  • Airport lounges are great when you get them for free, but sometimes you need to pay to get in. Here are our five best reasons to pay for an airport business lounge. And whether it is for the free food in the airport lounge, the access to faster wifi, a place to sleep, or just to get away from the hordes of other travelers, airport lounges are pretty worthwhile.

    2. When there could be weather delays (when you might have to wait for 10h+)
    3. If you are sick, hurt, or wiped out

This is great advice. Lounges are just generally uncrowded and more relaxed. I like to wash my face and redo my hair (OMG your wife cut her hair, I love the bob, it looks great on her!) and makeup in the ladies' room. You can also just put in some earplugs and catch a nap on the couches. I think it's worth the cost to recharge your batteries - literally and figuratively - especially after/before a long flight.

Cheers for all these great tips, Wolter :) I agree, the airport lounge can be more relaxing a respite, especially if unwell or on long-haul flights.
2 years ago, I'd succumbed to food poisoning amidst yoga teacher training in Bangalore. Upon reaching the airport, I was in shambles. Staff soothed to no end, with medicines and a warm seat within the lounge at no charge.
~ Buffet was a dream, and I slept like a baby in business class by sublime grace of God.
It turned a setback positive and I'm so thankful for the experience. To discover the world a little wiser; stronger and healthier this time. ♡
    Peace and love. Xx

@2:47 Mark and I do the same thing...cappuccino, Minute Maid Limeade and a glass of red wine. 😂 Sometimes you're not really feeling it so, get one of each! An issue about airport lounges - everyone and their cousin has access these days. The last couple of times at the KLM lounge in Schiphol it was so bustling I actually left to stroll the airport just to get *_away_* from the crowd...but of course I returned for the complimentary hooch and grub. My favorite lounge is Delta at JFK mainly because after a flight from Europe, it's refreshing to take a shower knowing I have another leg or two. The JFK shower facilities are top notch. 👍 Another excellent video, Mark.

Important note: Not all airport lounges are created equal. I have an annual lounge pass with United, and while on a recent trip using Airport lounge in Europe, all alcohol was free. At Houston TX USA airport lounge, I had to pay for alcoholic drinks unless I would agree to drink swill water, (Bud, Bud light) which I refuse to do. Some lounges are cleaner and larger than others, some offer a full buffet of hot food and some just cold finger sandwiches and cold salads. Don't expect a perfect quiet free booze sanctuary every time. (FYI: United Polaris class lounge is awesome and what First class lounges all used to be.)

We always use the Virgin Holidays V-Room at Gatwick. It was better when it was in the South Terminal when there was an excellent view of the runway, now not so good in the North Terminal due to restricted views, but the food and comfort is well worth the cost, and quiet rest rooms are so much better than the noisy ones in the general airport.

In Prague I had to check in again as Beirut could not give me a boarding pass for the flight to Canada (Beirut, Frankfurt, Prague, Toronto) so... I could not check in until morning! Perfect! Just a couple of days ago I was researching the lounges at Vancouver international terminal for possible use next May. We will have an almost midnight flight out so we'll be at the airport for several hours. Can anyone comment on the lounge/s there?

Good info. As much as y'all travel, why not get one of those credit cards that provide access as a perk in many places. I think one is called Visa Black. They do have a fee of something $450/year, I bet that would pay for itself quickly for you.

As much as you travel, you absolutely should have a premium credit card that includes lounge access. The best one is AMEX Platinum which gives you priority pass access, Delta lounges, and AMEX Centurion lounges which are the best domestic lounges by far. You cannot buy day passes for these, you must have the card to get in. The card does have a high annual fee, but if you use all the benefits of the card, you will get more value than the fee. Some of the other benefits include free Global Entry/TSA pre, $120 annual Uber credit, $100 Saks Fifth Avenue credit, $200 Airline incidental credit, Gold status with Hilton and Marriott (this perk gives you benefits like room upgrades, hotel lounge access, early check in/late check out), and rental car status with Hertz and National (priority line so you don’t have to wait, free upgrades). I travel 6 to 8 times a year for leisure and these benefits have been amazing.

Amex is not always accepted in Europe, though. Diners Card is even worse. If credit cards are accepted, it's virtually a duopoly of Visa and MasterCard. That, and debit cards, although problems with foreign cards aren't unheard of. I worked at the entrance for a festival, last weekend in Belgium, couldn't process any credit cards, and neither Dutch nor French cards. We did take contactless...

Tip for someone who does't like the crowds, go to the area close to the under constructiont part of the airport. Generally you can find a quiet spot without all the people.

Hi, just stumbled upon your videos with helpful travel tips. Do you know if Athens airport has lounges, place to sleep/shower? We have more than 8 hours layover for international flight. We arrive in Athens at 10pm and our next flight is 7am. We have young children and it would be very tough not to get any sleep. Any advice you have for us would be very appreciated. Thank you

I recently bought a Priority Pass card and used a lounge for the very first time last weekend when I was going to Gdansk, Poland from London Luton airport, I had to pay £21 for that which was fine by me. The weird thing is when I then used a lounge at Gdansk airport I wasn't charged a penny, I thought they'd made a mistake and would come to me later asking for a fee but that never happened, so I spent almost three hours in that lounge eating and drinking for free :)

The lounges are intended for business travelers who fly several times a month. The regular lounge users do not appreciate all of the people who take children in there, the lounge is supposed to be a quiet haven for people who travel often and want a relaxing place to use the Internet, freshen up, and relax between flights while enjoying a snack and a drink. Some lounge operators are restricting the number of guests that a lounge member can bring with them.

It’s not that deep. If they pay for the kids to be in the lounge then they have every right to be there.

I have watched a few videos now that talk about Airport Lounges. Most say that the lounge has free food and free drinks, etc. I really don't understand how it is "free" when you have to pay $50-$80 or whatever it may be.

I’m 56 and never knew you could pay to use a lounge. Are these lounges dedicated to each major carrier? In other words does British Air have a separate lounge AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC than Quantis? I’m just using top of my head airline names, but I hope you get the point. Thanks much!
