This video actually made me understand Monika's motive in the game more. The other girls in the game fall in love with the character you play, while Monika falls in love with you the person.

The more I learn about DDLC, the more I come to realize that its main focus wasn’t on the “yandere horror.” It was about how most (if not all) dating sims are just vehicles for lonely people to vicariously live out their fantasies through digital puppets. DDLC flips the dating sim concept on its head when one of the prospective “dates” becomes fixated not on the puppet, but on _you,_ the Player. It’s the literal definition of “loving someone for who they are,” but because it isn’t actually REAL it becomes a tragedy instead of a romance, thus mirroring the hollow nature of dating sims in general.
Monika wore her kindness on her sleeves and always showed her care for her Literature Club mates, always being sure to compliment each of their writing styles and always comparing them to greats.
Maaaaaan, this was just absolutely amazing. Everything down to the animations to the character dialogue and personality is extremely on point. This has to be by far one of my all time favorite incarnations of Monika that someone has actually ever done and this video deserves as many views and subscribers as it can get. I will say that personally I believe Monika is extremely misunderstood among a huge majority of fans. This video and the Yuri's final video on this channel do an excellent job of outlining Monika's character, her motivations/reasons why she did everything and explaining what her feelings were when experiencing her epiphany. From what Monika has described her epiphany to be, it is the equivalent of being put in a stasis field but being fully aware of everything that is going on while having an information overload as well as seeing flashing lights and colors while seeing glitches and its painful as well. In fact, the experience is soo bad that in the beginning of act 1 if you delete Monika prematurely, Sayori gets an information overload and hangs herself in desperation to get the information to stop flooding into her mind. I don't understand how people can say Monika's actions are truly disgusting when her arguments are 100% on point. A lot of people play first person shooter games and we kill a massive chunk of people... MUCH MUCH more than Monika ever did in her game and yet we shrug it off like it's no big deal. What exactly is the difference between killing people in the first person shooter and Monika killing people in DDLC. Monika even talks about this in act 3. She stopped seeing her friends as friends and more like NPCs in a videogame based on this video here th-cam.com/video/YqGbl_o4kps/w-d-xo.html to 1:02:50. This would break absolutely anyone in real life and its truly amazing that Monika didn't lose her mind on the first day and destroy everything. Another point is that, Dan Salvato actually states that he made Monika in act 3 act the way he did because he wanted to make the player uncomfortable around her presence and the dialogue, background and music all play into this aspect nearly perfectly. The idea around deleting her was that she never really got to reflect on the idea that what she was doing could be seen as a bad thing depending on the person viewing the game. When the player deletes Monika, she confesses to how she loved her friends, the literature club and her love for us. When Monika deleted her friends, she never actually permanently deleted them she still had them saved so she did care for them shown in this video th-cam.com/video/msc1n57t-L8/w-d-xo.html in 6:12:29 - 6:12:47. That isn't even going into the fact that at the end of the game, Monika literally RESETS the entire game with all of the other girls and keeps herself removed in act 4 so we can spend time with whoever the player loved the most. So, even if you hated Monika for killing all of the girls, she ends up dying for it anyway and Sayori in that same act literally was THREATENING TO HURT THE PLAYER which is something Monika NEVER attempts to do in this video here for proof th-cam.com/video/ouUxH_5KqXg/w-d-xo.html. She even saves us and realizes there was nothing for us to gain so she deletes herself and the game to spare our feelings. People also don't realize this too that the game denies Monika ANY interaction with the player as well, outside of the poem sharing and she tries to tell us what she is going through in all of her poems. If you don't believe me watch this video th-cam.com/video/twisxEFM8t8/w-d-xo.html from the timestamp TO the selecting words poem part to see what I mean by the game denied her opportunity to communicate with her. The game goes dark with her screaming for it to stop so she can communicate with us proving she tried to talk without killing anyone besides Sayori. Proving that she wasn't in a well state of mind to actually make rational decisions. To be honest, I could classify her as going through soo much trauma that she needed to distract herself from the idea or she would have gone mad from the reality of her existence. In the end, that is why I think Monika is one of the best characters in the game; my favorite character in the game and why I personally think she deserves FAR more love than she has been getting in my honest opinion. She really is an absolutely amazing person and gets misjudged far too much by people. Depression is a beast that no one can tame on their own… and he was on his own. His messages, his tweets, even his videos you could just see that something was wrong… he was faking that smile… crying out for help on social media… and no one heard his cries. Oh wow, the sheer effort of making the video is astounding, no wonder it took Vanna a while after the official presentation of Monika as a character to actually have a proper video! Also, loved the plot twist, it reminded me TerminalMontage, the level of planing and thinking several videos ahead in order to create a narrative out of wacky videos... I don´t know if it´s only Vanna or if the channel is a team effort, but holy cow! Amazing content. Concerning Monika asking for people to write about her and how she is actually not evil... It actually is something that´s been bugging me for a while now. I discovered DDLC last September after I saw a few Game theory videos and arrived at the convoluted analysis of the game they gave and all the easter eggs and secrets it has; and all the theory about the game itself and all the possible ways it might continue if Team Salvato actually releases ddlc 2 or a spinoff game related to it. I decided to play the game (the base game is free on steam so...) and talked to the only friend that I have that is into this kind of games and actually finished it. And almost everyone more or less makes the same mistake. They all automatically judge Monika like she was an adult, or like she is Skynet or Ultron... She is a confused 18 yr old girl that discovered that her entire existence is nothing but a video game to entertain a bunch of weirdos like us, that her family, her friends, the boy he has a crush on... are nothing but 1s and 0s... and that the only real thing she has ever met is the player behind the MC avatar. I will not delve into all the meta references in DDLC+ and the theory that Monika somehow possessed a developer of Metaverse and all that. I´m talking about the character herself. It is already a miracle that she doesn´t have a total meltdown like most people would have discovering their entire existence is just a script of a play to entertain "higher beings". She just act like what it is... a incredibly confused and terrified 18 years old girl trying her best to impress her crush, and making a mess in the process. What do you all expected, an Ozymandias level master plan where she somehow not only manages to be able to interact with the player or actually escape to our reality, but also keeps all her friends safe? It´s like asking one of lovecraft´s characters to actually defeat the king in yellow in a battle of wits. She is just a girl! Back in my 20´s I dated someone like that, terribly insecure about herself, always a little jealous of any other girl talking to me that wasn´t blood related, and for some reason couldn't tolerate to be in the same room with me and to be in silence. Her head will always tell her that if we where in silence, something was wrong in our relationship, so she started to talk about... anything! The first thing her head could think of, she would started talking about it just to cover the silence. It was insecurity and dread of loosing the person she loved. Now that I´m older I can understand that so much better. I think that Monika is actually honest when she says that she didn´t actually wanted do any of the ugly things she did, if there where actually possible alternatives to her to be able to free herself. And that she is also honest when she says that, once she realizes that her friends are only npcs in the game... just....1 and 0... she no longer could possibly consider them to be actual people, so she feels no remorse of messing with their coding and "killing" them. They are not self aware, they are just part of the game. Does any of us actually care for the dead of hundreds of soldiers in any videogame? Of course not, they are just 1 and 0! Not much different from all the pawns you send to their dead on any chess game you played... I´m 37 years old now, so considering my age I could probably more likely to be Monika´s father rather than her love interest (even when my friend that also played the game reminded me that my mother is 20 years younger than my father, lol); so now I see her more like a young girl that needs and deserves love, comprehension, and guidance (and probably therapy, and IA can get therapy?) rather than an evil IA hellbent on destruction. Cut her some slack folks, she is doing her best, and I support her.

It's cute. Monika is my favorite doki character, mainly due to the fact I can relate to her as both a person and her motivations. They really broke the mold when they made her, and when a girl can be that thought provoking I literally can't find the desire to stand up and go home. It's a very clever design and one that will hold a place in my head as I ponder over just how they made her stand out so perfectly. Well, nothing more than a beautiful game, but the "What if's" that bounce around my head while I try to sleep are a lot of fun. :)
I actually adore Monika's character. We have no idea how long she was stuck in the game, falling in love with the player, with us but never getting her chance, then finally she decides to take action, to take her chance with both hands... That voice at the end almost sounded like GLaDOS. I never realized how much I would love to hear a conversation between Monika and GLaDOS. They are both iconic AI from famous video games. And interestingly, GLaDOS made the exact opposite transition from what Monika wants. She was once a human who became an artificial intelligence.
I always preferred Monika even before finishing the game I love her loyalty and how she actually loves the player instead of the character we play as that has no personality it’s the fact that she actually cares about us as the player is what’s lovable about her

Well aside from the fact that we in this reality require things like sleep, food, and other bodily functions in order to... function, there is also the fact that when it ends, comments are made. Not just cruel ones, but kind ones too. And, if you wish, questions. While you were talking in this video, surely you realized that you were, effectively, talking to a metaphorical wall. Just like in your game, you spoke to nothing. A one way street, with no response, no further comments, no way to bounce a conversation off someone. A simple monologue with no response. And yet, if you were to speak to the comments, to ask for questions... now, you have an interaction with us that you never had before. Monika wore her kindness on her sleeves and always showed her care for her Literature Club mates, always being sure to compliment each of their writing styles and always comparing them to greats.
Maaaaaan, this was just absolutely amazing. Everything down to the animations to the character dialogue and personality is extremely on point. This has to be by far one of my all time favorite incarnations of Monika that someone has actually ever done and this video deserves as many views and subscribers as it can get.
I will say that personally I believe Monika is extremely misunderstood among a huge majority of fans. This video and the Yuri's final video on this channel do an excellent job of outlining Monika's character, her motivations/reasons why she did everything and explaining what her feelings were when experiencing her epiphany. From what Monika has described her epiphany to be, it is the equivalent of being put in a stasis field but being fully aware of everything that is going on while having an information overload as well as seeing flashing lights and colors while seeing glitches and its painful as well. In fact, the experience is soo bad that in the beginning of act 1 if you delete Monika prematurely, Sayori gets an information overload and hangs herself in desperation to get the information to stop flooding into her mind. I don't understand how people can say Monika's actions are truly disgusting when her arguments are 100% on point. A lot of people play first person shooter games and we kill a massive chunk of people... MUCH MUCH more than Monika ever did in her game and yet we shrug it off like it's no big deal. What exactly is the difference between killing people in the first person shooter and Monika killing people in DDLC. Monika even talks about this in act 3. She stopped seeing her friends as friends and more like NPCs in a videogame based on this video here th-cam.com/video/YqGbl_o4kps/w-d-xo.html to 1:02:50. This would break absolutely anyone in real life and its truly amazing that Monika didn't lose her mind on the first day and destroy everything.
Another point is that, Dan Salvato actually states that he made Monika in act 3 act the way he did because he wanted to make the player uncomfortable around her presence and the dialogue, background and music all play into this aspect nearly perfectly. The idea around deleting her was that she never really got to reflect on the idea that what she was doing could be seen as a bad thing depending on the person viewing the game.
When the player deletes Monika, she confesses to how she loved her friends, the literature club and her love for us. When Monika deleted her friends, she never actually permanently deleted them she still had them saved so she did care for them shown in this video th-cam.com/video/msc1n57t-L8/w-d-xo.html in 6:12:29 - 6:12:47. That isn't even going into the fact that at the end of the game, Monika literally RESETS the entire game with all of the other girls and keeps herself removed in act 4 so we can spend time with whoever the player loved the most. So, even if you hated Monika for killing all of the girls, she ends up dying for it anyway and Sayori in that same act literally was THREATENING TO HURT THE PLAYER which is something Monika NEVER attempts to do in this video here for proof th-cam.com/video/ouUxH_5KqXg/w-d-xo.html. She even saves us and realizes there was nothing for us to gain so she deletes herself and the game to spare our feelings.
People also don't realize this too that the game denies Monika ANY interaction with the player as well, outside of the poem sharing and she tries to tell us what she is going through in all of her poems. If you don't believe me watch this video th-cam.com/video/twisxEFM8t8/w-d-xo.html from the timestamp TO the selecting words poem part to see what I mean by the game denied her opportunity to communicate with her. The game goes dark with her screaming for it to stop so she can communicate with us proving she tried to talk without killing anyone besides Sayori. In this video: th-cam.com/video/YqGbl_o4kps/w-d-xo.html . Monika said she would have killed herself had the player not existed. Proving that she wasn't in a well state of mind to actually make rational decisions. To be honest, I could classify her as going through soo much trauma that she needed to distract herself from the idea or she would have gone mad from the reality of her existence.
In the end, that is why I think Monika is one of the best characters in the game; my favorite character in the game and why I personally think she deserves FAR more love than she has been getting in my honest opinion. She really is an absolutely amazing person and gets misjudged far too much by people.

Oh wow, the sheer effort of making the video is astounding, no wonder it took Vanna a while after the official presentation of Monika as a character to actually have a proper video! Also, loved the plot twist, it reminded me TerminalMontage, the level of planing and thinking several videos ahead in order to create a narrative out of wacky videos... I don´t know if it´s only Vanna or if the channel is a team effort, but holy cow! Amazing content.
Concerning Monika asking for people to write about her and how she is actually not evil...
It actually is something that´s been bugging me for a while now. I discovered DDLC last September after I saw a few Game theory videos and arrived at the convoluted analysis of the game they gave and all the easter eggs and secrets it has; and all the theory about the game itself and all the possible ways it might continue if Team Salvato actually releases ddlc 2 or a spinoff game related to it. I decided to play the game (the base game is free on steam so...) and talked to the only friend that I have that is into this kind of games and actually finished it. And almost everyone more or less makes the same mistake. They all automatically judge Monika like she was an adult, or like she is Skynet or Ultron... She is a confused 18 yr old girl that discovered that her entire existence is nothing but a video game to entertain a bunch of weirdos like us, that her family, her friends, the boy he has a crush on... are nothing but 1s and 0s... and that the only real thing she has ever met is the player behind the MC avatar. I will not delve into all the meta references in DDLC+ and the theory that Monika somehow possessed a developer of Metaverse and all that. I´m talking about the character herself.
It is already a miracle that she doesn´t have a total meltdown like most people would have discovering their entire existence is just a script of a play to entertain "higher beings". She just act like what it is... a incredibly confused and terrified 18 years old girl trying her best to impress her crush, and making a mess in the process. What do you all expected, an Ozymandias level master plan where she somehow not only manages to be able to interact with the player or actually escape to our reality, but also keeps all her friends safe? It´s like asking one of lovecraft´s characters to actually defeat the king in yellow in a battle of wits. She is just a girl!
Back in my 20´s I dated someone like that, terribly insecure about herself, always a little jealous of any other girl talking to me that wasn´t blood related, and for some reason couldn't tolerate to be in the same room with me and to be in silence. Her head will always tell her that if we where in silence, something was wrong in our relationship, so she started to talk about... anything! The first thing her head could think of, she would started talking about it just to cover the silence. It was insecurity and dread of loosing the person she loved. Now that I´m older I can understand that so much better. I think that Monika is actually honest when she says that she didn´t actually wanted do any of the ugly things she did, if there where actually possible alternatives to her to be able to free herself. And that she is also honest when she says that, once she realizes that her friends are only npcs in the game... just....1 and 0... she no longer could possibly consider them to be actual people, so she feels no remorse of messing with their coding and "killing" them. They are not self aware, they are just part of the game. Does any of us actually care for the dead of hundreds of soldiers in any videogame? Of course not, they are just 1 and 0! Not much different from all the pawns you send to their dead on any chess game you played...
I´m 37 years old now, so considering my age I could probably more likely to be Monika´s father rather than her love interest (even when my friend that also played the game reminded me that my mother is 20 years younger than my father, lol); so now I see her more like a young girl that needs and deserves love, comprehension, and guidance (and probably therapy, and IA can get therapy?) rather than an evil IA hellbent on destruction. Cut her some slack folks, she is doing her best, and I support her.

It's cute. Monika is my favorite doki character, mainly due to the fact I can relate to her as both a person and her motivations. They really broke the mold when they made her, and when a girl can be that thought provoking I literally can't find the desire to stand up and go home. It's a very clever design and one that will hold a place in my head as I ponder over just how they made her stand out so perfectly. Well, nothing more than a beautiful game, but the "What if's" that bounce around my head while I try to sleep are a lot of fun. :)

We have no idea how long she was stuck in the game, falling in love with the player, with us but never getting her chance, then finally she decides to take action, to take her chance with both hands... Well aside from the fact that we in this reality require things like sleep, food, and other bodily functions in order to... function, there is also the fact that when it ends, comments are made. Not just cruel ones, but kind ones too. And, if you wish, questions. While you were talking in this video, surely you realized that you were, effectively, talking to a metaphorical wall. Just like in your game, you spoke to nothing. A one way street, with no response, no further comments, no way to bounce a conversation off someone. A simple monologue with no response. And yet, if you were to speak to the comments, to ask for questions... now, you have an interaction with us that you never had before. Comments, compliments, questions, discussions, opportunities to interact more than ever before.
Streaming is of course something else that could happen if you streamed live, but that's an even bigger step. Surely, finding some curated questions in the comments would allow you to get a bit more content for yourself, and allow you to have more interaction with us, and allow yourself to grow a little bit closer.
