How to Double and Triple Covalent Bonds - Same 4 Easy Steps

What happens when you need to make two or three bonds to the same atom? How do you show it?
It's easy - just bond the single electrons together (follow the same 4 easy steps as with single bonding) and if your molecule looks wonky after matching up the singles... just redraw it!

Thank you so much. The reason I didn’t understand this was because I didn’t know if I was suppose to double or triple bond certain ones. Like O2 they had enough to be triple in my eyes but, now I know that each element needs 8 to be stable I won’t have thst problem anymore. I only counted the electrons they shared and not all shared electrons😅. Thank you very much.

oh great question! SO2 is a tricky one that doesn't follow the regular rules and has something called a resonance structure. I don't have a video with SO2 specifically, but this one has NO2 and that follows the same rules for why SO2 is weird. th-cam.com/video/g_Qfdc2Q1XE/w-d-xo.html
