yeah, Kamala replacing biden after the primary was really a bad move. they needed biden to drop earlier to give the replacement more legitimacy, and they needed a candidate that wasn't associated with the last 4 years to pull right leaning voters. they got neither a legitimate nor baggage free candidate. thats a big part of what lost them the election

Correct me if I am wrong, but I feel like Kamala didn't have much base of actual supporters of her to begin with. Yes, there are pently of people who voted for her because she is a Democrat, but I just feel like there not are many people voting for her because she is Kamala Harris. She came out as a progressive with the Wallz pick. But after that has not done a single progressive thing, focusing on center right policies. So all her initial momentum died down instantly leaving her with no base of support.

Why did minorities vote for Trump? Because they are more likely to live in low socio-economic areas and are most impacted by increases in the cost of living. They live in the US, have citizenship (as evidenced by the fact they have a vote), and don't really care if people in the countries they came from can now join them. They care about lowering their household costs and being able to heat their homes.
As for the "economy is doing well", like the UK, this hides the fact that the gap between those that have and those that have not has grown. People at the lower end are suffering more. Having people in the Democrats tell them "all is good", is BS to them.

This is copied and pasted from Banco de España.
Let us consider how deflation works: if you expect the price of a product - such as a car or a television - to decrease, you will delay the purchase until the price falls. If the belief that prices are going to fall persists over time and all consumers postpone their purchase decisions, companies will have to cut their prices due to the lack of sales. In addition, lower prices mean lower profits, which will force companies to reduce costs. They will therefore tend to lower employee wages or even lay off staff, thus driving up unemployment.
Unlike inflation, deflation makes it harder to repay debts because it increases the real debt burden (i.e. the value of debt in terms of the consumption basket). This could result in households and firms being unable to meet their payment obligations.

All of those gains are going to companies and the top 1%. The living standard in America has declined for the average citizen. Some people have found it too expensive to even live. The main issue was 3 fold.
    1. Kamala wasn’t chosen by the Democratic primary she was chosen by the delegates. This kept the standard primary process from filtering out weaker more unpopular candidates. It was bad enough that Biden cruised through it with no effective resistance. If someone had run the cognitive issues he had would’ve been seen earlier and dealt with.
    2. She only had 100 days to campaign as a presidential candidate, while reforming Biden’s campaign, while starting the process of VP selection, while trying to match Trump. Doing to much at the same time caused deficiencies within her campaign that hurt her.
    3. She had already been actively campaigning with President Biden as his VP, tying her own personal opinions to his agenda. So when he dropped out she was unable to distance herself from those unpopular policies with the Democratic voters at large, and had to play as a younger female Joe Biden of color which didn’t help her much considering his unpopularity.
While Trump did increase minority support and secured the popular vote it’s important to note that the lack of Democratic Turnout is what lost the election. Overall Trump had nearly as many votes in 2020 as he did in 2024, had Democratic turnout been similar to in 2020 this election this would’ve gone differently. The democrats must ask themselves why turnout was so low for their side and react accordingly

Hi as an American I think you missed a few key points. One important point that no one is talking about is the constant attack on gun rights by Democrats. Foreigners oftentimes do not understand how important the gun owners vote is considering that nearly half of Americans are gun owners. Gun ownership is different in Europe than in America. It is considered a privilege in most countries but a human right in the USA. It is part of our constitution and many Americans feel that it is the core foundation of our country. Many feel that without it we have no constitution. The democrats struggled in this and many made very anti gun statements and many Democratic states passed anti gun laws. If you look at the last few weeks Kamala and Walz were trying to act pro gun. Kamala bragged about owning a handgun and Walz went on a failed hunting trip. He did not even know how to load his shotgun. Many Americans saw this as a desperate attempt to suck up to gun owners and they didn't believe them. Kamala even proposed an ordinance in San Francisco to ban all handguns. When she was confronted on this she claimed she did not. Voters didn't believe her. If you look on TH-cam alone you can find thousands of videos talking about her attacks on gun rights. Gun channels mobilized millions of voters and they voted against her. Many gun owners are liberal on other issues. Me for example I have no issue with gay marriage. I believe everyone should be able to marry who they want but I will never support gun control so I can't support someone like her.
Another factor you didn't talk enough about was illegal immigration. The United States has over 20 million illegal immigrants and 8 million crossed alone in the last 3 years. When Kamala and Walz were confronted on it they acted like it wasn't a big deal. The United States is the most generous country in the world to immigrants. We take 1 million legal immigrants a year and most Americans are related to immigrants in the last 100 years. However just because we are pro legal immigration does not make us pro illegal immigration. Americans really do not like illegal immigration. My parents for example are legal immigrants that left communist Eastern Europe. They feel very offended when Democrats compare them to illegal immigrants. My parents worked hard and did everything through the proper process. Its not fair to them to be compared to someone who broke into the country. Additionally democrats have created policies in cities called "Sanctuary Cities" making it very difficult for federal immigration officials to find and detain illegal immigrants. No country in the world would be happy with millions of illegal immigrants. Instead of trying to understand why voters were angry Democrats accused them of bigotry. Its not bigotry to want a secure strong border and deport illegal immigrants. You even said that having a strong border is a right wing point. Well it shouldn't be. Everyone right and left should support strong border controls. When Democrats were pressed on the issue they just constantly say "We want comprehensive immigration reform" without explaining what it is. To voters that sounds like open borders. Democrats talked about how they do the jobs Americans won't do but don't talk about the billions in economic loss by having millions of illegal immigrants in the country. Voters got tired of being called bigots and voted against it. Insulting and accusing voters of bigotry didn't work out. These jobs could be filled by Americans if these companies paid fair wages but instead they pay illegally under the books. Illegal immigration helps these greedy corporations the left complains about .
As for endorsements Democrats got rich actors and musicians to endorse them. They also got warmongers like Dick Cheney and John Kelly to endorse them. These people lied to us about the Iraq war and Democrats act like they are great honorable people. They may be Republicans but they hate Trump because he won't intervene in other nations. Trump went for the key endorsements. He got RFK Jr. RFK tried to reach out to Kamala but she refused to meet him and called him a conspiracy theorist. He had millions of supporters and he went to Trump. Trump sat down with him and discussed topics with him and promised him a position. When he endorsed Trump he got millions of RFK left leaning voters who felt abandoned by Democrats. Trump got Elon and his help with X. He got Doctor Phil to say he isn't a bully. He got Joe Rogan the most popular radio host in America who has millions of left and right wing viewers to endorse him. He also got Tulsi Gabord a democrat who was forced out of her own party for not supporting the constant world police. Who did Kamala get? Rich actors and warmongers. Its clear Trump's endorsements were people that were respected while Kamala's endorsements were seen as entitled celebrities.
Lastly when you talk about the economy theres a difference between what economists say and what voters are feeling. Biden and Kamala bragged about the stock market but most Americans could care less. The stock market isn't a model of the economy. Its how people feel about the economy. The working class voter in swing states isn't going to care about the stock market. They are going to care about their wages and if they can put food on the table. They are going to see high grocery prices and gas prices and say "What are they talking about?". Basically the democrats were out of touch with working class voters. Trump was made fun of by Democrats by working at McDonalds and as a garbage man but it was a genius move. He appealed to working class voters but the Democrats were so blinded by their hatred of Trump they made fun of him and didn't realize it was hurting them. You need to also mention the fact that Trump did not get us involved in any wars and nothing started under his administration. Biden lost Afghanistan and had left behind thousands of armored vehicles and guns for the Taliban. Then he tried to blame Trump saying it was his plan. Even if it was Trump's plan he followed it. He acted like it was a success when 13 Americans died in the withdrawal. That alone lost him the Veteran Vote.
Additionally I have seen several comments of Europeans accusing Americans of being selfish for only caring about their own country. We Americans do not understand this logic. Our first priority is our own country. We have no responsibility to play world police and we are sick of it. If you had your tax dollars constantly involved in other country's affairs you would be sick of it as well. Trump had massive support from Americans when he confronted many European nations on not paying 2% of their GDP to NATO. Americans pay 3.5% to cover countries that do not pay. It is not fair to the American tax payer that rich nations like Germany and France cannot contribute more. Americans saw billions of our dollars being sent to other countries when our own people are struggling. When Maui island in Hawaii was burned down the Democrats tried to blame it on climate change. Then it later came out that it was because of an electrical company. People lost their homes, businesses and livelihoods. What did they get ? $700 and Biden fell asleep when he got there and talked about how it reminded him of his kitchen fire. Then years later when Florida, Georgia, South and North Carolina were devastated by hurricanes. What did the Americans get who lost their homes? $700 again. Then when they see billions being sent to other countries they get angry. Americans main concern is not wars in other countries. My heart goes out to those people but our priority should always be our own nation first. Other countries do not pay to protect our borders and many Americans do not want to pay to protect theirs. The factory worker in Michigan or the coal miner in Pennsylvania isn't going to care about woke policies. They care about their wallet and their country and Democrats failed to see this
Here are the points on what Democrats need to change
    1. Stop constantly attacking gun rights. This turns off millions of liberal gun owners when they feel they are being labeled as bad people and criminals
    2. Stop defending illegal immigration. Start supporting deportation for these people. Stop comparing legal immigrants to illegal immigrants. Its insulting. Stop giving illegal immigrants free hotels and debit cards. They are here illegally and they should be told to wait and come through the proper process. If Democrats don't many Americans feel as though they want to replace them with illegal immigrants and do not feel their needs are being taken into account
    3. Reach out to rural communities more. Understand that what people want in cities isn't always what rural voters want. Get away from these entitled celebrities.
    4. Stop intervening in other countries. Americans are tired of world police. We just want to focus on our own country. When you send billions to other countries when your own people are struggling they think you don't care about them.
    5. Stop pushing so much woke ideology and calling anyone who doesn't agree with open borders a bigot. Personal attacks always backfire.
    6. Also stop attacking Trump on his class. It doesn't matter to voters if Trump is a billionaire. They see rich celebrities and most billionaires supporting Kamala.
Follow these steps and Democrats will get back millions of voters but I doubt they will even follow two of these steps.

I feel like this strategy is just going to alienate more Democrats as a result it’s going to make the Democrats lose even harder next time… These things you’re saying, first of all aren’t even true and is not a realistic strategy because it’s just going to make the Democratic base vote lesser and as a result, they’re going to lose….
Secondly, no one is attacking gun right…. They have been pretty lenient on gun restriction and I feel like you’re just using this losing opportunity to attack Democrats instead of offering a realistic view about what’s actually going on…
Economy is one of the most important issues that voters are looking at and you fail to address such questions…. Overall, the reason why the Democratic part you lost is because of their poor messaging and Harris dropped in 100 days before the election… You just can’t possibly win or persuade voters in under 100 days unlike Trump has been in the race for the full campaign term…
Overall, these points are just laughable because why is the Democrats going to alienate their own voting base? Just like how Republicans don’t shift their values because they lost… Gun owners, isn’t everything in America and by the grace of god, I am a American too but if you’re going to convince voters on what they’re voting for then Harris did a pretty bad job at that… it wasn’t because of her policies because half of her policies were popular with the voters but it wasn’t clear enough or persuasive enough to persuade voters…
Democrats never failed to see the economy was a top issue Like I don’t think you have seen those ads where the Democrats literally promised to cut taxes for the middle class and build more housing….. Overall your pointers are just nonchalant… Not even accurate and it’s just going to alienate their own voting base and if that’s anything better than that’s crazy…
Plus the Democrats has been very tough on the border probably one of the toughest in history of the party…. The Republicans also made personal attack ads so I fail to see the point of this argument…

He had supporters at his rallies walking for hours because he failed to organise them buses. He received cease and desist letters from all the artists whose music he used without permission. During the campaign he had a huge open court case about stealing the election. He made so many gaffes calling people names and making ridiculous and dangerous statements it's amazing. His own campaign manager said he would quit at the end of the campaign. But several things; Americans are not media literate. If a guy is a celebrity then what he says must be true and he couldn't do anything wrong about 33 million Americans could be shown footage of Trump shooting someone and they'd still say he's a great guy. Secondly, one thing Trump does well.is five word slogans. Doesn't matter if they are untrue or contain vile messages, five word slogans stick. The Democrats are not good at these slogans. It is not a surprise they do best with college educated voters. Thirdly, many Americans will not vote for a woman. They won't say it but it is true. Fourth; they try to please everyone. Instead of changing their position on things because they get criticism for it, they need to double down and make a case for their position. Fifth; people forgot how bad it was under Trump. 1) There was no primary election when Biden stepped down. We did not choose her as our nominee to go against Trump. She was just installed, and we were supposed to just accept that and not ask any questions.
    2) As VP, Kamela was supposed to be in charge of the border. We currently have Venezuelan gangs terrorizing the streets of NY as well as entire apartment complexes in Colorado. In 2021, when asked if she has even gone down to the border yet, she said she hadn't and tried to inappropriately conflate it with never having gone to Europe neither.
    3) She doesn't know what she stands for and is flip-floppy on progressive policies. During the 2020 primaries, when asked if she would give up her insurance for a Medicare-for-all program, she said said yes. When pressed on it at a later point, she said wouldn't. She says what she thinks people want to hear when it's convenient to her.

Since 2024 three judges of the supreme court has been replaced with Trump appointees, that and you now have more Trump supports, plus more Republicans in general in Congress. In 2016 several of Trump's Executive Appointees held back on his more radical ideas. That, and there were pushback from Civil Servants Trump didn't appoint and couldn't remove. This time Trump has plans for how to get rid of the immunity civil servants currently have. In addition Trump has more support from conservative organizations like the Heritage Foundation, who are behind Project 2025, an outline for an authoritarian takeover of the US state apparatus. Vox recently published a video where they go into more depth than I have.

As a Gen-Z first time voter from Pennsylvania let me tell you the real ground feelings of people my age.
Most of us young people who have recently moved out and are in college or early careers are struggling. We are unable to eat healthy because almost everything is expenses. Eggs are $6. Used cars that have 100,000 miles on them are still going for absurd prices like $10-12K. Most of us are unable to afford things like that.
For early career folks, they are unable to save because of rent prices having doubled in the past four years. With high mortgage rates and high prices of new homes, many of us wonder if we will ever be able to afford a house. We are working hard but are not seeing the results thanks to the high cost of living.
We just did not like Kamala Harris and believed that she would not have won the nomination had there been an open primary. Her policies were also not openly known and she made little effort to do a broad outreach to express her views and how she would govern differently from Biden. Trump on the other hand was showing up on podcasts plus he had the advantage of having previously served. Most Americans would rather go for someone whose policies are known even if they disagree with that person rather than someone who has flip-flopped on issues their entire career.
Trump won the social media game. His messaging worked and edits of him being portrayed as the epitome of the American dream resonated with young voters who believed that the American dream is no longer accessible to them. Seeing Trump’s edits of him with successful business leaders, sports cars, luxury penthouses sold a story and made people believe that under Trump they can progress economically.
While many Americans disagree with Trump’s rhetoric and his anti-abortion stance, it has to be noted that his rhetoric and abortion stance does not directly affect a whole lot of Americans. Yes the abortion part affects women, but that isn’t broadly visible and should not have served as the only campaign issue for Harris. Most Americans can feel their wallets hurt every time they step out of the house to buy stuff and Trump was able to capitalize on that.
Finally, the constant portrayal of Trump as a threat to democracy just grew old because we have been hearing the same argument for nine years now. The democrats ran a weak candidate who did not even go through a primary, did not do enough interviews to differentiate herself from an unpopular President, and had the same boring messaging of negativity against Trump. Trump instead offered hope for economic opportunities and recovery which again resonated with most Americans who are struggling.

I am so grateful that I'm not American now that I have read this point of view. Literally everything you wrote feels like it comes from an alternate dimension.
Re-elect a president who oversaw the largest concentration of wealth to the rich at the expense of the poor and who is campaigning on tariffs over a candidate who was going to make price gouging illegal and increase minimum wage.
He is supported by every oligarch in the USA, from Bezos to Musk, who do all they can to make workers' conitions worse.
You also dismiss the idea he is a threat to democracy? He literally staged a coup four years ago!
I note how dismissive you are of abortion by saying it doesn't affect "most Americans." What a selfish way to refer to half of your population.
You will have a weird dementia patient as president now who campaigned on the biggest identity politics matter of all: deporting all immigrants. You can't get more divisive than that.
Trump is horrible. His voters voted for who reflects them.

@@HyperScorpio8688 inflation being down does not mean prices are down. This is part of the disconnect where pretty much everyone talks about the former, when real people only understand and care about the latter.
Inflation being down just means the prices won't spike to even more unmanageable levels. That it won't get any worse. But the only way to make things better, to make things affordable for people again, is to tackle things from the other direction in terms of wages. But that's such minefield of a conversation, compared to the seemingly simpler "inflation". Even when its being totally misused.
But yea, the Harris campaign didn't really do a good job of fronting policies for making things more affordable. Tax credits sure. Vaguely pointing at fighting anti-competitive behaviour jacking up prices sure. Ban on price-gouging somehow. But it never really coalesced in to something concrete people could really latch on to. Granted, its a more difficult task than just pointing to how you're doing on inflation. But it was pretty bad, even accounting for that.

As a left leaning person, I recognize Kamala and her campaign sort of broke one of the golden rules of democratic politics which is to appeal to the largest number of people while also not alienating your base.
