    This was really a treat to watch. I love passenger trains of the 60's, they're so much more eclectic and interesting than the "picture perfect" streamliners of the 40's and early 50's. Your weathering is on point and the open space on your layout really gives them room to shine. I'm slowly collecting equipment to model the Rock Island's Cherokee as it appeared in Oklahoma in the mid-60's. It was probably very similar to the Zephyr Rocket - mostly head end cars with a couple coaches at the very end.

      Hi Alex - Thank you very much for watching and for your nice comment ...... I appreciate it! Good luck with putting together the Cherokee ....... should be a neat 60's era passenger train. Mike

    Mike: Wonderful work! Despite the fact these trains were running on borrowed time, they still had a mystique, a presence, that made them noble and interesting.

      Hi Drake - Thanks so much for your comments. I agree that these trains were special in their own way. I have such cherished memories of Rock Island trains #17 and #18 that both passed through Nevada, Iowa, in the afternoon. I can still feel the ground shake as they blew past the station. Mike

    An amazing layout and what I see are the details that make a good layout great! Broad curves laid with real transitions and a hint of super elevation! Jointed rail and super smooth track with just the right details along the perway. Not to mention the beautiful passenger trains! Looks like I have some videos to watch..LOL
    Cheers Gregg.

    Hi Mike, Thanks for posting another excellent video. I enjoyed seeing the different passenger trains operate on your layout and learning a little history about each one. I really liked the weathering on the two Rock Island Plainsman locomotives, they have that dusty look from running hard. It is too bad all those great passenger trains have been put out of service, but fortunately we can still see them operating on your layout. -Tom

    • @rimodeler7963
      @rimodeler7963  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Tom. When I first weathered the Rock Island E-Units I thought I may have slightly overdone the road dust on the sides, but I've gotten used to it. Besides, the Rock Island RARELY had a locomotive that was even halfway clean. I appreciate you watching! Mike

    My only real memory of pre-Amtrak passenger service is of picking up my uncle in Perry off a Milwaukee train from Denver for Christmas 1970... I remember it was late and sitting in the waiting room for what seemed FOREVER to a 5 year old kid!
    I do remember seeing that yellow train, but I'm pretty sure the lead unit was in the more familiar orange & black that they used all thru the 70's.

    You have some beautifully done passenger trains and can tell you put a lot of time and effort into making them look great. On your final car, you should consider installing tailgates on the back of your passenger car. Cal Scale makes both brass and plastic and really do compliment them.

    • @rimodeler7963
      @rimodeler7963  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching and for your good suggestion regarding the tailgates. I'll probably order some. Mike

    For the Milwaukee Road, it was a cost-saving to paint the passenger equipment into Union Pacific colors, the paint lasted much longer.

    • @Greatdome99
      @Greatdome99 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      By painting everything UP Armour Yellow, the MILW had more flexibility to use its cars on its other psgr trains. I doubt there's any evidence that "(UP) paint lasted longer"--it was just simpler to apply.

    • @thomasboese3793
      @thomasboese3793 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Greatdome99 I fully understand what you're saying. Please understand that I was told that information by the head of the paint department when I was working in the back shop summer of 1977.

    WOW! What a way to start another quarantined week up here in the Seattle area! I love the variety of viewing angles used in the video. My favorite is the shots taken from the rear of the Milwaukee's Twin City Hiawatha. They remind me of when I was a kid sitting in the dome car of the UP's City of Portland as it traversed Sherman Hill in the late 50's- early 60's. I filmed one trip with our family's old Kodak 8mm home movie camera. I loved it when the train went around a curve and I could see the diesels up ahead (especially the rear facing E unit looking back into the camera) just like in your video.
    Just one comment on the video production: Is there a "fade" or other feature in the processing program so the trains do not "freeze" between scenes?

    • @rimodeler7963
      @rimodeler7963  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Bill - I'm using some new video editing software and am using the "fade" transition feature; however, I will try some of the other transitions offered as they may better mask the "freeze" between scenes. Thank you for your comments and for watching. Mike
