    I have made a 4- patch kaleidoscope once, and mine was a small quilt. I have also made hexi- kaleidoscope quilts. It is always fun to lay out the pieces and watch designs appear. I agree that a larger print creates greater variety in the results.

I'm 68 now, and I started quilting this July. I've made a few "accidentally" and then a couple that I followed directions. I think the second one I made was with the Pioneer Woman fabric fat quarters from Wal Mart. Thanks for your instructions and your videos!!

    Hi. I am so happy with how your quilt turned out! I was so happy to see how you did it. I've been dying to make a kaleidoscope quilt. I bought the latest remnant of a large print floral and gushed there was enough for the hexie kaleidoscope. There is only 2.5meters, 4 repeats. When you mentioned this quilt with just 4 repeats I was thinking you were cutting into triangles with 45° angle. This is better than I would have thought!

    • @70acres
      @70acres  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for watching and commenting, Anita! I'm glad this will help you use that fabric! Commenters did tell me that i can cut the fabric down the fold and match those repeats up separately. That will save you a lot of grief!

    • @anitalapierre1585
      @anitalapierre1585 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@70acres i did look at that as a possibility but the fabric didn't look like repeat across the width, just the legnth. I am more than happy to make mine as you made yours. If doing the 45° cuts, there is only one way to assemble the blocks. They way you do it gives 4 options. Also because its squares, they can be any size as long as they are the same. This is not the next project I'll be making, but its going to light a fire under me to get current ones finished.

    • @70acres
      @70acres  ปีที่แล้ว

I need to explore easy quilting options on my machine, like using a wave stitch or scallop with straight stitches. I am new to your tutorials. Love how you explained this project with such ease. After watching part one, I of course had to watch part 2. I was not disappointed! It is the first time I’ve heard of a 4 block kaleidoscope. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Again I absolutely love it!!!

      Thanks so much, Janet. thechosen.tv There is also an app called The Chosen and that app is available for your phone, ruku, apple tv, etc.... This show changed my life, it removed the fog of confusion I had in the Bible and it gave me a relationship with Jesus. I simply can not recommend this show enough. Start from Season one. Season 3 finale comes out on Tuesday. I know all the episodes so well I have the script memorized. God bless.

    When I do these blocks, there is often one option that makes me go, "Ooh!". That is the option I choose. If any don't really excite me, then I just try to assure a good variety.

    Just found this video. Seems like to much work but it is beautiful. The sashing definitely sets it off but I but sashing on all my quilts. The LQS laughs at me.

      Apparently I made it more difficult than it needed to be. Cut the fabric down the center fold and match each half separately. That takes most of the work away! Thanks for watching, Janey!

    What's the difference between batik and other fabrics?

    • @70acres
      @70acres  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are both cotton but batiks are a tighter weave and the pattern is made with a wax resist. Thanks for watching, Kathy!

    When I first learned how to line up the fabric the pattern instructions had me to cut on the fold the full length of the fabric. The reason for this because when the fabric is put onto a bolt, the top side of the fabric stretches more than the opposite side of the fabric.
    So you might have noticed that the block centers on the bottom piece didn't quite match as well as the top pieces and the difference in the stretching is what causes this.
    Putting in the sashing really let each 4-patch shine. Blessings to you and your family.

      Thank you for watching and commenting, Judith! Many viewers told me about cutting the fabric at the fold. When I learned, we left it folded. Next time, I will cut it down the fold.

    6 blocks by 8 blocks. Finished quilt size depends on how wide your sashing is, and whether you add borders.

    Just a thought ytube now lets you set up a memberships and that might be easier than having to manage 2 platforms, As to things you could do some creators I know do special live streams each month for their paid member, or let them vote on which project you do next, there are all kinds of things you could do.

    Your quilt top is beautiful with the sashing. I see that some of the blocks did repeat; but, it is still beautiful. I love watching the old black and white movies. People knew how to act back then. We don't have to see the gore (or sex) to understand what happened.
