just individually unique golf swings that produce crispy, addictive contact and seemingly effortless distance. You see, a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      So, after you work through that mini course, please consider enrolling in the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school. That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. The value in terms of what you get for the low price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.
      You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.
      Thanks for your message!

    How can you fire your hips to the right if your weight is already forward? Anyone know?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Not sure what "fire your hips to the right" is specifically referring to, Jay, but anyway there is absolutely no issue achieving the correct hip action when the forward weight loading is executed properly. Our hips certainly provide a power boost. When prematurely rotated, all bets are off. For example, the lateral targetward action of the hips acts as a governor to prevent a premature over-rotation and thereby enables the player to keep his upper torso square without having to fight their body. It's also a move that you will notice with every great ball striker. (Cue up a face-on video of any Tour player, put your finger, mouse pointer, or some other reference tool on their lead hip at address, and then observe the extent to which the hips move laterally past your pointer in the downswing while - and this is key - the head and thus the swing center remains in place.) Most amateur golfers already have plenty of the rotational component, in many cases due to the misguided "fire the hips" notion that has plagued so many amateurs with an early-onset spinout ; they need to build in the lateral hip slide to suppress the early-onset spinout that causes so many to get steep and across the line, or they get stuck, early extend, flip, etc. Here is a recent lesson videos specific to the topic of hip action with the forward weight load: th-cam.com/video/8Oi0qWOw6og/w-d-xo.html

    • @peterhammer4644
      @peterhammer4644 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You need to check your hips. The right hip socket needs to move in direction where you are hitting the ball by the end of the backswing. If you have even slightly hipsway in opposite direction, you get a reverse pivot, which is a total swing killer.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It is likely a matter of how you are setting your weight forward.

    Feels great, but causing a mean hook sometimes especially on drives, why is that?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well, "feels great" is a good start! 😎
      There are just too many potential variables and unknowns for me to make an accurate diagnosis regarding your hook tendencies without actually seeing your swing. For example, if your path was previously too steep and you were making compensations to prevent the ball from slicing off the planet - perhaps a very strong grip or setting up with a closed face - then those compensations could certainly result in a hook if you have successfully corrected your path. Other things to consider are your ball position is too far forward, your hands are too far back, your weight is not forward enough at impact, more..... Ultimately, the answer lies in ball flight laws. Clubface angle relative to target line at impact is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. From there you can then do some reverse engineering to identify and neutralize the cause of a sideways shot.
      While there are certainly videos on my channel that address the various causes of hooks, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

    What is your trigger to begin your downswing?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      How to initiate the downswing is a loaded question because it is so dependent on individual tendencies that I cannot give a generalized answer. If I tell you that it's a lateral hip slide but your downswing already naturally has sufficient forward force, then you'll hit pushes and/or sweeping overdraws all day long, and if I tell you to rotate your hips but you are already naturally applying enough outward force, then your destination is pull/slice city. I could also say the shoulders, or dropping the hands, or getting the lead arm off the chest, or rolling your trail foot targetward, or increasing pressure into the lead leg, and more.... Anyway, this is why I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another.
      So, while there is certainly content on my channel that addresses these various downswing triggers, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

    You want the body to be the hub and engine of the swing. The right arm and hand need to act like a part of that hub and piston not a spoke in the wheel. The spoke is the left arms job.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Excellent imagery, Timothy! But also be cognizant of the power stroke provided by that "piston" as it fires through the zone (without any contrived action). This is what Mr. Hogan meant when he famously quipped that if he started the downswing properly he wished he'd had three right hands to hit the ball.

    I find your tips useful, but it is not all in the shoulders rotation... I agree the shoulders will lead the hip in the backswing, but the hip will lead back the shoulders and arms in the downswing. It can clearly be seen in your own swing, in slowmo. You "fire your hips" a fraction before moving the upper body in the downswing... And that is the part many people struggle because we dont have the hip muscles conditioned to initiate that sequence so body gets stuck in the back and the arms swing our of position, hitting the ball or ground in funky ways.

      That's gonna happen naturally with your weight forward.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      When properly deployed in sequence our hips play a role in preserving our downswing path and they can certainly provide a power boost. When prematurely rotated, all bets are off. For example, the lateral targetward action of the hips acts as a governor on the rotational component, thereby enabling the player to keep their upper torso square and their swing center intact without having to fight their body. It's also a move that you will notice with every great ball striker. (Cue up a face-on video of any Tour player, put your finger, mouse pointer, or some other reference tool on their lead hip at address, and then observe the extent to which the hips move laterally past your pointer in the downswing while - and this is key - the head and thus the swing center remains in place.) This will occur naturally if we allow it to, but unfortunately the misguided "fire the hips" notion has plagued so many amateurs with an early-onset spinout that makes them steep and across the line, or they get stuck, early extend, flip, etc. For them, the "feel" of the shoulders leading will help in overcoming this, correctly engaging their hips and fixing their path, thereby leading them to a solid, "crispy" impact condition.
      In more general terms, I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible.

      @SagutoGolf  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      LOL! The golf swing is indeed overly complicated in particular by one part of the human body, Ron - the brain and all the swing nonsense and misguided instruction it has been fed. Garbage in, garbage out; and countless golf swings have sadly been trashed as a result. This is not saying that golf is "easy" as it most certainly is anything but. However, if we can simplify the swing so as not to rely on timing, exceptional hand-eye coordination, and/or micromanaging "positions" - and we can - then we are able to achieve consistently great results without having to continuously work so hard.

And, it may be that some players lean to the right simply because they are less flexible. When we think about turning the left shoulder we tend to forget that the shoulder blade plays a part; and, as a consequence a player may not engage the muscles around the shoulder blade. And, when these muscles don't work a player then topples over to the right on account of the fact that they turn from the top.

      LOL! Thanks for the musical comparisons! When it comes to British Rock of that era, I'll take The Who thank you.....😎
      Yes, and that is the type of amateur action we can - and are - resolving here by unlocking the body and allowing it to respond. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      For example, the outward flaring of both feet and knees 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates and is supportive of: 1) the proper amount of inclined, free-flowing hip turn in the backswing, 2) the gradually increasing weight load into the lead side without any rearward shifting of our swing center (which can occur if the knee kicks inward), and 3) the restriction-free lateral and rotational action of the hips in the downswing.
      The fact is that a significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this system affords them. This is why I routinely say that one does not need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past.
      Thanks,
      Tom
