This is really cool. I’ve lived in Utah on and off my whole life and never heard of either of these places. As a kid in the 70’s my grandpa took me to LOTS of historical sites, Pony Express, frontier graveyards, historic homes etc. Back then, you could go to the caves around Kanab and scrape sand off the walls (My guess is that it was illegal back then also, but I was probably eight or nine so I didn’t know any better) and collect many different colors which we would then layer in clear Coke bottles as a decoration. Grandpa had a decent amount of money so quite often he would bring 9-10 grandchildren on these adventures and we would stay in the same “hotels” (I use the term generously) that Hollywood stars like Gary Cooper and John Wayne used while making westerns in the 50’s and 60’s. Thanks for the video, I am definitely going to make a trip down to visit these places now!
Wow, those cleaned up so nice! I havent been to that spot because I figured it has been so picked over but you got great pieces. Those nodules you cut are rad 3:33 whaaat. Im going.
A friend of mine hunted minerals close by these uranium mines on a private ranch. He brought me 6 specimens of crystal aragonite geodes. After some detailed study and cleaning, these specimens turned out to be the hand bones of a meat-eating raptor dinosaur. The crystals formed inside these hand bones over 130 million years ago.
Great vid, thanks for sharing! We we out there a couple weekends ago, absolutely love that area. I've been tumbling that material, but I definitely need to get a cab machine, those are looking so good!
I believe the ones found at the 2:05 and 5:20 mark in the video are limb casts, but I'm not 100% sure. I have found some in the past out there. The majority of what I found this trip were the agate after barite pseudomorphs.
The piece at 5:20 might be a wood pseudomorph?? We have found a lot of these and have always wondered if they are wood. The sides are definitely different than the agate after barite pseudomorphs.
We are camped at Thompson Springs to hit Sego Canyon. Looks like we will be hitting Yellow Cat Road too. Thank you!

Thanks! Yeah it is such a fun area! One of my favorites for sure!
Wow such beautiful agates,I would love to go there someday, thanks for sharing
Pretty cool video! Love the rock art, and those agates are pretty cool, what type of formations do they come out of volcanic or sedimentary?
It really is a cool area! I believe they come from sedimentary deposits.
@utah_rockhound ok cool, I wasn't to sure if that brown glossy matrix material was chert or some silicified rhyolite.
!(: Cool, THANKS ;)!
are any of the agates you found limbcasts?
