  • Tutti Frutti was first made by Cartier during the Art Deco Period and has been in continuous production ever since. It is a fascinating style that fuses art deco with the traditional gem carving styles of India. Cartier Jewelry is some of the finest jewelry made and whether you are looking for vintage Cartier or current pieces, tutti frutti is a style to consider.

    Several years ago, the Denver Art Museum featured a massive exhibit on Cartier, and several Tutti Fruitti vintage pieces were featured. This particular collection was really quite amazing to see in person.

    Interesting. I'd never heard of this or fruit salad until your video with Donnie. I like that Cartier has the monopoly on the term Tutti Fruitti when referencing jewelry. Does that mean Tutti Fruitti is the champagne of jewelry?

    • @JillMaurer
      @JillMaurer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha! I guess it does!! This is really for the true collector. I love it and realize that it isn't for everyone. There is something about the fusion between French deco and classic India coming together that just works so well. xoxo

    Great job and I loved the pieces you choose to use as examples I'd love to have just one of those in my collection
    PS I do have a question I remember another jewelry expert telling a story of how she had an emerald piece remounted but when they went to remove the stone it was not as vibrant and the inside of the old setting had been altered to make the stone more green is this common? I ask because I have a pair of emerald earrings I'd like to have remounted some day and fear this happening to me.

    • @JillMaurer

      Thanks Randall! One thing is if you are switching out emeralds you should think about have them heat treated again. They are usually warmed in cedar oil, and this oil leaches out over the years so it is good to have it redone. The setting may have been foiled on the back or have a closed back which would make them appear darker. (Stones often look darker when set btw.) You could always repeat whatever they did in the new setting if need be. I'd love to hear how they turn out! xoxo

    Thank you and now I can go back and watch the video that you mentioned tutti-frutti in again. I stopped watching to check some of my pieces to see if I owned any originals not just machine made jewelry. Because yes I have that basic pair of diamond studs. But I also have my locket collection and that has all the stamps from Birmingham England etc. is that considered machine made as well ? sometimes the person that etched the bird on the locket will have their initials stamped as well as all the stamps of origin,date or company that sold the locket. I think the lockets were mass produced but then the face of the locket would have a blank space where an artist would create a picture or a very fancy initials

    • @JillMaurer

      Diamond studs always work. They are a great place to start a jewelry collection. I just never had them because I always found something I wanted more and felt like I had to get then because they were unique. I just never got around to getting the diamond studs. It's like me to doe things backwards! xoxo

    Ah! So that’s what the carved “resin” pieces are called. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the real precious gem version.

    • @JillMaurer
      @JillMaurer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had no idea they were calling carved resin pieces that. My understanding is that Cartier does have the copyright on this style which probably covers all of jewelry. xoxo

    Does your company offer Tuffi Fruitti jewelry?

    • @JillMaurer
      @JillMaurer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it is just a Cartier thing. They created the concept and have a copyright on the name. Thank you for asking though! xoxo
