A few years back I blew my knee out training but didn’t get it checked out until a couple months after since I had previously had a ton of LCL and MCL sprains which I nursed back and kept training throughout. With that ACL tear though I couldn’t do shit those two months. Anytime I wrestled it would buckle and shift. I had to do the surgery. I can’t imagine not having either ACLs and training/competing like Nicky does. If he gets those completely fixed and rehabbed it will make him so much better in the long term
I think he has the money for it so surgery and/or stem cells with a world class personal trainer to help him rehab. B team should have plenty of connections for both.
Nicky has been one of if not my favorite grapplers for several years now. I'd love to see him get some robot knees and ruin the world with his skill, but A) is that even possible, and B) is that what Nicky wants? Either way, I'm a ball swinger for lyfe, WAR GORDONS LITTLE BROTHER!
I'm glad Nickys back training, he's one of my favorite grapplers to watch. I really like his slick back takes and I learn a lot watching him roll. He's like an encyclopedia of jiujitsu.
I assume this is footage taken before CJI and that he isn't training now. Hopefully he just stops and gets the surgeries he needs but I have a strong suspicion he won't and will probably just retire to a permanent teacher position with B Team.
I think Nicky may be having a bit of a quarter-life crisis, given all he's been through with his career and family relations. I think this is pretty normal, but he's got some thinking to do. If he took the time to get surgeries in both knees, that's at least 2 years away from training and competing, just to recover and rehab. And, even if he does that, the risk of reinjury is high if he decides to compete again. He's still fairly young, but what's the average career lifespan of BJJ athletes? Let's say it's 32. He'd have about another 3 or 4 ADCCs to compete in after getting his knees fixed. He could do a few more CJIs. Maybe have a few super fights. After that, then what? He's already got a gym. Maybe he could do what Craig is doing and travel while doing seminars. The issue is that he's losing his most valuable asset, his youth, while he decides his future.
It’s not necessarily Nicky’s knees. He needs to get into and then stay in shape. You can’t develop elite cardio in a few months and the best guys in the world have elite cardio
If the wall is at such an angle that people can develop game for staying standing on it, doesn't that kinda defeat the intent of the pit wall and imply that the angle of the wall needs to be more obtuse?
Injuries ruin great careers. It sucks. There’s always the coaching side. His competition (Tackett) in cji was the worst possible for someone who gasses. That guy destroys people.
