  • In February of 2023 we took one of the most memorable trips of our lives. We rode the Via Rail Canadian across Canada in the snow. This trip led to a lot of friendships, and connections that I will value forever. This video covers the trip from Toronto to Vancouver. Sit back and enjoy a trip across Canada. (Reupladed after checking audio levels. They are a little low but "ok" overall) Sorry for the double upload)

    We took The Canadian in the summer of 2023 to Vancouver and back to Toronto with a 4 day stop in Jasper and a few days stop in Bella Coola, while on Vancouver Island. Our train had 21 cars with the Park Car being the last car. We did this trip in 2005 as well, that's why we had to do it again in 2023. I see you have 3 F40PH-2's on the head end. Thanks for explaining why.

    I’m scheduled to take the Canadian in May!
    I can’t wait, I’m flying in from Minnesota to Toronto. Taking the cord or train round-trip up to Montreal for a couple of days then coming back to Toronto for a weekend. Hopping on the to ride it all the way from Toronto to Vancouver.
    I’m bringing in my parents on the Amtrak train from America. They will be meeting me in Toronto a few days before we depart.
    This train has been on my bucket list for a long time. Great.

    Nice. I really wish that they used the real Canadian line instead of the Super Continental line.

    For the skyline car that caught fire, what happened to that car?

    Is Scrabble on the train or did someone bring it?

    It would be interesting to know how economy class passengers would've been accommodated on this trip without a skyline car as It also serves as their cafe/lounge car. They don't typically have access to non-economy sections of the train... including the dining car.

      They were provided a business class car as a substitute. From what I saw some decided to sleep in the business class car due to the better recline on the seats. It was not a good substitute, we only checked it out one time.

      @@MichiganCentralLines Having taken long haul VIA Rail at different times in both Sleeper and Economy, I have first hand knowledge of how badly VIA treats it's economy passengers on the Canadian... but realize they couldn't get away with not providing basic food services for 4 days so I suspected that must have been the case.

    • @MichiganCentralLines

      @@TheJhn924 I do not believe they treat the passengers "poorly" as generally they have access to a skyline car including a cafe. This trip, the cafe was in the business class car which had the same offerings. I have taken the Canadian in both classes multiple times and have never had an issue with the way I was treated as a passenger. It is up to the consumer to choose what level of service they wish to pay for on this train, and I personally would never choose go more than one overnight in economy class on any long distance train. The onboard staff for VIA rail has always been top notch in my experience, and I have ridden tens of thousands of miles on their various long distance routes.

      @@MichiganCentralLines Perhaps it comes down to individual crew members which can certainly make a huge difference. My Economy Class trip on the Canadian was from Winnipeg to Vancouver shortly before Covid and the consensus among my fellow travelers was that we were being treated like children... including being told we'd be limited to a maximum of 2 beer purchases a day with at least one full hour between each... something as a responsible adult I found condescending. Nothing like the experience I had when I traveled sleeper class.

    Would a carry on bag fit in a room for 2 comfortably?

    no safety hat in the shop for VIA . in CN shop every men have a safety hats , for via security is not a priority , WOW

    • @MichiganCentralLines
      @MichiganCentralLines  หลายเดือนก่อน

      There was no point in this video where a safety hat would have been required, nor were any shops visited. Safety is highly important to Via Rail as is security.
