Do ignore the Chinese nationalist (or wumao) above, he’s entitled to his own opinion but doesn’t represent the majority of HK people. You are definitely welcome to HK whenever this virus dies down, though I would advise you to stay vigilant; a gang of 40 people just beat up 4 citizens that were posting posters regarding the movement. And guess what, instead of arresting the assaulters, the hkpd arrested the 4 victims under illegal assembly, absolutely ridiculous.

I stumbled across this video and it's interesting to see the perspective of a tourist as I am from and lived in Hong Kong for my entire life. In all honesty, most of the places you mentioned are places I have never even stepped foot in, especially the ChungKing mansion. It is also super cool to see HK from a couple years back, with protests that have majorly affected our lives and the coronavirus, it has taken a massive toll on Hong Kong. Us student haven't been in school since January but luckily our cases are dying down and most places have reopened. Once this pandemic is over and if you do return to HK, I recommend going to Ocean Park, its an amusement park with a mixture of sea life, animals and also fun and thrilling rides. Also, the street food in Causeway Bay and Mongkok are iconic and delicious and for sure a must-try. Anyways, hope you guys are safe and healthy and thank you for this beautifully made video!

hong kong is very strange - the new, old and the natural blend into one because they have too many mountainous terrains that can't be built on, and the old includes old buidings from the far past till today. the new is just as uncertain. but that's the beauty of hong kong. it's beautiful in its own bizarre way. going once lets you see the city from the tourist view. but going twice or more allows you to see even more than just a tourist view. you get to see it from the perspective of a citizen. it is so weird to see the new world blend with the traditional, but hong kong prides itself on that.

It reflects the “low-end” side of globalisation, where people from developing countries gather and sell goods and services. They actually have some pretty authentic Indian/ African restaurants that’s really good!
I’m glad you enjoyed your time here, but you missed out on the food! The culinary scene here is amazing!! We actually have lots of local deli (chachanting) that sells local food like pineapple bun at a really affordable price.

Oh Hong Kong! I miss it so much from when I visited last summer (I suppose it’s changed a lot since then!) I managed to see a wild boar in the forest whilst climbing Victoria Peak so maybe all that staring at the ground did you good! I’m actually doing a presentation on real estate in HK today for Geography XD great video as always!

OMG, I laughed aloud when you described the Chunking “hotel” experience. I’m sure it wasn’t so funny while there. What an experience, overall. Sad you could not get money back from originally purchased air and hotel prior to Hong Kong.

I stayed 3 nights at Chungking mansions about 18 years ago and my room was about 1/3 of te size of yours (but i was traveling by myself) I wanted to stay there because of the movie: “ Chungking express“ (a must see in my opinion). and: Tay pan by James Clavell is a nice novel to read about the origins of Hongkong.

Chungking mansion is famous in Hong Kong for being less safe and secured, but it's a real budget to stay there I guess.
Hong Kong may not be the nicest place to live (due to its high living fees)
but its skyscrapers view and diverse culture is absolutely amazing.

People in Chungking Mansion are quite friendly, tbh. You can get spices, grains and curries at a VERY reasonable price in the south asian supermarket; good quality perfumes and incense; genuine parallel import goods and more. They even have some of the best curries and vegetarian restaurants. There are also guided tours to the Mansion held by locals who actually live or work there, quite fun.
