- We are finally on to prom dress two out of three! This dress is the intermediate level out of the three, but I think it is honestly my favorite. I am so in love with this dress, and it is hard to believe it used to be a sheet!! Absolutely! Also thrift shops always have sheets, pillow cases, and even full yards of really nice fabrics that you can use to make dresses

@@PaperStxrs They're my least favourite part - but they do look great on you. And for a prom dress a bit of arm coverage might be appropriate in the US - and it WOULD have looked quite low-cut without the sleeves.
The general style and the pattern of the fabric is lovely. It's a wonderful ballroom fantasy - and who wouldn't want that? I find it impressive how well you managed to fit that bodice.
The puppy is my favorite part.

The dog laying down while you're working is so realistic. My cats love "helping" me cut out pieces. This turned out so pretty.

Absolutely stunning. Made me grin. I bought sheets from the thrift store when I started sewing so that if I went wrong I wasn't wasting exspensive fabric. Turns out there is no need to buy exspensive fabric. I made a beautiful dress from laura Ashley curtains, and another from a duvet :) it's a perfect way to make sure your wardrobe is unique.
She brings a flood of memories back for me. I remember sewing my prom dress. No one knew it & I didn't tell. It wasn't "fashionable" to sew at the time. If you wore homemade clothes you were considered poor to po (pō). I grew up quite po. Now it's a fashion rage to sew as it's considered a lost art. This young lady is incredibly talented and appreciate discovering her on U-tube. Glad she has a wonderful support system(her family)! Blessing Be 💫💫💫

Im 65....started sewing my clothes, curtains, etc etc. at age 11...endless possibilities....fabric is fabric...doesnt need to come from the fabric store either!!

How did you fit the skirt on the bedsheet? I’m trying to make it for my prom dress and the pattern piece is too big 😭😭
I ran into the same problem! I ended up just making the dress shorter. But if you want it long maybe you could add 2 or 3 more ruffles to the bottom of the dress if that makes any sense 😂

Awe A girl after my heart. When my daughter was in high school she wanted some checked shirts but at the store they were $45 apiece so I went and bought sheets that were the exact same type of fabric as the shirts were and they only cost me three dollars apiece to make and she looked great in them and you could not tell the difference between the shirts I made and the shirts that were in the store

Gorg!!! There’s a little trick for the pockets. As you’re sewing down the side seam towards the top edge of the pocket, instead of cutting the thread and skipping the pocket and continuing down the side seam, make sure the needle is down and turn the fabric so that you sew around the pocket. When you finish around the pocket and get back to the side seam turn the fabric and continue sewing down the side seam. Hope that made sense. Happy sewing!

Don't be afraid to make mistakes because we learn from our mistakes if we don't give up! Sometimes, I start a project that is harder than I thought and I will step away from it and do something else. When I come back to the project I see it with a clear eye and I can finish it better.

I used bedsheets instead of a bedspread on our kids beds when they were little! They are also easy to make into curtains too. Never used then for dresses, just things around the house
i’m gonna attempt and use a short skirt version of this for my graduation dress! i love the puffy sleeves and the neckline so much!
That is something to wear to a formal summer party. Add a string of pearls with tear drop earrings or a simple diamond pendant and it would look fabulous!

The print of the dress is.verh beautiful along with the dress. You look like a princess just missing your tiara.
Tip for doing a lot of pleats: for some reason, I can't always get my pleats to lay right as they go under the foot, so after much trial and error, I learned to do a wide loose stitch to hold them all in place while you sew. It takes a few extra minutes, but that's better than having to rip out stitches and redo multiple times like I did the first time.
The good ol' machine basting stitch
Yes!!! Add basting your gathered fabric to whatever you're attaching it to as well because pinning makes the actual sewing process so much longer
yes . . . its called a 'stay stitch' ...tailors and seamstresses have used them for *hundreds* of years in the tailoring industry. If you had asked an older person who knew, they would have taught you this, but, of course, everyone under 25 knows EVERYTHING and we KNOW NOTHING.

Many years ago, I worked in the Bed & Bath Department at a brand new store. I made 2 floor length Hawaiian dresses to wear during sheet sales. One of the Display Department men sewed a couple of long sleeve shirts from sheets. We looked great! I've sewn floor to ceiling drapes from king size sheets and ruffled curtains from twin size sheets. I've even made a tufted wall covering for my daughter's room from sheets. Sheets can be the perfect fabric for many projects! Thanks for posting this video!

How do you know how big to make each panel? I sew with custom patterns often, but I’ve never sewn a fitted bodice like this (I usually just add darts) cuz I can’t figure out how to measure myself snd then translate it to the weird curvy parts

I'm in love with this dress, it looks so good on her and it has pockets. I'm slim, but 6' and shoulders to come with the height, so I couldn't wear it. Maybe it would work by opting for a plain white bodice or I could wear it without the sleeves? The pattern is lovely, but would be a bit to much for me with the sleeves, but they are my favourite part.
