I have been a super fan of Thrice since I first heard AITA over 15 years ago. I’ve only heard this song twice (in a row) and it is already one of my all time favorites from them. How 28 people have down voted it is sincerely baffling to me. I’m surprised there are even 28 people in the world that wouldn’t be blown away by this

I'd have to agree. This captures the older vibe from Vheissu and Alchemy Index, it's performed well and sounds good. Mixing and songwriting are two big problems on this album. Most of the rest of the songs on Palms are really underwhelming.

I bought the album today still even though I wasn't sure I wanted to upon hearing the first 3 releases. Upon listening to the entire album, I still feel this album is one of the least of my favorite so far.
This song is one of the best on the album though--I fully appreciate it and it's lyrics because I'm a lot like this and need the reminder. Overall in the album the lyrics have come down a few steps compared to your past though Dustin. Don't forget the Alchemy Index or AITA lyrical content ever please...

Technically it is in 12, but the guitar is played in 7 and 5 note phrasings. The chorus Melody in this song really reminds me of an old incubus song that was in 4/4.

Sounds like Dustin is fed up with the legality of the word of God in religion, and ultimately that has resulted to what appears to be his conversion to Gnosticism, especially after listening to Beyond the Pines. "and I could run forever and never shake it. There’s always something, somewhere, that’s pressing on my chest - and I don’t really know if I’m gonna make it. But I wanna feel the wind’s embrace". He has fought for so long to try and live up to what God has said but it seems hes changed direction with his faith and now seeks the peace that the world gives or even peace within himself. Dustin I know what you mean, I know faith is very hard and as the world "progresses" it seems to make less and less sense from a worldly perspective to follow Jesus and believe everything He said, especially when we are trying to love other people the best that we can. Always feeling like no matter what you do there's an anxious thought racing through your mind about how you have to do this or do that to get it right, but the truth is none of us get it right. We as believers realize we don't have it all together and rather we deny ourselves and take up our cross and follow Jesus because He was the only one who did get it right. It's extremely difficult, the bible even says this life is in fact suffering, but the suffering of this short time shouldn't be compared to the things that are to come when we are with our Lord. Bottom line, Jesus really, truly loves you so much. You are a precious child in His eyes, you're held in His palms. I love you, I have listened and enjoyed your music for many years and it has helped me in ways you couldn't imagine. We all love you and I just hope you don't turn to the world for your peace, even when you don't understand everything that's ok, none of us know it all but as long as you set your eyes on Jesus and no one else, no pastor, no religion, no person only Jesus and you will find that peace that only He can give you, and even though you can't see or feel Him hug you or physically embrace you, just believe that all these good things you enjoy, the green grass, the wind blowing on your face, the warmth of the sun and the people in your life are all present in your life because you are first and foremost loved by your Father.

This is probably the first time you've even heard the word so before judging me I would ask that you maybe do a study on Gnosticism to see what Dustin is quite possibly really talking about here. I think people are mistaking me for bashing this album rather than me making an observation that apparently is very controversial.

Thrice has been my favorite band since 2008. I have always loved Dustin's lyrical genius and their evolving musical talent. However, I am sad to say that I am really disappointed in the album overall. I hear an entirely new philosophy. It's not consistent with what Dustin sang about for almost 20 years. I get it that people change, but it seems like he has kind of gone off the deep end almost to the point of declaring that there is no truth. He may not have ever said that, but I hear it in some of the lyrics. I also sense an overall SJW tone to his new music. I wonder if the media has gotten to him too much and he's allowed it to shift his thinking. I am truly disappointed to see this change. Dustin used to sing with such purpose and clarity. I completely resonated with just about everything he put out. I know his Church had a rough time a few years back, and maybe that has something to do with this new tone of his. I just hope that this is a phase and he returns to his old self.

I think he just grew up and felt like it's better to focus on real world issues and not an afterlife that may or may not exist. His lyrics have always been somewhat politically driven if you think back to Cold Cash and Colder Hearts
Oh I definitely agree that there has always been a political overtone to a lot of their music. The thing is that I've agreed with his political and religious views up until now. The media has created a lot of false narratives that are driving society apart. I think he has bought into them. I see the media for what they are....they harp on the negative and they seek out controversial stories to exploit their own agenda. I truly think we'd all be better off if no one ever watched the news (or used social media) again. I'm pretty sure that if we all stepped away from it, we'd all realize that we're not as divided as the media likes to portray that we are. Sure, there might be a select few jerks out there, but if we stop giving them any attention, they will fizzle out.

Lol well I voted for the guy. But only because I couldn't bear the thought of Hilary getting in office. I think some of Trump's policies are good, but unfortunately, he is severely devoid of tact. He actually might have some (emphasis on some) leadership qualities, but his personal character is questionable at best. He would do much better if he would get the hec off social media and learn how to speak in a way that people can respect. He was a better option than Hilary, who is a compulsive liar and should literally be serving time behind bars. We had two incredibly horrid choices this past election. It was really a lose lose scenario. I believe that this country is in need of a reboot, and that we'd do better if we could get an independent in office. I almost voted independent, but I didn't for two reasons....1)I wanted Austin Peterson to be the candidate, but he lost to Gary Johnson. I don't like Gary Johnson. 2) I really felt that if I voted independent, I'd be throwing my vote away. Although, I do have to say that the independent party is getting a lot more recognition these days. That's really good because that means there's a chance at eventually getting someone in office who is for smaller government. Our government is barely functioning at this point because they've taken on more than they can handle and they've spent themselves into oblivion. People are beginning to think socialism and Bernie Sanders is the way to go, but there's no way that would work because the government already has too much on their plate. Giving the government more control and subsidizing everything under the sun would never work. It will just break our already fragile system. If you're curious about how well socialism works, take a look at Venezuela. It's disastrous.
