    I love how your suggestions for tedious fruit prep are always "Get the kids to do it" or "Throw a party and make your guests do it."
    I say combine the two. Jackfruit piniata. Think about it.

      Make the neighbors kids do it and have your own kids boss them around while they play their PS5.

    "Put things in a pot until it tastes good"
    This is almost word for word how I describe my cooking process

    The common way to cook this in the Philippines is by "ginataan" (or cooked in coconut cream + milk). In our province there's a slightly different variation of this ginataan which is called "salad". It's almost the same as the regular ginataan but slightly tangy and less soupy. In my opinion the best stage of making it into a vegetable is just before it shows yellow flesh but not very unripe. Sometimes people still make vegetable dishes out of it even though there are some early stage of ripeness. It tends to be mushy. When picked right, the flesh should have slightly sweet (but not jack fruit-y sweet).
    This can feed a lot of people. We have a few jack fruit trees in our yard and sometimes our neighbor would ask for unripe one to cook and would give us and other neighbors a pot full of ginataan.

      The u.s. needs to let us import these things. Not everything can grow here. But I feel the u.s. is trying to keep us from healing and curing ourselves of the diseases they give us.

    I’ve been using green jackfruit in savory dishes all the time lately. Great stuff. (I use canned or pouched jackfruit, so no mess. I prefer pouched because it’s not in a brine, so the texture is better and it takes seasoning better, without the taste of the brine competing with the seasoning

    If you put enough good spices and plenty of barbecue sauce, jackfruit is a great substitute for pulled pork. I can’t quite get past that texture, though. Not my favorite.

    Excellent. I was given seven green jackfruit. What to do??? Oh dear! Well I processed five of them, and froze some of it. It was very time consuming indeed, but very well worth it in the end. The Indians make a lovely pickle from the unripe fruit, and it is truly delicious, if you like spicy, which I do. Check out some recipes. A different, fun alternative.

    Huh...I may try this. There's a lot you can do with different fungi if you need something in the meat-textured department. No on should ever have to stoop to the level of TVP. The fungi-based 'Quorn' products are my personal favorite.

  • @Herr_Scheissemann
    @Herr_Scheissemann 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm 3 years late but man! You really did your research! My grandma used to cut it in half then peel the skin. After that you can just hack it away! Our special dish here in Jogja is gudeg, some other place make megono rice and some other place make many other dish out of it. I used to hate unripe jackfruit dish when I was a kid, but growing up I ended up liking it especially gudeg and megono rice. Both gudeg and megono rice are cooked in coconut milk as far as I remember. Well I know gudeg is cooked in coconut milk and sweet soy sauce gravy or some kind but I'm not sure with megono. Megono is quite dry and savory like fried rice but gudeg is sweet and sloppy served with spicy tempe or spicy cow skin. I know this is not cooking channel but I hope you would try cooking either of those!
    😁👍

    Been enjoying your videos. How do you do your research before getting into a new fruit?

    • @WeirdExplorer
      @WeirdExplorer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks! I'll do some googling and asking other fruit fanatics to see what fruit is available where I am going if I'm traveling. Then I will go and hunt the markets for anything I haven't had. When sometthing stands out, I'll buy it and try to identify the fruit. Then research online what the fruit is and some facts about it. Write a few notes down. Then hit record and go.

    You can roast the seeds, evidently it's used as a replacement for chocolate aroma.
    They should be boiled or roasted to remove toxic substances.
    You should have just said pulled meat. It's a pulled meat substitute, like braised beef, pulled chicken or pork.
    It's good, but I'll stick to my meats.
