I’ve been to Headwaters a few times. Definitely a different world down there. A jack-plate and power poles are a necessity and my boat has neither. It will humble you quickly. Great video.
Trying to think of where your at .. What your calling head waters i believe we called the garcia marsh. Its just south of the stick marsh and east of blue cypress lake. It was designed to be a water run off marsh system . Beautiful area. If this is where you were , you are hitting fence posts and cypress stumps that used to be a huge race horse training facility and lodging for the off season. I fished it back before you could launch a boat. Gated off!! Caught some gorillas in there. Now your dilemma with blocked exit!! It happened to me once up there and the only thing that saved our ass was a long heavy anchor rope and a grappling hook style anchor. We had two of us in the boat making it much easier and quicker. But you pull up to the blockage and chunk your anchor way up into the matt. Tie it off and back it up. Slowly. It will pull those matts out and then push them out of the way. Go back in and keep doing it. Youll get there. Eventually.. make sure your pushing the haul to down wind side so it doesn't block it up again. I always carried a heavy long rope and grappling hook for that reason.
Hey, Tom. Its not Garcia. headwaters opened by the name Headwaters Lake in Aug 2020. Its on on the east side of Stick Marsh and separated from SM by the levee and used to be access by kayak only on the northwest corner which is right at the Stickmarsh ramp on Fellsmere Grade Rd. I was stuck right next to that levee and if you walked north on that levee, you'd end up at the SM ramp. Headed back down in the next couple months. Hope that helps.
@@jamesbernabefishing8532 Yes , Thanks man.. i did a lot more research and found a ton. I've got to get up there and catch a few. That whole water filtering operation has created a huge biological classroom also i believe. They can learn a massive amount on how to better manage all our freshwater lakes and rivers in this state and beyond. Getting closer to finding balance between it all and applying it to create great fishing again on so many lakes that have been destroyed here.. Thanks again for the info. Oh,. Did they pave the road yet. I believe its called the fellsmere grade?? Back in the day when stick marsh ramp was graded dirt. Lol lol. The grade was so bad and dusty. You'd have to keep cover on boat and you could find trailer parts all the way down the grade. Lol lol. It was rough
Someone will be found expired at headwaters before its over. U could get stuck for days if the wind doesn't shift. Very dangerous lake. Maybe take ur anchor line and toss ur anchor up ahead of u and pull the junk out of ur way a little at a time. U should always be prepared to spend a night out there if ur going to try it. Truly the most dangerous lake I've ever fished
I was at Stick Marsh about 5 years ago and noticed the access near the SM boat ramp and pinned it for a future Kayak trip. Never happened that way tho.
U should pony up the money to take a local guide the first day, the knowledge gained , techniques, areas, are invaluable, much cheaper in long run ,vs 3 days of eating zero candy bar trophies, and much safer than stumbling around

Thanks, buddy.
Pro tip. Get some nylon braided line. A huge weighted treble hook. Toss it over/into that grass island. Tie to front of boat. And tow it out.
Thanks. That was right after it opened and have learned alot about the place since and have actually been back down there after that trip.

It’s a different kind of fishing down here that’s for sure. Great job on the video and also like how you show the REAL side of fishing.
Thanks man!
Read the signs next trip. They clearly state NO DRONES
I just put myself in "time out" without a sippie cup.
@@jamesbernabefishing8532 if the FAA sees that video and takes action your ass won’t be able to afford a cup of any kind. We can only hope they do!!!
Your so sassy. I love it!!!
wow that’s awesome video i feel like i was there 👏🏻🍻
Thanks for the kind words!

Great editing job on your video.
Thanks for the compliment and Thx for watching.
Great work !!
Thanks, man!!
Headwaters is 10,000 acres, not 13. Okeechobee is 730 sq miles, not 750. Nothing worse than inaccurate stats.
Oh my god, are you gonna be ok?
It was a super cool place when you could only kayak it
