- 39 high-school singers from Chapel Hill, NC, recorded this version of "Waterloo Sunset", written by Ray Davies of The Kinks, during the Summer Recording Workshop at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, offered each year by Community Chorus Workshop. Seamus Kenney, a public school teacher at Smith Middle School in Chapel Hill conducts the chorus. The soloist is Mitch Weston, a recent graduate of East Chapel Hill High School. Seminal band, the dB's recorded the backing track, over which the chorus sing. Chris Stamey of the dB's engineered and mixed the song, also creating this original choral arrangement. The video was directed by Jacki Huntington and filmed with the chorus during the July 2013 workshop. The recording and filming was made possible by a grant from the Institute for the Arts and Humanities at UNC, Chapel Hill. Fantastic song, arrangement, performances. So glad to see a choral program choosing this type of music. CCP is such an asset to Chapel Hill. (Special shout out to "Master Shay-Shay" from my middle-schooler!)
This rules. Thanks to all of you (and Chris) for doing such a beautiful job with the greatest song ever written.
Wonderful, could not be better. Good luck to you all, from a Brit
Very nice! Ray would be proud!
Beautiful re-imagining of this classic. Props to the dB's and Seamus Kenney for pulling this together. The other Chorus Project pieces are nice but the video for this one sets it apart, along with the masterfully restrained instrumentation by the dB's. I never get tired of hearing this or watching the video. What a great experience for these young people.
Transcendent! A faithful interpretation that is quite beautiful!
beautiful!
Brilliant cover. Really magical.

Surely, you jest.
Better than The Kinks version. A bit more emotion is helpful. Thanks dbs!
